More Clean Video…Not a Clean Result
That Sonic Free Riders Metacritic average of 59 will likely go down a touch in due course.
GameTrailers has released a more than three minute video review and they, like many others, were none too pleased with the Kinect exclusive. They awarded SFR a 4.5 out of 10, and their score in the Gameplay subcategory was a 3.4.
The voice-over reviewer refers to the general Riders series as “reviled,” echos serious control problems within the game. “You’re the controller, sure, but you’re barely in control” is another noteworthy quote from the review. Navigating the menu, according to GameTrailers, was comparable to using a rotary phone.
The good news for us is that GameTrailers recorded some clean footage from a variety of stages, including tutorial areas. So, what’s below should be well worth the three minutes of your time if you’re on the fence of making a purchase and forming your own opinion.
We’d like to pass along another note: G4 has given SFR a 3 out of 5 on its scale, the equivalent of a 60% score. That will only help the current Metacritic average slightly. Remember, this is one the deeper offerings in Kinect’s launch–even the GT review agrees on the jam packed contents–so public perception will be important. So will launch sales, and we hope to have some unofficial numbers in a week or two.

Huh, I would’ve expected it to get a full review.
P.S. That that was a weird song at the end….
It’s really jarring seeing the Kinect controls giving Sonic and the gang freaky hand and head animations.
I wonder if a patch can save the controls, is the developer at fault for this or is the Kinect just not capable of delivering smooth controls for a fast paced again without having to strap on permanent training wheels?
The menu was fine for me…
