Sonic Colors for DS Leaked?

Did the NA Build Illegally Surface?

We have this not yet confirmed, but if it pans out, it looks like in the homestretch, Sonic Colors will not be immune to a significant leak.

With only a few days left until its European release and a week to go until the domestic launch, TSSZ News has learned less than reputable sources are claiming to offer a North American build of the game’s DS edition in the form of a downloadable ROM.  We haven’t been able to confirm if this is the demo, which is known to be dumped in research circles, or a fuller, if not the full product.  The former could very well be what’s circulating as of this evening, with claims of it being a full product.  The build we saw was contained within a protected RAR.  Of course, as we don’t promote piracy, TSSZ News won’t provide a direct link to source material.

If this does pan out, it will be the third Sonic game to see a full leak in thirteen months’ time.  In October 2009, both Wii and DS ports of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games were leaked.  The big leak of 2010, of course, was the PartnerNET build of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 in the Springtime.

As it is just a few days to launch day in Europe, and copies are likely in transit to retailers, these instances of piracy become all too likely.  We will have to see if the Wii version suffers a similar fate as the week progresses.  On the other hand, this could just be the work of a few sources trying to trick unsuspecting.  For now, we’re just not sure–though leaning toward hoax–and for that reason, it’s been filed under rumor.
