Damizean Assures Port to New Engine Continues Smoothly
We may have our first delay stemming from recent changes made to Sonic Fan Remix. A previous target of February for the next demo looks less likely to occur, now that scener Damizean continues to port the project over to his proprietary Egg Engine.
It’s that the progress is only recent, according to Damizean speaking on Sonic Retro last week, that may cause the delay:
Progress on the engine has been non-existant during the past month due to exams period, so we probably wont meet the February deadline for showing off the next zone. However, now that I have some free time, I’m going to work hard on make progress on the engine.
In the week since, progress has been fairly significant, as he explains in a post dated yesterday:
The engine basics are complete so far (I’ve been working hard on the engine’s backend mostly), plus a couple more features that were missing at the other demo (moving and rotating platforms). I’ve had a hard time deciding on the design of the classes and data structures, but I think I have it sorted out with a system that allows me to add interactive objects, states and effects easily.
The extra time appears to be well worth it, in terms of modeling the engine closer to actual Sonic fare. We’ll let you know exactly when you’ll get a second taste of Sonic Fan Remix as new information comes in.

Neat. All the luck to Damizean on this project!
Glad to hear this project is still going strong!
Cool.
I really loved how the first engine played, this Egg Engine is made by the guy who made Sonic Blitz which controls terribly and spawned countless terrible youtube videos.
@Sonical
Yeah, sorry about that, it wasn’t my intention.
Sonical: I admit I’m a bit skeptical of the Egg Engine as well. We had a story about the engine test last year, including video. It feeled a bit LittleBigPlanet to me.
That said, unlike a couple of the other SFGs we’ve covered here, I give the current team credit for affording some more transparency, and taking relevant feedback into account. Granted, I’m also starting to notice the feedback’s getting to Sonic 4 levels, too. Meh.

Couple of things:
Firstly that Egg Engine video from last year was actually using Blitz Basic as it’s graphics engine. The new one uses Unity just the same as the existing version of SFR. Second, the whole “Egg Engine” thing is referring to the Sonic gameplay and physics. Remember Unity itself is the actual game engine that’s being used here.
Damizean’s a pretty modest guy, but I’m confident that he can meet and even exceed the standard of what’s in SFR so far. It’s all just down to how much time he has available for this which is the crux of every hobby.
Get that guy help then! He shouldnt have to do all that alone…
