Sonic Comics Should be Part of Initiative
On Wednesday, Archie Comics announced a bold new initiative that should see its entire current catalogue, including future issues of the Sonic comics, distributed digitally.
Beginning in April, comics will be on sale digitally via the Archie iOS apps the same day hard copies hit newsstands. Comic book shops and normal subscribers should continue to receive their copies before the newsstands.
In a statement released by Archie, co-CEO Jon Goldwater said:
It’s our goal to make Archie’s stories and those of his friends available to everyone and anyone that’s interested in his adventures. Digital provides us with the tools to reach out to a whole new readership, and we’re excited and emboldened by the opportunities going day-and-date line-wide presents. This is an exciting day for Archie and the comic book industry.
If you’re a Sonic comic reader, does this move make you more or less likely to purchase new issues through iOS, or do you prefer reading the work the old fashioned way? Tell us below in the comments; we’re certainly seeing new ideas meet up with old favorites.

Well, right now you have to buy issues separately using in app purchase, there are very few that actually sell subscriptions of publications on iOS devices cause Apple has not let publishers access data normally in print magazine subscriptions used for analytic and advertising purposes. We will have to see if Archie will have a subscription option in the future as well for those that only want to get their issues on iOS devices and save some money too.
I hate iOS, but if they brought this sort of thing to other devices (Windows Phone 7, in my case) I’d be on board for sure.

Eh.. I’m quite out of the loop when it comes to apps. I have a phone with texting and pictures, and that’s about it. Can iOS be used on the computer as well? If not, why not just digitally distribute their comics both online and through the app?
I would very much re-subscribe to the Sonic series of Archie Comics if it were distributed conveniently online, but through an app only on a specific phone? Really?
#1. Apple sucks
#2. reading actual comics is the way its always been and the way i hope it always stays!
