The Elite with the Advantage
Owners of at least one major console, the Playstation 3, have a chance to own Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I at a discount this Holiday season. But the more elite among them have a chance to own it for even less.
Via a Twitter tip from AugieD, we’ve learned members of Sony’s Playstation Plus initiative can get the game at a fifty percent discount–$7.49 through the duration of the Sega Mega Sale. For those unaware, Playstation Plus is Sony’s Elite equivalent, offering members who pay about 50 bucks a year some exclusive deals, early access to demos and other items, and more.
So, for them, it’s a fifty percent discount through January 3rd. The rest of us have to pay the still fairly deep discount of $9.99. Thanks to AugieD for the Twitter tip. If you have news to share, be sure to share it with us by clicking News Tips at the top of every page.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! >:(
I pay $15 for an underwhelming episode and it later gets price drops up to $8 TWO MONTHS LATER?!
^ Since when SEGA doesn’t drop prices??
Just learn and you won’t expend so much money next time Lol
@GMAN:
Why are you complaining? You wanted the game when it came out didn’t you? If you wanted the game that much when it was released then you pay the full price. If you’re willing to wait then you may get a discount, that’s just that way it works. I brought Sonic 4 when it was first released, cost me 1200ms points but i won’t complain if it gets discounted now because i was willing to pay full whack for it and now i’ve played the game and (to an extent) enjoyed it.
If only there was a way to get a refund on downloadable titles……
@GMAN
Don´t complain if you liked the game. There is people like me who weren´t going to pay that high price for a game like Sonic 4 Episode 1, but we´ll probably buy it at half the price. I excepted 800 points, so if the game ends up at 600 points, I will get it without any doubt.
And you know… Downloadable games usually drop 33% or 50% of the price in 6 months from launch. There´s a big market under DLC games, who get one every month or even every week, and it´s hard to appeal that market if you haven´t done it yet (I didn´t bought Sonic 4, but yeah, I have bought like 7-8 DLC games meanwhile, so it´s hard to keep me interested on buying a game I didn´t like that much on its launch).
So keep that in mind for the next time, if the game is downloadable, it will probably get a discount before 6 months. There´s even games which get discounted before, like Undergarden, which is already at 50% being launched on 10th of November. It´s good to wait for a discount if the game didn´t appeal to you. But if it did, what´s the problem?
@Kmetal
You make an excellent point, but you should notice that GMAN used the word “underwhelming”.
I’m sure he belongs to the substantially large group of purchasers (including myself) that felt CHEATED by the $15 price point due to the poor quality of the product received.
If the game had turned out to be any GOOD, I don’t think there’d be as many complaints about the drop in price. Problem is, many of us had grown drunk on hype and promises that this was the game we had been waiting 16 years for… to the point that we literally felt swindled when we realized that, in fact, it wasn’t even close.
To people like us, the drop in price is like a slap in the face. A great big “Hey, suckers – we sure got you with that marketing pitch, didn’t we?”
@ChaoticFox
But that´s the reason the demo exists to begin with. I was caught with the hype too when they started to say that it was going to be Sonic 4, and started to release classic enemies in the official page. But you know, when many people started to say that something smelt bad, when it was discovered the physics could not be what they should, I started to be careful about the game, as I am with any game (I have had many deceptions in the past, and you know, many of them were Sonic games).
When the game came out, I tried the demo. And that´s when I found myself the physics were off, the game weren´t as classic, and it wasn´t that fun. I played it maybe two or three times to make sure, but I learnt I didn´t really want the game because it wasn´t that good. So I decided to wait. And that´s what all of you should have done. If you tried the demo, you liked it, and then you bought it, sorry about that, those things happens (I liked the Sonic 06 demo, for example). But it´s not like anybody didn´t know the problems of the game, they were critized a lot of months before release. There were plenty of videos of the game, we knew how large it was, etc. There were only a few changes and two new levels, which can´t change the entire game.
What I´m trying to say is that you people should be more careful next time. Of course the company who wins money from you is going to tell you their products are the best of the best everytime. But think twice about that before purchasing something that maybe isn´t for you. I learned this the hard way with Sonic 06 (and many other games).
Wii version had no demo. I was robbed D:
…but you’re right, and in the end our Sonic-like impulsivity and impatience royally screwed us over. I’m sure come Episode 2 people will be a lot more cautious.
Sorry, I forgot WiiWare… There´s no demo version on that
