This Time, Droid Doesn’t
Even though Google Android OS powered mobile phones hold close to a 25 percent share of the US smartphone market, Sega has apparently ruled out a port of Sonic 4 to the device in favor of the Apple iPhone.
The website RipTen asked Sega representatives about the prospect directly at a recent press event. The company has no intention of considering the Android for a Sonic 4 port. It doesn’t seem like they’re interested in paying Android any attention for the moment. And why not–the iPhone market share stands at over 37 percent as of this article’s publication.
Were the tables turned, one would have to wonder if Sega would make the move as a way to increase mobile business. But for now, they seem fine focusing efforts on Apple’s mobile devices.

That’s too bad because I have an HTC Hero. Fortunately, I’m too psyched for Sonic Colors to even care!
This is terribly closed minded, things like this make we think Sega only cares about the iPhone because of how well brand titles sell on the app store regardless of actual quality. Every time I look at the top 25 it’s full of apps and games that are horrible in quality but sell because of brand names. Sure this happens with another game systems but the app store is plagued with it..
Sega has put out some decent efforts on the iPhone but the genesis emulations are nearly unplayable messes.
I’m pretty sure that android doesn’t handle 3D as well as IOS 4 . I believe it has something to do with all android apps using the Java Virtual Machine. But I don’t really don’t I only half remember something I read somewhere.
Apple does what droidon’t.
The problem with Android = JAVA.
No, honestly – does Dimps know Java?
Andriod can’t do well enough for games… not as well as the iphone at least.
It’s a shame really.
Unfortunately, the Droid Market is always getting the short end of the stick. Sonic Radio’s service provider, Live365, was seriously holding back on making an app for Droid, and are only JUST NOW getting around to making it, after having an iPhone app for a few years now. Their excuse was that they wanted to see how the market will grow, and make sure its just not a ‘short-term’ situation that won’t die. Apple’s market has proven lasting power. Not many DEVELOPERS have as much faith in the Droid market ATM.
IMO, Tristan, if SEGA’s takes the route that Live365 did, a combination of user demand and growth of the Android Market, and proof of its staying power might get SEGA to change their minds.
In the meanwhile, this is a big disappointed for me, since I have a HTC Hero, so not only can I NOT listen to my own radio station on the phone, but I can’t play Sonic 4 either.
It’s stupid reasons like this Sega only makes software. They’re too fucking stupid to know how to make money. an Android port would be easy and it would make money. Look how many devices that have Android. The game is even coming to Windows Phone 7. I hope Sega finally goes out of business because they’re fucking stupid and don’t know how to do business.
