After Displacement, What’s the Former Sonic Voice Been Up to?
Despite being replaced after a long tenure by Roger Craig Smith, Jason Griffith was calm and collected when addressing fans and followers at the Texas SoniCon this month.
The two part video, uploaded by YouTuber SigmaHunter06, is available below. Griffith explains what he would be doing if he weren’t voice acting (as far as can be deduced, he is still employed with 4Kids), how strep throat made his job on Sonic Unleashed difficult, and how very…attentive the audience is to Griffith’s work. And if you’re wondering…yes, Griffith voiced the Werehog in Unleashed. If nothing else, if you’re interested in voice acting as a career, the insight from the panel will be helpful.

The Werehog had strep throat? Somehow in a sort of twisted way that makes sense to me, and I’ve never even heard the Werehog voice acting in anything other than Night of the Werehog!
Jason’s a hack voice actor, I’m glad Sega finally got rid of him.

Shadow the Hedgehog was a decent game (probably just barely), but it should never be someone’s favorite Sonic game.
His normal voice would be perfect for knuckles.

Jason did a great job for voicing Sonic. I miss this voice actor.
^He was good in Sonic Unleashed I will admit but in a couple of past games not so much.
I like his work. Especially in the later games. I’ll never forget intonation of Sonic’s voice in the pre-last cutscene of Secret Rings, when Erazor tranforms in Alf Layla wa-Layla, especially last frase: “We got to stop him, Shahra. Plaese, lend me your power!”.

Wow, he seems kinda shy. Either that or grumpy…and I think I’d be too, talking about a role I’d recently lost.
I’m almost done with the last boss on SBK and it’s a little surreal knowing after one more cutscene this is the last I’m going to hear of most of these people. I can see what people meant when they said the voice work was good in that game. I am enjoying the dialog, and I’m going to miss some of it. Happy they kept Eggman though.
It’s kind of sad, actually. I don’t know which voice is better because I haven’t heard enough of the new guy yet (so far it’s a little too deep for me), but I’m not really going to complain. Like sports, it’s ultimately a job; I feel bad for the ones that lost it, and happy for the ones that got it.
The “drive through” scene is really funny in the other video…if only they’d done karaoke
In the link at the end of these videos there’s also a clip of Jason doing the ‘aliens’ line from colors. Also video of the lady who does Amy. It’s pretty amusing. So far from the short clip of the new Amy, I didn’t like the fact that she sounds soft like Princess Peach, but we’ll see.
He was fine as Sonic. At first I hated it but he got better over time and I liked his portrayal of sonic and Shadow once he found his groove ( tho some fans will disagree but then again we ARE Sonic fans lol). I’ll actually miss him but I must say Roger is a suitable replacement.
