And It Teases the Death of a Prominent Character
Commemorating something as huge as Sonic’s 20th anniversary means all facets of the game’s merchandising get to go all out.
That includes the Archie comics, which will afford an alternate version of issue 225, in addition to the one previously seen. The big difference between that and this is that, according to early artwork furnished to IGN, this includes the lifeless hand of a “major character.”
Some fans are speculating that character could be someone in the St. John family, which given the current legal spat between Geoffrey’s creator Ken Penders and the mothership, makes sense. All we know for now is it’s a characters that doesn’t don gloves. Who do you think it is? Take a look at the cover below, and speculate away in the comments section.

Countdown to Genesis? Uh, am I the only one thinking that there’s gonna be a series re-boot? Or is Spider-Man gonna be the only one to do that to us with a crap filled restart?

@Sonic: Amy wears gloves, AND she’s a semi-major game character. That pretty much rules her out.
James, Genesis is clearly revealed to be a saga based on the classic “Death Egg Saga” (with the appearance of the Death Egg in the normal cover). Its not a reboot at all, just an adaption to the stor(ies) of the original genesis games.
@UltimaHedgie: There already was a Death Egg Saga mini series though back in the 90s. This is something else. As for a character that dies, well judging from Sonic’s expression and the hand I don’t think Sally is a bad guess. I wonder if she’ll actually die this time though, unlike the old End Game Saga where she kinda fell into a coma.

I think “Genesis” means this is only the first in a series of changes we will see in the comics as a way of tying in closer to the games. One thing’s for sure though, it probably isn’t a character that is featured in the games. I never really had much of attachment to Sally (although she’s much better written than Amy), but I know there will be alot of angry fans if it does turn out to be her. At this point all of the glove-less Archie characters are fair game. Even though I enjoy the Archie characters and original storylines, I always preferred the comic when it tried to tie in with games that way it seemed like a cohesive universe. Hopefully this is just a way of doing just that and not just another senseless character death.

It could also be, Antoine, Elias, Amaudus, and maybe Geoffrey! Geoffrey is currently not wearing gloves in the comics, and his left hand is white.

She was supposed to be killed off years ago in the Endgame miniseries, but SEGA didn’t allow it. Maybe now, after SatAM has been gone for so many years, SEGA is more willing to allow it..
Though I wouldn’t mind seeing Geoffrey bite it either..

I think Sonic’s expression is suited for Fiona seeing as they previously dated. If that was Sally on the ground, I imagine his face to be more in shock and anguish.

It can’t be Sally because she was shown in sketches for the GENESIS story, and this isn’t GENESIS yet. 226 will be GENESIS, soooo yeah.

Odds are that it’s Geoffry; Sally seems HIGHLY unlikely since she’s on a later cover; Fiona, I personally think that she’ll be killed eventually, but she wouldn’t fit in here from what we know at the moment. The legal spat and his recent reapperance make Geoffry all the most likely.

Storm, I agree that in some circumstances they did tone down a lot of the expressions that were used in previous comics… especially no. 175 in the Archie Adventure Series (kind of an old reference, but did you see his face?)!
To Tatiana, Espio has been dead since before the 30 Years Later series began, or at least as far as I know of him… but as far as I know he was dead since Bunnie and Antoine were married!
