Yuji Naka’s Next Project Reaching for the Sky
If this isn’t the de facto follow-up to NiGHTS, it should be.
Early Monday, the first glimpse of Prope and Kadokawa Games’s Rodea the Sky Soldier surfaced in the form of a lengthy trailer. The trailer shows off environments, character development, interaction, and in-game action for, we believe, the Nintendo Wii. The game is being produced for both it and the upcoming Nintendo 3DS.
The appears to be a bit of a backstory with Rodea, as Ion and Cecilia join as likely supporting characters. But anyone who doesn’t feel a certain NiGHTS vibe from this is, frankly, nuts.
Take a look below. Again, it’s way too early to know if this will come to domestic shores, but we’ll tabs as development progresses.

This game really looks like it can catch on to the U.S. Story wise and game wise. It also looks like its another franchise that Naka san is gonna be known for besides Sonic.
Wow, I’ve gotta get is and Kid Icarus
I’d play this in a heartbeat if it were released on a console I already have, but I still wouldn’t buy a 3DS for it
Color me retarded, I didn’t even notice it was coming out for the Wii as well :X
A shame about how anime it looks
Whoh! this looks fun! Its like a nights/sin and punishment type of game!
This looks interesting it’s almost like Sonic has a new half-brother in terms of creators. Yuji Naka and Sega made Sonic now Yuji Naka and Prope made this guy.
They really need to bring NiGHTS back. They made a game in 2007 for the Wii, but that was just ridiculous compared to the original, and not one game has been released since.
Now this is impressive! This is something I will surely buy! For the Wii and DS.
Say, I know this game is not being made under Sega, but the guy in charge of the ones making this game, as well as the one in charge of this game, is Yuji Naka, who, needless to say, is one of the big three who was responsible for creating Sonic the Hedgehog, with Naka himself perhaps being the most recognized of the three. I forgot the names of the other two.
Still, he was a big part of creating Sonic, who was created to help Sega compete with Nintendo and their mascot, Mario back in the 90s.
That said, how much do you guys wanna bet that the Nintendo fans are, with one of Sonic’s creators making this game, call this a rip off of Kid Icarus: Uprising?
This looks…pretty awesome!
looks awesome! ( °٢° )
but i’d rather get this for the 3ds because it’ll probably be exactly the same, maybe even with better graphics than the wii. plus i’ll be able to take it anywhere with me AND it’ll probably have a really cool 3d effect. ಥ‿ಥ
Holy crap…
this game…
…
…..is definitely going into my list of “I WANT”.
I dunno for which console but heck! Both is fine!
Sure it has some similarities…well…ok…not some…
but gameplay has this familiar vibe… hm…I dunno….
NiGHTS perhaps? Maybe I’m crazy. [/ sarcasm]
But I hope this is a start of this new game, as in making it into a full out franchise.
This game may at least help us recover from NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams… now that game needs work.
Now I’m interested.
OMG kadokawa made suzumiya haruhi no gekidou (the excitement of haruhi suzumiya) for the wii! It is such a good detailed dancing game, I live it. This will be an amazing game but I really hope it gets released in the US…it looks like one of those japan only games. PLEASE COME TO USA!
Well, I hope it’s coming to the U.S. because I’m interested to see how this plays out.
This looks pretty awesome. I’m putting this on my list of 3DS games must haves along with Kingdom Hearts 3D, Kid Icarus, and Street Fighter IV 3D, among others.
Also, @Dr.Eggfang, it’s Japan. You seriously didn’t expect some kind of anime-esque art style? I’m not trying to put you down or anything, I’m just saying.
Hopefully the controls will be eaiser then NiGHTS 2′s
I get a Sonic vibe what with the dash pads and camera angles.
Still getting aroused by this shit people? These guys had 20 years to make all this shit and instead they got hung up on the juvenile sonic series. If Naka had been willing to come to terms with reality, he would probably have been churning out shit like this in 2003 or something.
