Inside, a Video Montage
While collecting the red rings in the Wii edition of Sonic Colors unlocks the complete Sonic Simulator (and, if beaten, Super Sonic), the DS edition has a different approach–peeks at development art for both versions.
Dozens of bits are available for viewing in-game, including Wisp drawings, environment concepts, badnik designs, and more. The individual works haven’t yet been posted anywhere for download (if you can help us sort that out, please send a news tip) but we do have this just compiled montage from scener Dusk Golem from Youtube available for your review below.
The montage is set to the fantastic orchestral arrangement of the image theme Reach for the Stars. It’s a nice way to wrap up the week. Enjoy it below. Again, if you have the individual art assets available, we’d love to hear from you via our News Tips system.

So strange that the Wii version lacks concept art and sound test, even the movie playback is strange because the scenes are just given numbers instead of a name and a thumbnail. Even more rushed out and unpolished games in the series had competent movie and music playback.
I wanted the sound test too:( music is awesome.
Now that’s some classic Badnik art! Beautiful.
am i the only one who didnt realise that sonics head is in each of the wisps lol
Wah so theres no concept art or sound test on wii? T.T I loved unlocking those. oh well…it still has great replay value =)
@Eggfang
I assumed it was because those rushed and unpolished games were given that little bit of extra love to make them feel more rewarding than they actually were, whereas Sega spent the majority of their time and efforts focusing on shit that actually mattered with Colors. It shows.
It would have been nice to have had thumbnail views for the cutscenes and a proper sound test (also would have loved a thumbnail view of each act so I could remember which was which, but alas), but I’m happy I got a game with REAL substance instead of a fully fleshed out menu.
It’s always has been interesting to see what the concept art looks like. I still wish someone would make an Art of Video Games book sometime.
@Eggfang: What makes you think it’s a sign of the Wii version being unpolished? It could have been done in an effort to give DS users a little extra something to make up for the fact there’s 2D only and no 3D sections.
@Dreamer
Eggfang didn’t say anything about the Wii version being unpolished. He said it’s odd that other less-polished games include standard features that this game doesn’t. The reason he finds that odd is because this game actually DOES have rather high production values, so it seems backward that crappier games would have better features.
Ah, yeah, I see what he’s getting at now.
