Check-erboard, and Mate
Our longtime readers may remember back in February when we showed a Sonic chess set as part of the blue branded roster at the 2010 International Toy Trade Fair.
We hadn’t seen much of the set since, until today, when a copy of it from Europe popped up on EBay.
The chess set includes 32 figurines that act as board pieces, all on a Green Hill tailored board. The figurines themselves are plastic, and the board measures 18 inches by 18 inches.
The Missouri based seller is asking for $74.99 plus shipping for the set. There was a fair bit of interest when we first showed it off, so if you have some extra cash and care for games outside the TV screen, this may be the time to buy.

How could they not use Dr, Eggman on the opposing side. I mean his entire strategy is based on a chess game. He has egg pawns, he is the king, and there is always his other creations metal sonic and silver sonic would have looked great on a chess board. Oh well, this is still cool.
Surprising to see so little character variety. I’ve seen more characters in a single GAME before. lol

That’s admittedly pretty cool – and definitely something I’d want to get – but seventy five dollars for a chess set with plastic pieces is a bit ridiculous to me.
If you (general use, not directly aimed at anyone) haven’t seen/heard much of this, then you haven’t been scouring eBay/Europe-based stores. They’re everywhere for roughly a $45 price tag before shipping. I’ve been seeing these on sale since about Spring/Summer of last year.
Wouldn’t you get confused, since both sets are like the same color?

Look at the base of the figures. They are light and dark brown, just like the squares on the board.
