Hear The Lines that Never Made the Cut
There remains a faction of fans who believe the less Sonic speaks, the better. Among Sonic Colors‘s many accomplishments over previous 3D Sonic games is a healthy balance between cutscene dialogue and general action stage silence.
But if you believe a montage of unused voice clips from the game, extracted and ripped by Sonic Retro tech member Technokami, it almost wasn’t that way. The package includes an array of Sonic wild lines, many of which in theory fit exclamations after boss victories like a glove. There were also a bit of Eggman lines dumped as well, one of which holds an interesting revelation from a canon standpoint: That the in-game Wisp powers, we assume, were to be more powerful than the Chaos Emeralds. Those Emeralds ended up making the cut via Game Land without a lot of rhyme or reason, but the line didn’t. There will also be some lines that, standalone, will be part of parodies for years to come, including the perfectly hilarious “A little rough…but that was my kind of ride” and the ironic “You can’t beat quality with quantity.”
After the rip, copies have been made available to YouTube, and we have one such dub below, courtesy of scener Dusk the Horror Keeper. Out of what you’ll hear, only one line was used in-game. Take a listen below.

NO! Having an entire species more powerful than the Chaos Emeralds completely defeats the purpose! I’m so glad that line was removed.

I wonder why the lines were cut?
Did they not want any dialogue in-game? Because besides the Tails hint bubbles and the two lines at the end of the Final Boss battle, I don’t think there is any in-game dialogue from Sonic (besides from grunts and stuff) and most of the in-game dialogue (if not all of it if you have the hints turned off) comes from the announcer.
Did they think that the players/fans would not like hearing Sonic in-game? Did they think the lines were awful? Did they just forget to add them in? What? Please somebody explain this because I think the lines would fit nicely in the game…
Heck if the game does get ported to HD consoles I WANT the lines in the game just to see how they play out….because they aren’t bad and I actually like a few. Of course if they were in the game it wouldn’t add anything and since they’re not it doesn’t really take away anything either…
However nice little touches do add up in my opinion, so if your going to port the game to HD consoles….please put these lines in….
They were probably taken out because they sound so incredibly stupid, are very cringe-worthy, and cornier than the dialogue that actually made it into the game.
.. I lol’d. Really. Hard. Oh gosh, I have a feeling a lot of those will be used for memes for years to come. XD
0:42 is that a Sonic Unleashed sound effect?
That’s our Eggman, constantly battling constipation for a decade.
Just having the characters blab on in stages would have been annoying, but some scripted talking events certainly wouldn’t have hurt anything.
Stopped listening after the Chaos Emerald part, but I’m glad these lines were cut. None of them sounded that good, and most were unnecessary and even cheesier than the rest of the game’s dialogue. All in all, these clips are just of a lower quality than what made it into the final product.
Kudos to the cutting room team. Trim the fat. Keep it classy.

Yeah….I’m glad they cut out that Chaos Emerald line. That would have ruined it for me. I mean, really? Aliens more powerful than the Chaos Emeralds? Like Unknownlight said, that definitely would have defeated the purpose.
Honestly as cheesy as some of these lines are, I would have preferred them to be in the game, in the past it made the characters seem more lively imo. Now Sonic seems almost souless during gameplay.

All these lines are ‘meh’ at best. The game is better off without them.

I would be fine if those last lines were part of the final battle, Sonic’s not necessarily the ‘quiet’ type.
