Bayonetta, Sonic Colors Help Propel Company to Top 10

If you live and die by reviews–and you shouldn’t–and even if you don’t, you’ll be happy to know Sega was among the top 10 publishers of 2010, as determined by aggregate site Metacritic.

Sega came in 9th out of a list of top 13, with an average rank of 67.4 across games released last year.  That doesn’t sound impressive, but consider the top developer Take-Two Interactive only averaged less than 10 points higher at 77.1.  Sega stayed above water in part due to high scores given to Bayonetta, released earlier in the year, as well as positive fan reaction to Sonic Colors.  Metacritic cited an 8.4 out of 10 rank given to Colors among participating fans on the website.  Iron Man 2 and not a Sonic title dragged down the average with a 41 score–though Sonic Free Riders wasn’t that far ahead.

Sega beat out other big names on the lists like Bandai Namco, THQ, and Ubisoft.
