West Prez Joins Fans in Holding High Hopes
Fans wait with anticipation and high expectations for Sonic’s 20th year in gaming, and the man who likely knows all we’re about to see in the coming year is in many respects right with them.
In what may be his oddest choice of words since typecasting Sonic Colors’s demographics, Sega West president Mike Hayes in speaking to UK trade MCV afforded his thoughts among other industry names talking about hopes for 2011.
“I want 2011 to be a great year for a little blue hedgehog,” Hayes said, “as Sonic is 20 years old in June.”
Noteworthy is how this is a “want,” not a promise. That’s somewhat important because this is the man who’s supposed to know what’s in store for all of us. That he remains coy on anniversary plans and releases suggests either we’re in for something huge…or…

He probably just wants to keep everything a surprise, or avoid being accused of overhyping SEGA’s products.
I’m sure it will be a good year, Sega knows what they’re doing now. Just don’t push it
…the unthinkable happens. This year Sega is gonna have alot of pressure of a good Sonic game. Fans want… wait no… demand a great AAA title sonic game.
>_.< no 3 or 4 or 5 games please!
@LordSpeed: it’s been confirmed there will be at least 3 new games in 2011.
@Sjmaster: yeah i know…but =( the time -> 2010 Colors (main series) -2011 (other main series maybe)
i don’t want the hype of Sonic Next-gen
the Anniversary should have been one game.
@Jakeiiii: right! >.<
@ThE InFoRmEr: that's the problem…the pressure
SEGA/Sonic team + Pressure = EPIC FAIL
SEGA/Sonic team – Pressure = great game, like Unleashed.
I’m sure that 2011 will be a good year for Sonic. Besides, 2010 is possibly a start of the new “renaissance” of the series.
It COULD be a new years.
They KNOW what needs to be down with Sonic 4. If it fails again, there’s no excuse.
They have received great feedback on Sonic Colors, and so they KNOW what it takes to make a great 3D Sonic game.
As long as SEGA doesn’t make stupid moves, it can be a fantastic year.
It COULD be a great year*. New Years, really? Fail typo.
I trust SEGA since I was born
June?? My birthday’s at the END of June! When Sonic 20th comes out, I’m getting it.
“That he remains coy on anniversary plans and releases suggests either we’re in for something huge…or…”
Or SEGA doesn’t give a shit about its Western division. Just throwing it out there.
When are they gonna give us these announcements they promised??
we all know that they’re going to be good, all of you should have learned form bashing Sonic Colors 5 months before it came out
@Raggtime
I don’t really remember very many people bashing on Colors. Seemed to me it was even more hotly anticipated than Sonic 4 was, once we actually caught wind of it.
@ChaoticFox
True
Okay i know Aaron and Ken and kellie are on the retro sonic fanbases side but does that mean he is too?
Heh can’t wait until Sonic turns 21 and gets drunk at wal-mart.
Bring Sonic Colors HD and it will automatically be a an awesome year
I cant wait for the sonic anniversary game and annoucements
and sega… Please for the love of god return sonics awesome spindash and items please! In these and future 3d titles! PLEASE!!!
And with that said… GOOD LUCK SEGA
By the way who agrees with me about the returning the item pods and spindash? Cmon people! You must admit that with these missing sonic is starting to feel less.. Sonicy lol..
I await your responses
No Spindash would not work in Sonic Unleashed/Colors so if its not properly designed in the game I dont mind not using it, it worked better in 2D in 3D it was a mess
I realized quite recently that it would be easy as HELL to bring the spin dash back – just replace the stupid slide ability with it and add some friction (ever notice how that slide just… keeps… going…?). Win.
Sure, Sonic Adventure 1 style spindash, and have it replace the Unleashed/Colors slide? I’m down for that, otherwise, maybe not…
@Chaoticfox: Exactly! Even that would be nice instead of a silly silde that humans do and not hedgehogs… lol (although he can do both )
