Clarifying M&S Speculation, and…Sonic Colors HD?
TSSZ News has obtained through a couple news tips the log of Wentos’s alleged return to 4chan’s video game boards.
For those unaware, we’re again talking about a member of that forum under the handle Wentos the Travelling Salesman. He claimed to work in Sega’s localization department in 2009, as he revealed the next main Sonic title would be in the style of Sonic Unleashed’s daytime stages–which fits Sonic Colors perfectly. He is a Nostradamus of sorts for many Sonic fans, and as it turns out, he had plenty more to say than what we had from memory on Friday.
“We will do you proud,” was one of his remarks near the onset of the conversation.
From there, he fielded a question about an alleged third Mario & Sonic title first reported to exist a couple weeks ago at Gamefest Madrid. The man known as Wentos didn’t just say it wouldn’t necessary be sports related…he said it’s not a sports game, period.
“Without giving anything away…this time, it’s not a sports game,” he said. “It’s turning out quite well. I think some of you may be a little surprised.”
Regarding Sonic Colors, Wentos explained its current exclusivity to the Wii and DS; a combination of cost-effectiveness and current momentum toward Sonic on the platform made it an easy call, in his words. That call was also made due to Sonic Unleashed selling better on the Wii than any other platform.
“…Wii/DS is a much more cost-effective pairing, especially for an ‘experimental’ Sonic game like this where they needed the financial and developmental freedom to craft 50+ (!) stages,” Wentos said.
We said “current excluisivity” to Wii and DS because, according to this man of mystery, Sega would consider porting Colors to HD consoles like XBOX 360 and PS3–but only if what exists sells like hotcakes.
“The technology and design plan is all set up to do the port on Sonic Team’s end,” Wentos said. “Of course, they need strong sales to justify releasing it on the other two platforms (with enhancements, more money spent, etc) in the first place, so it’s all up to you guys.”
We don’t blame you if you feel a bit skeptical in the face of all these predictions. Check out the log for yourself, and draw your own conclusions in the comments section.

Honestly, again, whether he’s right or wrong, I didn’t think the next M&S game would be Olympics-based, anyway, simply because we’ve had two already. If Sega (and Nintendo) knows what’s good for them, they’ll spread out into a different genre to rack up even more sales.
As is, the first two M&S games did excellent, but I’m sure they both know that the sales won’t keep if the game’s theme doesn’t change. Winter got away with it because the events were all new, obviously, based on the Winter Olympics instead of Summer.
You know what? Everything he’s said thus far makes sense, and almost everything – barring a few negligible differences, which certainly may have shifted over several years – he’s said has come entirely true. His words fit what we eventually saw as Sonic Colors down to the last line, and for that, he’s got my attention. I believe him.
Godspeed, Wentos.
Yeah SONIC COLORS HD!!! if it happens Ill buy day 1 SEGA day 1 you hear?!!! we XBOX 360 owners include many real Sonic fans I myself completed every Sonic game on X360 fully and you have no idea how much time I spent playing Unleashed please bring Colors to HD consoles SEGA!
Someone call Penn and Teller because I smell bullshit.
I also smell horrible horrible memes I won’t dare look at chatlog.
Nothing this random Internet poster posted was new or insightful, we knew about about a non sports Mario and Sonic last week, and vague comments regarding Colors’s on 360/PS3 have been dropped in interviews for months, hell even his reasoning behind the games exclusivity is the same thing that gets posted every few pages on the topic on Retro.
@Werefraud: He was right about the Werehog.
If Sonic Colors comes out onto the 360 then…
well fuck, I don’t know what I’ll do. I only have so few pants that I can completely mess up due to my creaming all over them.
Sonic Colors HD? …just when I thought it couldn’t get any better XD
But to be honest, I would only get those HD versions if it had more/longer acts or planets
I wouldn’t mind if there’s HD ver. Only one catch, IT BETTER SELL. So far, I’ve seen little 360/PS3 owners wanting this.
On second thought, this will be very hard on the Colors department. I believe it was confirmed that it’ll stay on the wii/ds.
Honestly if Sonic Colors gets confirmed for Xbox 360 it will be officially my most wanted game on my list
Just don’t pull an “NBA Jam” on the Wii owners, Sega. Let the Wii version sell, then in the future, bring it to HD consoles if it does very well, perhaps with some bonus features to differenciate the two versions. This worked for both Viewtiful Joe and Resident Evil 4 (bringing the game to PS2 when Gamecube versions sold awesomely), and I’m sure Sega (if they’re smart) will most likely do the same.
Sonic Colors HD (ps3/360)
With 2 more levels? XD
Remember the EPIC 360/PS3 version of unleashed
I can’t help but laugh at all the retards on 4chan XD
I guess it would make sense if they didn’t do another Olympics with Mario and Sonic. The first one was conjured up for being symbolic to the Olympics (bringing people together), the second one was somewhat unnecessary but not totally nonsensical with the different sports in the Winter Games (plus a heavier emphasis on fanservice for the fans of the franchises). If they had to do another one based on London in 2012 they have to either up the ante, or it would just be a rehash.
Just wonder what it could be. Platformer? Hopefully. Racing (a la Mario Kart/S&SASR)? hopefully as well if not for the comment that it wouldn’t be sports related.
Oh and an HD Sonic Colours would be fantastic thx.
O don’t want colors HD or sonic anniversary
I want Episode 2 Sonic 4 has been better and fix physics for PERFECT classic back
Mario VS Sonic: a propre fighting game please…or at least a racing one…but fighting is better
..oh and please,a development collaboration between SEGA and Nintendo.
@SpeedDemon: I think they’re all JEALOUS.
I mean, why wouldn’t they want this?
Well
Sonic is NOT BACK,put in your heads
Mario is not back with galaxy or New Super Mario Wii
The difference now is sonic 4 and sonic colors evolute in RIGHT WAY.
And both is awesome game since 1998.
You know, it only makes sense really. Colors HD is like, a no brainer if you think about it.
Sonic Colors HD does seem like a no-brainer…develop a game on the cheap for Wii, then spend relatively little to enhance it for HD after it’s already made money on the original version. Makes much more business sense than making two different games of the same name, one HD and one not, expecting the latter to be the magical medpack to the hemorrhaging expenses of the former.
Really, I don’t know what to make of this Wentos guy. He’s accurate enough to be an insider, but it’s all stuff anyone with a brain could’ve easily guessed…under the assumption that SEGA had grown half a brain of its own. Oh, daytime stages popular and night not so much? Let’s concentrate on the former! Given the track record of SEGA beforehand, however, the optimism contained in that guess is astronomical.
Do something instead of more Olympics? Makes sense…but it’ll still take an aircraft carrier’s worth of game development geniuses to make it work. I guess they’ll have to let Nintendo help this time, then.
like the last time he “leaked” info, about the whole Sonic 4 series, (optional characters will most likely happen) This article will eventually turn out to be atleast 80% true! ^_^ now then…. Sonic Colours HD? I Will buy the Wii but THIS NEWS MAKES IT TEMPTING TO WAIT 2 SEE IF IT HAPPENS! @____@
@everyone saying Colors HD is a no-brainer
Trying to make a good game on a single console is one thing, but porting it to other consoles with different engines and mechanics is another. In order to bring out full potential on another console, the developers would literally have to build Sonic Colors from the ground up to suit the other consoles. Simply copying and pasting the original version and slapping it on the HD consoles with little to no updates is sure to bring up glitches, bugs, and other errors. That’s what Sonic Team did to the Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 re-releases, and they got poor ratings.
I’m not saying they shouldn’t make a Sonic Colors HD, but simply calling it a no-brainer and letting Sonic Team do a lazy job on porting with less cost and more profit cannot be ignored, especially considering that it is unfair towards the 360/ps3 owners.
sonic colors HD please!!!!
I agree with “Ze on” (concordo com o Zé): we would love Sonic Colors HD for the Xbox360 please SEGA…
Problem is, if Sonic Colours is made in HD, guys that have it on Wii wouldn’t want it because they would pay more for the same.
This is all comments made by some dudes and that doesn’t mean it’s really true. From what I read from Sega, them seem hellbent on keeping it on Nintendo’s side. Of course it’ll be a nice idea, there’s a HUGE possibility that it will do worse in sale and reviews.
@krazeeKidd102: You make a very good point. I meant only that it was a no-brainer if looked at from a sales perspective only, which is OBVIOUSLY how SEGA does things given the aforementioned Sonic Adventure rereleases. If they’re serious about upping series quality (which some may find suspect due to the dearth of upgrades in the PSN/XBLA version of Sonic Adventure), they’ll want to be sure to do the port RIGHT. Doesn’t mean it won’t happen, though…it’s still cheaper to rebuild an existing game than it is make an entirely new one.
Didn’t Aaron say not listen to this guy? Yet this guy somehow got his predictions right… Tristan you probably can find what Aaron said.
This seems a little sad that, even though he had some right predictions, we’re relying on some comments on the internet. Even the comments on the same blog thinks it’s ridiculous.
Sonic Team awesome.
What if Wentos turned out to be Takeshi Iiizuka. I’d lol. But seriously, I don’t care what the new Mario & Sonic is, as long as it’s good and I can play with someone besides Sonic or Mario.
Hmmmmmmmm….. Something is definitely wrong about this……
Sega explained why Colors was exclusive to the wii/ds. They even went as far as saying that it was made for the wii and that they hinted that the majority of the Sonic fans appeared in Nintendo’s side and not 360/PS3.
I also noticed that Sega seemed to notice their mistakes with Unleashed.
Even if this game is a success, that cannot be said the same if it did came to HD. I can predict that it will do as bad as unleashed did.
i’m “DEM GREEN EYES.”
I’M MAD AT THAT COW.
