Bayonetta Nominated for Game of the Year
The Editor’s Nominees for Gamespot’s Best Games of 2010 are out. Only one Sonic game made the cut, and it’s the one most have forgotten by now.
Sumo Digital’s Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing got two nods, in the Best Driving Game and Best Surprisingly Good Game categories. It is the only Sonic title to be nominated and one of only a handful of Sega titles to make the cut, for better or worse.
The good news is that another Sega game, Bayonetta, is vying for Game of the Year, among four other nominations. It will have quite a rough ride, however, competing with the likes of Super Mario Galaxy 2, Red Dead Redemption, and Super Meat Boy in the category. Resonance of Fate made the cut on the list, grabbing four nods but not GOTY. But Iron Man 2 and Aliens vs. Predator are both competing in a more dubious category–Worst Game Everyone Played.
Winners will be rolled out through next week, followed by the reader’s choice component. Thanks to Bluehedgehog25 for sending this in. If you have news to share, be sure to share it with us by clicking News Tips at the top of every page.

So Colors is no where to be seen on this list? Already not interested, though I will say Bayonetta is beyond awesome.
Where the hell is Sonic Colors on Surprisingly Good Games? Seriously, what the hell..?
SASASR deserves some recognition. A mighty fine game.
Sonic Colours is on the readers choice for Surprisingly Good Game (I think for Platforming as well), I think GameSpot just found ASR to be a little bit more surprising.
Wow…. I completely forgot about that game, and I bought it.
I usually lose interest in racing games after the first month.
It wasn’t bad, but I don’t know about best of 2010…
Sonic Colors was nominated, but nobody voted for it. It’s unfair
I think Iron Man2 will be nominated for “Worst Game” lol
@RaggtimeSonic:
Sonic colors wasn’t voted for because no one wanted to. How is that unfair? As much as i like Sonic Colours if i we’re to see the likes of Super Street Fighter IV on the same list i wouldn’t vote for Sonic jusr based on the fact that it wouldn’t be fair to Sonic fans not to, i’d vote for Street Fighter because to me it’s an all round better game.
As it stands, I’d vote for Red Dead Redemption. Hopefully I get Galaxy 2 for Christmas, though.

Sure that’s okay and all, but I was just saying. It wasn’t supposed to be taken personal.
Galaxy 2? Sad to think a half-assed sequel completely lacking in innovation would be Game of the Year.
I’ve heard several people singing praises for Meat Boy, but I honestly don’t see what all the fuss is about. It’s a cute little indie game to be sure, and it is most solid indeed… but GotY? Yeah right :/
@ChaoticFox
I’ll let a lack in innovation slide for once, as Super Mario Galaxy 2 is just BETTER than the original, seeing as the level design in the second was overall more risk-taking and ultimately better. I can see why some people’d call it a half-assed sequel, but its just so much fun.
I agree with Super Meat Boy, though. An indie game as GOTY?
I’m not saying SMG2 is in any way BAD or that the lack of originality is anything to be ashamed of (although I am a tad disappointed, given Nintendo’s groundbreaking history)…
I’d just expect the “game of the year” to be something… more. Something more outstanding than an copycat sequel with moderately improved level design.. SMG2 is essentially this generation’s SMB: the Lost Levels.
Whether that is the industry’s fault for not being able to compete with Mario’s most uninspired titles, or the people’s fault for being so narrow minded, I have no idea. I just think it’s a sad day to see something like that as a top contender for “game of the year”.
