The 1st Sign of Gimmicks, or the 1st Sign of Multiplayer?
The shot you see in our graphic here, and in full below, is going to get a lot of attention among fandom really soon.
It’s from Amazon’s Japanese portal promoting Sonic Colors. In it, you see a regular blue Sonic…closely followed by a reddish-pink Sonic. Both characters have an antenna device on their head, and both have their own boost gauge, lives counter, and ring counter in a previously unseen stage.
On first sight, this would indicate a confirmed two player mode, and some fans speculate it’s either a co-op or competitive race mode. That would add into the mix multiplayer talk that has to this point been dodged by Sega brass in interviews. On the other hand, with so many characters in the Sonic universe, seeing a re-colored Sonic in any official setting is very strange, to say the least. And with antennae? Can you say gimmick?

Why did SEGA have to make an identical Sonic, but is pinkish-red? Why not have Tails? He’s relatively fast in the old games.
Why is everyone arguing about something that is prob either completely removed or optional? We don’t know shit about this and some people are shitting their pants over this. No wonder the Sonic fanbase has one of the worst reputations.

Isn’t it funny how this game has actually been praised so far? Hmm, I didn’t know that when a game is praised it means it’s terrible. Take your non-sensical comments somewhere else. You call yourself a Sonic fan? I beg to differ. Sorry that you hate every Sonic game that isn’t ‘the classics’.

I love this. One of my Brawl let downs was that sonic was just different shades of blue. I hope there are more colors for him here. And the Tails Doll jewel is just my favorite thing about this game so far.
Multiplayer racing? Seriously?!
….That’s it, I’m officially sold on this game. I want it more than Sonic 4 now.

SEGA, PLEASE don’t make this an online-only feature. Make it split-screen if you have to, just let there be an option for local multiplayer racing.
I think this is more like local co op, not online because Sega did online was for only rankings.
Either Ken or Aaron from Sega needs to clear up this confusion right now because some fans either liking it or complaining about it.

We all hate people like voiceoftreason here, but for future reference, ‘Can you do better?’ is not a valid rebuttal in any argument. The argument is nearly never a matter of whether or not the other arguer can do better, but about whether or not the party in question (in this case Sega) could have produced a better outcome. His/her skills, or lack-there-of, are not in question or of any importance.

I think too many of you guys simply blurt out whatever idea or suggestion comes to your head without thinking about it too much.
1) There is definitely multiplayer activity going on in this screen. If the recolored Sonics don’t do it for you, just look at the other features in the screen shot, such as the life meters, ring counts, and boost gauges. Considering the only feature that neither Sonics share is the score meter, there’s a good chance this multiplayer mode has some co-op gameplay involved.
2) If this is a multiplayer mode, then having recolored Sonics should be 100% understandable. The reason why we don’t have other characters like Tails or Knuckles in the mix is because they wouldn’t play the same way as Sonic would, and trying to make them functional multiplayer characters for this game would most probably make game-play unbalanced in one way or in others. It just wouldn’t work.
The only thing I can’t figure out is why the Sonics would have antennas strapped to their heads, or why the screen hasn’t been split. In any case, it’s foolish to let your imagination run away with you just because you don’t understand what’s before you.
this is most likely multiplayer, now what i would LIKE to know, is if it’s regular multiplayer, or wi-fi multiplayer, seeing on how there’s no split screen, it’s most likely wi-fi, but one can dream right =D
Yeah, I hope this is co-op, and not just standard multiplayer. You can’t really tell anything from this picture so anything’s pure speculation….
