Dimps Has Its Work Cut Out for Them
The results of the latest TSSZ News @Issue poll indicate by a ten point margin a majority of participants will stay away from the next episode of Sonic 4 without a key revision to its physics engine.
Out of 1,321 votes, 55 percent stated they would not buy Episode 2 if it did not include any physics changes. In the minority were the 45 percent who said they still would.
For many veteran fans, the change in physics was a constant point of contention within Sonic 4: Episode 1. Some in that group passed judgment on the game solely for that reason, hoping for a closer fit with the Genesis classics. The physics were also the main point of discussion at the Sonic 4 fan feedback session Sega of America held in November.
A new poll is now available to vote on. You can discuss the results of this poll below in our comments area. Please be cognizant of our comments policy while remarking.

i wil buy it anyway!
BTW, I love the new style! good job!
“GAH!” Was the first thing I thought when I saw the knew look.
As for the physics, come on, is it really that unplayable?
*new, what was I thinking?
I’d like to see Aaron Webber comment on this one.
I like The new look it’s awesome.
Ugh, not matter how adamant I am about how much the physics suck, I’m still going to be suckered into buying this, even if it retains the physics. I’m sorry, but there’s no way I’d be able to resist a new Sonic game, no matter its suckage factor. And at the very least, I’d have the right to bitch about why it sucks.
I’d buy it….being a Sonic fan I would buy it then buy it again to show my support for it….even if the physics aren’t “Genesis-Style”….
I couldn’t actually believe this xD
Though I think Sega will give it momentum based physics, they should also be focussing on OTHER aspects of the game too. For example, if Sega just fix the physics, but give it poor level design and bad music, then the game will not be worth buying.
Also, sweet new design TSSZ
cool new style, great job reminds of sonic stadium
it doesn’t matter
TSSZ NEWS new look it’s great hehe…
EP.2 will be in my XBOX360 for damn friggin shure! I love Sonic and Sonic4 brought back memories =D
Would you buy a box of shit if Sega put Sonic and a bunch of forced nostalgia on the cover?
WTF?! Sonic 4 is fun, fast, has SONIC in it, has great platforming and music! Sonic 4: Episode I did have different physics, but they are the same physics that powered the Sonic Rush series. How come nobody brought that up? And anyway, the only things really needed in a 2D Sonic game are speed, platforming and SONIC. People, don’t get so annoyed at the physics – they are no way NEAR as bad as Sonic ’06′s physics, and they DON’T BREAK THE GAME. In fact, I think they were good physics for the type of level design. So, yeah – I really don’t see a flippin’ problem. I’m buying Episode II, physics changes or not, because I am a Sonic fan, and all Sonic fans, including supporters of the Sonic Cycle, will end up buying the game. This poll, in my view, just says that people will try their hardest to not like the game. Geez…
Haters Gonna Hate
I dont get what is so hard for dimps to just change the physics. the ps3, 360 and wii are much more powerful than the genesis (technologically speaking), and it is a major issue, so why is sega so reluctant to change it?
^ And newbie Sonic fans are gonna enjoy Sonic 4 while everyone who is actually a fan of the first three Sonic games and thus know how the physics should feel, will not.
Then 55% will be missing out, sadly.
The first episodes physics ruined it for me so unless they’re fixed I won’t buy it.
I love how the little bitches are apparently the minority. Hell yeah idiots, go ahead and pay for a bad game. We’re not gonna stop you.
But I bet Sega’s gonna feel a little awkward with a small group of faggots begging to suck Sonic’s dick, while the majority of the players just ignore the next Episode.
To be honest, they really need to make the physics a lot better. ‘m not sute that I’m buying episode 2 if hey don’t change it. It kinda ruined a part of the game. It isn’t unplayable. But it could have been alot better!
@ Andre
Somebody ban this faggot. His type is part of the problem.
@Andre
dude chill out…you’re getting so worked up over a game
as for me, I’m an old schooler and I’m still buying the game, physics change or not. That doesn’t mean I’m stuck on Sonic or I’ll buy whatever Sega throws at me…I enjoyed episode 1 and I’m interested where he goes from there. Now I’m not super picky but if they tweak the physics to fit the originals “exactly” then that will definitely be a plus!!
@RavetotheGrave
Yes, because if dedicated fans want more quality put into a Sonic game, they’re automatically “part of the problem”. Fuck quality, we want moar shittyness *end sarcasm*
@Jmack
Dude, chill out…you’re getting so worked up over a comment
@ RavetotheGrave
“Then 55% will be missing out (on SEGA’s idea of what people expect from a game with a name like Sonic the Hedgehog 4–six or seven rehashed Sonic 1, 2, and 3 zones matched with poorly-coded physics and mediocre level design), sadly.”
Fixed it for ya.
Has the True Blue Initiative truly invaded this site? Hilarious stuff I bet Webber is proud of you guys.
@RaveToTheGrave: No… YOU’RE part of the problem. People like you who keep buying the games regardless of quality are what’s slowly turning this franchise into the tumour and laughingstock it is. The excellently stellar Sonic games have been long gone for about 15 years. If this fanbase doesn’t shape up and grow a brain soon, this franchise will have nothing to keep continuing for. Don’t accept mediocrity. IT’S YOUR MONEY GOING TO THIS FRANCHISE. IT IS NOT A GIFT. IT IS NOT A LOVE LETTER TO THIS FANBASE. IT’S MORE MONEY GOING TO LAZY DEVELOPERS. They did not give this to you for free, You pay for it. Demand the best. Don’t pay for more shit! If you truly were fans, you would care about the quality instead of blindly supporting it. If something’s not up to snuff, then you CRITIQUE. Critiquing does not equal bitching, but it does put out what’s right with a piece of art and what could use (in Sega’s developers’ cases) MUCH MORE WORK.
Andre is a choice example of people who support this logic while being as harsh as possible. Just because he’s a dick doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a good point.
(reads comments)
…Yeah…
I’ll just stay out of this discussion.
I voted that I wouldn’t buy it.
Mainly due to the fact that it WASN’T unplayable, It was just underwhelming.
I mean, I had fun with it, but it didn’t last that long.
It was like a rental… that you have forever. :-/
It’s good to know that not everyone will settle for more of the same.
@KrazeeKid102
With all do respect he’s calling people “bitches” and “faggots” and “idiots” and talking about oral sex over a game, a character that’s irrelevant outside of it’s childlike, babyish, selfish and disrespectful fanbase. You don’t have to speak inappropriately or disrespectfully to one another to get your point across, USE YOUR WORDS!!!
Jakeiii hit the nail on the head.
@Krazee:
lol
@krazeeKidd102
you, quit obsessing over Sonic 4 so much… in fact everybody stop. If you don’t like the game you don’t have to play it, any episode you don’t have to play so quit being so ungrateful.
@Matt
and you… just shut up, you’re not gaining anything from “douching” up somebody else’s comment. It’s not fixing, it’s breaking… fanbase breaking… get it? because the Sonic fanbase is broken? LOL!!!
@ Greg The Cat
I’m part of the problem? ScrewAttack themselves said that they predict Sega will quit making Sonic games because whiny ass fanboys like yourself complain on EVERY action they make. Unlike you, I’m smart enough to see what was good about Sonic 4. They said countless times that they physics would be different, why would you go into it thinking they would be the same? The physics are different, that doesn’t make them BAD. Why do you get off your little soapbox and go play the game again, then come back to me.
@ Matt
That’s seriously such a douche comment it doesn’t even deserve a legitimate response.
@RaveToTheGrave: Just because it’s different doesn’t mean it’s good. Matt makes excellent points. You just have low standards.
@RaveToTheGrave
Are you taking requests? If yes then please defend Sonic 2006.
Thanks in advance!
@Andre
I don’t see why Aaron would care about the fact that the majority of a small group of people didn’t like Sonic 4′s physics. If it were a poll on SEGA’s website maybe, but this poll only represents people who:
A) Go on TSSZ
B) Care about it enough to answer a poll on it
@Greg
If you call mine too low, then you’ve got no idea how Sonic games are.
The only thing I can defend on Sonic 06 is that if it were COMPLETED, and had a different ending scene, then it would have been good.
I’m gonna have to agree with Jakeiii and ChaoticFox
Everywhere I go, it’s “Sonic 4 blah blah physics blah blah blah physics blah physics (did I mention physics?),” been there, done that. What about the other stuff? I would definitley perfer the physics to be like in the originals, but that isn’t the only weakness the game has. After all, level design is the most important aspect of a Sonic game, or any platformer for that matter, IMO. The level design needs to be much more platform based, with a good difficulty curve toward later stages, and not so dependant upon a gimmick and automation. Change the physics all you want, any platformer is nothing without good level design. Other things that should be changed include:
-Better and longer music tracks
-More originality; No direct rehashes, every stage needs something to distict from the feel of stages in past sonic games
-Tails and Knuckles playable and co-op
-less steep pricetag
P.S.: I couldn’t give a crap about modern vs. classic design, Eggman vs. Robotnik, green eyes, or 2D vs. 3D sprites
@Greg The Cat
I agree with you 100%..
@ the people saying we will miss out, 55% miss out?? no, those 55% will be playing New Super Mario Brothers 2 instead
Physics takes all the fun out of sonic 4 that WERE the classics..
SEGA are smart people, its the buyers who are dumb enough to give into it u fucking bunch of sheep…
SONIC 06 is a good example of raking in the cash from fools, look at that game? it was meant to be a return??? HMMMM SEGA creates a game Sonic 4, returning to his roots??? HMMM Familiar territory anyone??? u fucking bunch of fools
@Greg the Cat
I just checked out your dA. I love your style, it reminds me me of Alex Pardee of Zero Friends,
I love how butthurt people get. Some of you kids are so silly.
Fix the physics, improve the level design, and more original levels and MAYBE I’ll buy it.
@ChaoticFox
Iknow right
I’m starting to believe I am a masochist. Because in order to come here and respond to this avalanche of idiocy… I mean, you can’t do it and not suffer. Because the stupid, folks, it hurts. It burns, hard.
“I’m part of the problem? ScrewAttack themselves said that they predict Sega will quit making Sonic games because whiny ass fanboys like yourself complain on EVERY action they make. Hey fag, yeah, you are. You know what, it would be BETTER to quit making Sonic games for a while if you just can’t do it right. If you’re an incompetent, stubborn weasel like Iizuka, then yeah it’s actually better to stop and have a look for a while instead. Then you’d have the chance to see what the fans are making, like SFR and S2HD, and go “oh geez, we’d better make something really good because, you know, otherwise it’s gonna be embarassing”.
I seriously wonder what Sonic 4 would be like if its development had started after S2HD was released. That trailer that we have recently seen, can you even compare to Sega’s own trailers? No, you can’t. It’s light-years ahead, and not only for the talent and polish itself, but for what I’ve been repeating here for a long time now: they GET IT. They understand and respect Sonic. The FANS do. SEGA DOESN’T.
So when it’s crystal clear that us, the fans that “bitch” about Sonic 4 GET IT and Sega DOESN’T, it’s pretty logical that those fans would nag Sega and demand more quality. After all, they own the character and they can’t seem to ever get it right.
So I agree with everyone who thinks that it’s not ONLY the physics. It’s EVERYTHING. But this is not actually the point here. The point here is that Aaron said Sega is listening to the fans, they did that feedback session and everyone kept talking about the physics. So if not even the physics are tweaked, then yes, you should boycott it. At least so that they stop lying to our faces.
I work with communication myself. My job is not PR but I know exactly how it works. Do not accept those bullshit tactics. If they ask for a feedback session, if the fanbase is vocal about something, demand it. YOU have the power, YOU control the market. Since consumerism, there’s been a shift in power, from the companies to the customers. USE IT. Everyone uses it, why can’t gamers use it?
The only reason why you’d not use it would be if you simply have very low standards and/or like to be screwed over. Unfortunately I suspect both are the case.
By the way, going back to that other point I raised. Retro fans make amazing stuff like S2HD. You people, larvae fans, make awful furry fanfiction and defend Sonic ’06, even with the “most awkward kiss in the history of videogames”. Ergo, go fuck yourself with a shovel, RaveToTheGrave. You’re dumb enough to be a worthy substitute for Vulpine, something I never even believed to be possible.
Oh and by the way, I forgot about this:
“They said countless times that they physics would be different, why would you go into it thinking they would be the same? The physics are different, that doesn’t make them BAD. Why do you get off your little soapbox and go play the game again, then come back to me.”
They said it COUNTLESS times? Oh yeah? Prove it. Show me ONE example where Sega told someone, prior to the release of the game, that the physics would be different. I challenge you.
Let me tell you something right now: you can’t prove it. Because it never happened. The fans saw the trailer and it looked funny. People speculated then that it was weird. Then the game got LEAKED and the people that played it shouted that the physics sucked. Sega never said anything about physics, let alone “countless times”, you little piece of shit.
If I’m wrong, go ahead and prove me wrong. Otherwise, accept that you’re lying in order to be screwed over. Moron.
Although I couldn’t agree more on Andre’s views, he simply doesn’t need to be such a prick. You’re right, no need to add these quite senseless “you little piece of shit” parts on your argument. It just makes you less reliable in a discussion.
But now, even though the game is completely wrong in every sense, the physics would ruin them if they were good in the first place. I mean, the level design could be Sonic CD-like and the fact that you can glue yourself to a looping would still make a weird piece of crap of it. It is not unplayable, but I can’t say it’s playable as well. And we want the best, don’t we? It amuses me that “”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"true”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"” fans say that we should quit complaining and Sonic is never going back to its roots, as if this could be any mockery. Face it, we want the best for Sonic even more than a relief for our nostalgia. The only formula that we have seen work out right was the one applied in the classic games, so why in the world not reuse it?
