Nowhere to Go But Up…Hopefully
There’s a reason no single port of Sonic Colors made the Chart Track Top 40 this week: neither edition sold that well in Europe and Eastern territories, estimates VGChartz.
The figures are in, and VGChartz suggests just 10,230 copies of the Wii version sold in Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and applicable Asian territories. The news is worse on the DS side, where the website estimates just 5,473 units sold in those same areas.
To be clear, these are unofficial estimates and they should go up as Colors sits in stores for a full week this week. That said, much of that defense falters in comparison to past launch week fare. For example, earlier this year, launch sales for the Wii port of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing topped out at 23,447, says VGChartz. In 2008, the Wii port of Sonic Unleashed tallied estimates of 22,839 sold on launch week. And even the first week sales of Sonic and the Black Knight on the Wii fared better than Colors, according to the same source, when 13,424 copies were estimated sold. That is bad.
We will see how a full week of sales help or hurt the game’s chances next week in Europe. That should also be when our first indication of domestic sales is made available. We will stay on top of both for you.

Everyone is probably just out of dosh after COD7. It’ll sell alot more before christmas probably.
As many users alrady said on youtube, this game is more wanted on Christmas, it’d be easier to get, especially if you’re a kid.
The game is at a price of 46,95€ in Spain, it will probably have sold better by 7th January.
They should’ve released this game during the Christmas season. Its not going to look good for Colors, sitting next to Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed. Granted, neither of those games are on the Wii, but for people who own multiple consoles, I just can’t see Colors getting the love it deserves.
Instead of saying that standard line about vgchartz you do some investigating into how they get their data and if it lines up with official sales numbers. That site reeks of sensationism and I’m sick of seeing it.

As a matter of fact, Since it was out last week, I still did not get a call from EB gamer “the game is out, come and get it” (I pre-order it, and I live in Sydney), I will go to the store this weekend and ask them myself.
next time sega release a sonic game on a month when there isnt a new cod due etc…
The release dates should also be considered. Unleashed was released Dec. 12th, close to Christmas. Black Knight and All-Stars Racing were both released around February-April. There was no reason to /wait/ to buy any of these three games, whereas Sonic Colors has the joy of waiting /a month and a half/ before Christmas! I couldn’t say anything about its release stats until Christmas comes along.
And yeah, COD could also be a part of the low sales. This really is too early to tell.

In the case of Kinect numbers, they surveyed 200 retailers via telephone, analyzed pre-order data, and have a third party retail panel for additional guidance. It’s the equivalent of taking a political poll, and in any other circle that would be considered very reliable. They know what they’re doing.

I think the reason why it hasn’t sold that many is because most people are going to get it for their kids for Christmas. I mean I want it all right, but I think I’ll ask for it for Christmas, I’m in no rush (I’m skint anyway XD). Give it a chance until Crimbo, and I’m sure the sales will increase.

Honestly, I expected it to be selling like hotcakes when it was released. I just think the sales will jump to the hundred thousands when Christmas comes along, though.
But the sales don’t really say much, in this game’s case- It’s all the rage on Deviantart and EVERY SINGLE PERSON rated it very, very, good. Heck, some are saying they would buy a sequel.
Can’t wait for Christmas for it to blow up the charts~

I smell something very rotten if they feel they need to play damage control like that every few months. I have no reason to believe they aren’t in the business of blog bait and nothing but…. and business is good.
People don’t want kiddy crap like Sonic Colors, they want Sonic Adventure 3.
