Shorter, But Sweeter and Cleaner
Below, courtesy of a few News Tips, we have embedded video from IGN of their playthrough of the Wii edition of Sonic Colors.
Planet Wisp is again featured, and in terms of gameplay, much of it will be old hat to most. Even though it’s off-screen, it’s some of the cleanest video to come out of Gamescom. As an added bonus, you can hear a portion of the in-game music, which has a tinge of piano texture derivative from Sonic 3D Blast. So, if nothing else, Colors will continue the tradition of a magical soundtrack consistent with recent 3D Sonic fare.
Check out the new video below. Thanks to Edzepp and Crysore for sending this in. If you have news to share, be sure to share it with us by clicking News Tips at the top of every page.

I already like Roger Craig Smith’s voice in this game. Plus that music makes me tap my foot. Can’t wait for this game.
Don’t ask me where this is coming from, but this reminds me heavily of NiGHTS. Perhaps it’s the location (kinda looks like a combo of Stick Canyon and Splash Garden), the music (which sounds familiar but still fresh), or could it be….maybe… that the game actually feels polished??!
O my goodness… this game is actually looking… dare I say it… good… O.o
It’s looking a bit like Sonic Unleased on the 360, but with no Werehog, and that’s what I want from the 3D games! If Sonic 4 is as good as the classics then the 2D games will also be amazing!
Rrrocket!
Colors is looking to be what Adventure 2 could have been, had we the technology back then. In other words, this (in my opinion) is what a 3D Sonic game should be.
Sonic 4 is a prime example of his former glory, yet I’m glad they’re going back to the classics.
Perfect. Simply perfect.
Anyone else find it odd how Sonic 4 is being made for the fans yet a majority of its audience are more excited for Colours?
This game looks amazing. I feel that it has the sense of speed of the original Sonic games, but there is also a lot of exploration involved, which is also reminiscent to the original Sonic games. The controls also seem to be very polished. The wisps are great additions and they make for a great power up based system. The graphics are extremely colorful and the textures seem very clear. The graphics engine looks very similar to the hedgehog engine, I think that Sega modified the hedgehog engine to run on the Wii (which can be done by bringing down the resolution of the graphics), I’m thinking that this is the case because the game’s graphics look more like Sonic Unleashed for PS3 and Xbox 360 (granted that the graphics are a bit lower quality on the Wii) than Sonic Unleashed on the Wii and PS2.
I find it odd that the majority of Sonic fans are hyped for Sonic Colors, yet Sonic 4 is made for the old-skool fans. I mean, I know people will always have a different preference, but I am excited for BOTH Sonic 4 and Sonic Colors, but then again that is just me.
I personally liked the recent Sonic games (That includes Sonic 2006, so no bashing, please) and I don’t know why anyone (especially Sonic fans) would hate them so much? Is it because they played differently from the classics? The music? The voice acting? Or is it because of certain characters? I have no problem with those things because I am open-minded and SEGA can do whatever they want with Sonic since they’re the owner of the entire series (They also created Sonic, by the way, remember that). And people shouldn’t go around hating something from a video game franchise that they all know and love. If people love Sonic, they should be positive about it, and not say stuff like “Sonic 2006 sucks! Sonic Heroes is too hard! The Werehog is lame! Sonic Riders is lame! Silver’s design is weird! Shadow shouldn’t use guns!” or any crud like that. Geez. Be nice for a change.
I might be sorry, but I have grown so sick and tired of hearing the same arguments over and over.
Wow, it looks really good! It kinda feels like SA2 and SU(360, PS3) being put together.
It looks like it’s gonna be a really good game. And I like Sonics new voice.
Osnic : Same here I can’t wait to play Colors I hope they release a playable demo on the nintendo channel
Everything about this game is just incredible, the piano music really makes the level look so dreamy. The more I see this level, the more I am mesmerized by its beauty. Its just so stunning to look at. I don’t ever remember being this impressed by a Wii game before.
@Kits’Okami & Vulpine
This is what happens when Sega stops listening to us morons (read: fans or ‘fans’) and decides to just make a Sonic game that appeals to ‘all audiences’.
