Just 30% Want Compilation of Classic Levels
In light of news two weeks ago that Sega is allegedly planning a update to classic Sonic levels as an anniversary game, we asked in the latest TSSZ News poll what kind of game you would prefer as the 20th anniversary title.
We receive the largest response in a while–more than 1,050 votes–and with them all tallied, 39 percent want a completely original Sonic game to hold the anniversary role. It was the winner in the poll results.
Meanwhile, 30 percent said they want a compilation that updates classic Sonic levels. Only 21 percent said they want a direct sequel to a previous Sonic franchise, such as Sonic Adventure or Sonic Heroes. Ten percent were unsure.
A new poll is now available for you to vote on. You can comment on this poll’s result in the comments section.

After Sonic Colors > 4, it’s been obvious. It’s okay if some games went back to the classic roots, but 4 didn’t do it right yet. Sonic Colors feels more of an original game *albeit built from the unleashed ideas* It felt more polished and more of a complete game. This is basically a sign that we can’t rely on the classics all the time. I have nothing against the idea, but maybe Sega needs to take some consideration before releasing.
as much as I want a new game an updated compilation of classic levels through the past 20 years using the Hedgehog Engine is an awesome idea put it shouldnt feel like a compilation the game can tie the levels nicely like having time portals or something..
Personally, I wouldn’t want to see the old zones bastardized and ruined in some way, should things go south. There’s a lot that could go wrong with trying to modernize the old level designs to accommodate a brand new style of play (and don’t even get me started on the PHYSICS)
But that being said, I’d love to see the old zone TEMPLATES re-used in a brand new modern game. I’d rather see 3D Sonic running through something resembling Marble Garden or Hydrocity than the rooftops of “Spagonia” or the San Francisco bridge.
I’d LOVE it if they simply re-created old zones or locations as entirely new levels more in line with the proposed gameplay style. I essentially picture a game like Colors set on Angel Island instead of an “interstellar amusement park”.
After the spectacular failure that was Sonic 4, Colours has shown that the only way for Sonic is “up” rather than “back”.
A compiliation of remade levels would seriously comprimise Sonic Team’s creativity, as crazy as that sounds.
Sonic 4 not fail, only nostalgia with you don’t have time to small changes.
But obvlious sonic 4 have a horrible physics btw.
Sonic 4 is a good game I don’t played since 1998 in fact.
Btw,I prefer original game in 3D too.
Sonic 4: Ep 1 is still somewhat of a dissapointment to me.
It’s not that I think it’s bad. It’s just that when it has the title “Sonic 4″, I expect it to be as marvelous as the classic games. However, it’s only “pretty good” at best. To me, it’s not a failure because I think it’s bad, but it’s a failure because it didn’t live up to my expectations, nor did it live up to most other fans’ expectations, and that’s why it doesn’t deserve the “4″ title. And it doesn’t matter if future episodes are better, it still won’t change the failure of the first episode.
At least Sonic Colours looks fantastic, hell even Free Riders looks like it’s going to be recieved better than Sonic 4.
I honestly think that sonic 4 was broken as dare I say it Sonic 06. Sonic colors on the other hand looks to be this generations sonic cd. Lets hope when Sega adds a new character, they need make the character feel like they belong to the franchise not just some add on.
“Lets hope when Sega adds a new character, they need make the character feel like they belong to the franchise not just some add on.”
Ammmmm…
No?
Sequel to Sonic Heroes? lol no thanks
@Kits: How would it mess with Sonic Team’s creativity? They get to reimagine favorite 2D zones in 2.5D/3D environments. If I was a developer, I’d be pretty stoked for such a project.
I’m with serpx.
I think there’s a big difference between recreating old zones in a new style (for a commemorative anniversary game) and copy/pasting cliches and trying to pass them off as new for a long-awaited SEQUEL.
direct sequel to Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes?
How is that possible?
I have no problem with a collection of remade levels, but a Sonic Adventure 3 or a Sonic Heroes 2, if done right, would be the best way to go… As long as it doesn’t turn out like Sonic 06…
