Another Piece of the Game Informer Puzzle
There was another part of that Alan Pritchard interview that, to our discredit, we didn’t catch on when news tipster Blue Emerald told us about it Friday.
Mr. Pritchard, Sega of America’s new sales and marketing VP, did drop a big hint about the future of repurposed Dreamcast fare when queried again about the prospect of Sega going back into the console business:
The Dreamcast fans are very devoted. You see on eBay people are still buying the games and system. We actually have a Dreamcast collection coming out soon. We are looking to bring some of the old Dreamcast games to market digitally and packaged. There are still titles to be announced. But, unless there’s something I don’t know — no one has told me about getting back into the console business.
So, while one door remains closed, another one opens. We’ll follow up on anything more we hear. Thanks again to Blue Emerald who provided us with this and more information Friday via our News Tips system, and Mykonos for the reminder today.

$5 says they shovel in both Adventure games, and don’t include the Shenmue games.
Give me some Saturn games over Dreamcast any day. I definitely want some Astal and Clockwork Knight for my Wii.
This will probably just be Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, SEGA Bass Fishing and Space Channel 5 Part 2.
HAHA! “But, unless there’s something I don’t know — no one has told me about getting back into the console business.”
Just the fact he mentioned SEGA getting back into the console biz is a good sign, even if he said no one has told him about it. SEGA Phoenix, anyone? How about the…drumroll…SEGA Nemesis?!
@Sloth: Why would they want to re-release a game series that stopped at a cliffhanger ending almost a decade ago?
So… Sega is spying what people buy and sell at eBay huh?
Interesting.
Console business? I’d say SEGA is more into TOYS business!
@Ryan Bloom
Because they were some of the best games the Dreamcast had.
This is absurd. All that’s going to be released is games where source code was obtained to create a port for another console. The shells for the games have been saved, and are ready to port to this next generation. Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure are both the Gamecube and PS2 ports, why should we expect anything more?
Sonic adventure 2 won’t be in because nobody has made a PC port of it yet, unless someone in-house ports nullDC to the 360 and PS3, at which point the entire dreamcast library will become available for modern day systems. Expect no actual effort to go into any of these titles.
AAAAAWWWWWSSSSSSSOOOOOOMMMMMEEEEEE
Not big surprise.
A “Dreamcast Collection”? Then what are the digital rereleases of Dreamcast games for?
JGR or no sale.
