Is it as Good In Motion as It Is In Pictures?
For the first time in quite a while, the team behind 3D fan game project Ashura: Dark Reign released some video of the work in action. It happened late Sunday night, and it’s available for your viewing pleasure below.
With the good comes some concern, and it’s a glaring problem: The frame rate. It could simply be how the movie was assembled, but no environment is too beautiful to sacrifice a constant frame rate for it, and the A:DR footage suffers exactly that anomaly. If this is indeed how the game plays, it will be a big problem in the eyes of fans, considering all the development time.
There was other media released, including a couple screenshots detailing Sonic’s idle animation for the game. That’s also below, following the video. Watch and comment in the discussion area. Thanks to Azukara for sending this in. If you have news to share, be sure to share it with us by clicking News Tips at the top of every page.

In my personal opinion I would rather play the game to make my own determinations. I can’t wait to see what’s it’s like.
Duke Nukem Forever might actually come out before this does.
As much as I liked what I saw, shouldn’t Sonic’s legs be moving a lot faster when he’s moving at top speed? Other than that, the side scrolling sections look awesome. >w<
Frame Rate in game is very good.
It looks like it has an issue due to the video capture software running at the same time as the game along with the fact the map is NOT fully optimized.
Also Sonics running animation looking like hes doing the moonwalk/not running fast enough is not down to the animation itself but due to the Acceleration/Deceleration code which is still currently being worked on.
It’s too bad… the environments here look so absolutely stunning and professional, and yet the Sonic model still looks, moves, and animates like something from just another shitty generic fangame.
I’ll probably still try this out if it’s ever released, but God damn does Sonic clash with everything else.
That looks incredible! I love the way they took the concept from Sonic Unleashed/Colours! And the graphics – TOTAL EYEGASM! WOOT ;D
This doesn’t look bad, but honestly it looked better in the past. It might be because there seems to be wayyyy too much 2.5D going on here. Also Sonic looks really bright and pale compared to the rest of the environment.
Hmm… video.
Erm, remember Fraps/whatever lowers framerate noticeably.
Well, this looks good, but despite the graphics and gameplay shown, I am not too impressed. Still looks good.
I am interested in the level theme of the first level shown in the video. Still, I somehow have a hard time figuring out what the theme of the first in-video level is supposed to be. Can anyone help me out some? I want to know because, well, I seem to have an interest in level themes of Sonic games.
wow awesome!! but sonic looks like hes doing a forward moonwalk lol? yeah something like that. its pretty cool he based the levels on unleashed and mixed it all with some few elements of the old games like spindashes, etc.
It looks a little grainy, but more work should do the trick!
