Late Ballot Tampering Can’t Overpower Clear Majority
The results of the latest TSSZ News @Issue poll indicate a clear majority of Sonic fans won’t leave big blue behind–even if Sega finds a way to malign the hedgehog’s 20th anniversary.
We asked if you would leave fandom should Sega pull that off. Out of 892 votes, 79 percent indicated Yes, while 21 percent indicated No.
More observant TSSZ News readers were quick to point out someone or ones tamped with the poll result late Thursday night into Friday morning, affording a large swath of votes at once. A majority of those votes went in the Yes column, with some added to No as a way to throw suspicion off. The poll was able to be reset close to where it was Thursday night, although a few legitimate votes may have been lost. Still, voting through the weekend was consistent with the near 80/20 split. To prevent this in the future, we’ve installed a new poll system that affords detailed IP tracking and the opportunity to immediately throw out votes that look suspicious.
A new poll is now available for you to vote on.

They won’t blow it, and even if they do I think that after a decade the fanbase should be used to it by now. Plus The next poll is going to be overflown with “NO”, it’s pretty obvious.
Oh what a surprise. I think anyone that’s still fan enough to be hanging out on TSSZ after all the shit the series has gone through up to this point, they’re probably not gonna be put off by a measly botched anniversary.
Every poll for the last few months has been the same thing just reworded, I shouldn’t even with to clarify this just look at a list of them. Just sick of it. What happened to you being sick of it T?

Some of us are just merely biding our time until the IP becomes ours to play with
It’s a fair point, Sonical. And you’re right–the current poll is similar to the one two polls ago. Similar, but different. I do like to see how opinion changes over time. Also consider that until we get something concrete on whatever’s planned for this year, there isn’t a whole lot to speak of.
That said, I do think it’s important to revisit the topic because, regardless of my personal thoughts on the game’s physics, it is something that has stuck and will be a key barometer of how people will judge Episode 2.

The new poll is basically just “did you like Sonic 4?” with a little extra leeway.
Not necessarily; as I’ve said before, there were other things to not like about Sonic 4.
Think of it in this frame of mind: Assume the physics complaints are valid, but were they amplified in the community to a level where it was too much?
-T
I get what you think you’re getting at, Tristan, but the votes are inevitably going to play out in line with the way I phrased it.
Like I said, there’s a little extra leeway for the handful of people who may have hated the game but not the physics, or those who loved the game despite hating the physics… but it’s still going to wind up being treated as nothing more than a petty popularity contest.
Next poll:
Were press complaints about community complaints about Sonic 4: Episode I’s physics overblown?

Let me put it this way: If we’re all here after Sonic’s 15 anniversary, we should be alright. Although SEGA has no excuse to screw up this time: They finally have a working formula with Colors. Tighten the controls a bit, lengthen the game more, throw in a new gimmick akin to the Wisps, and we’re all set.
“Were community complaints about Sonic 4: Episode I’s physics overblown?”
XD Silly Tristan, must you need to be told the correct answer over and over again. Alright, I’m about to say it again. Are you listening? Good. *ahem* *takes a deep breath*
“NO!”
Thank you for understanding.
Why do people worry so much about SEGA messing up this time?!?!? It’s been 5 years and alot has changed from Sonic 06 to Sonic Colors! They won’t screw it up! Sonic Unleashed was the beginning of it all with the Day Time half of the game! This is the year that Sonic comes back fully! There’s 4 games this year; Sonic 20th Anniversary, Sonic 3DS, Mario and Sonic 3, and Sonic 4 Episode 2. You guys need to put the past behind you, move on with life. Yes Sonic 06 crashed the 15th anniversary BUT this is the 20th Anniversary! Its extra special!
Psh like I’m going to leave the fandom just because of Sonic having a bad day.
@Sonicoffice
Well, gee, it’s hard to put the past behind us, when the same shit that happened five years ago is STILL happening today. Of course, not as exponentially terrible as Sonic 06 and Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis did in 2006, but still it’s the same shit.
Sonic 06 wasn’t ready to be released, but they released it as it was after hyping the living crap out of it to make a lot of profit from Sonic fans who would buy the game because it’s Sonic on the front cover.
Guess what? That’s what happening now. Most Sonic games now are being A: Released with a lack of polish to controls and gameplay. B: Released based off of a terrible concept C: Both. Sonic and the Black Knight was a complete wagglefest to the finish line (no platforming, literally just hold forward and jump every now and then) and the controls were unresponsive half of the time. I laugh at Secret Rings, with the horrendous control scheme in dangerous, obstacle-filled environments with bland graphics. In some parts, it’s almost unplayable; It’s like they didn’t even bother to beta-test the damn game. While I personally enjoyed Unleashed, the Werehog sections were long, clunky, and downright unneccesary.
Probably the biggest example is Sonic 4: Episode 1. Literally everything about the game screams subpar, from the rehashed content like levels, badniks, and bosses to the straightforward level design complimented by a ton of speed boosters (did you know that you can get through Casino Street Act 2 by only pressing the jump button over and over again?), and finally the bad physics that present absolutely no momentum whatsoever. It’s a complete mismatch between the classic games and the Rush games, both of them I like, but I don’t like Sonic 4.
Hell, it’s even marketed the same way. They spend so much money into making a birthday contest and making trailer after trailer calling it “the sequel that fans have waited 16 years for” that they forget about actually making the game better. The True Blue Initiative was the most shameful act of any videogame company to make profit by begging for money from fans dumb enough to buy copies of the same game. The apologetics keep on saying “It’s only Episode 1″ and “Episode 2 will be better. They heard our feedback.”
The good games that came out since Sonic 06 (Sonic Rush Adventure, SASASR, and Sonic Colors Wii and DS) were born from a good concept AND good development cycle. Sonic Team didn’t need to hype it, because they put their time and effort into the project, something they should do for EVERY game they produce. However, while they are producing gold mines like Sonic Colors, they’re still shitting out mediocre titles like Sonic 4 from their corporate anus, and it’s that shit that gets the most hype and attention.
So, I ask you: How are we supposed to “get over the past” when they are doing the same shit they have done 5 years ago? As far as I know, given their way of handling business with the franchise, hoping a Sonic game to be good is like trying to win the freaking lottery, and with at least 2-3 Sonic titles (I predict it will be Sonic Adventure 3, Sonic Rush 3DS, and Sonic 4: Episode 2) coming out in a year celebrating 20 years of Sonic the Hedgehog, luck is sadly not on our side.
Word up, Krazee
Yep, word up Krazee. *brofist*

Hm, I guess that’s nice. Come to think of it, the only Sonic games in recent memory that I actually hate are Sonic 2006 and SATBK. The others, I either love, like or have a neutral opinion towards.

I guess this goes to show that different people want different things in a Sonic game. Having never played Sonic 4, and only just now starting to play Sonic Classic Collection for the DS, I can’t really comment, except to say one thing: so far, Sonic 1 is LOADS of fun, even if I DO keep falling into Marble Zone’s blasted lava pools.
What are “broken physics,” anyway? I mean, if there was a real life humanoid hedgehog that was built like Sonic, and it went at speeds like Sonic does, I can’t imagine that the laws of physics would be very kind to its well-being. I mean, even cheetahs can’t run too fast — or for too much time — without (in theory) fatally overheating. I understand how video games need a “suspension of disbelief,” but please remember that ultimately, it’s a fantasy world, and the rules are made to be pushed until they break.
Note that I’m not speaking in favor of OR in opposition of Sonic 4′s physics, since I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE LIKE AND PROUDLY ADMIT IT. I wear that as a badge of honor, because doing so means that no one can complain that I’m only pretending to know what I’m talking about — because, obviously, I don’t.
If Sonic’s 20th sucks then it sucks I’m okay with it it’ll take alot more to make me stop being a fan of the blue dude with ‘tude besides I took Sonic 06 pretty well thought I admit the only good thing was the Silver stages & the Team Amigo Attack DLC in my opinion anyways
@krazeeKidd102
SatBK did have (a handful of) platforming sections & branching paths, it was just really annoying a lot of time because of the controls. You’re totally right about everything else though.
This new poll needs a ‘Yes, but it was justified’ and a ‘Not Really/Kinda/Maybe’ option.
@Kate Vunza
Slopes defined Sonic level design in the ’90s, and they still do in Sonic 4. In order to make slopes work properly in 2D, there has to be a proper physics engine. Should said engine exist, speeding down slopes and hills is a blast. Should said engine be absent, there’s absolutely no reward for clearing slopes and hills. The physics in Sonic 4 are almost nonexistent, and because of it, the series loses its trademark sense of speed and thrill.
I liked the 15th aniversary, so I think I’ll be fine.
*waits*
Hmph, 79% said they would leave Sonic huh? Some fans… BUT Sega, don’t get confused from this poll, you have to read between the lines… It says that 79% said they’d leave Sonic if they don’t like to 20th anniversary, while 29% said they won’t leave, BUT that’s only out of a total of 892 fans! Not all of them! That’s only 892 out of the MILLIONS.
Sonic The Hedgehog IS THE BEST CHARACTER EVER!
