PS Plus Users to Get Titles Early, No Charge
There are some more details on the re-release of the 1991 Sonic first reported a couple weeks ago. For one, Sonic 2 won’t be far behind, presumably with the same Trophy enhancements for Sony’s Playstation Network.
Regular users of the PSN will have to pay $4.99 for both, and the same price for any number of other Sega titles also being rolled out the next several months on the system. This, according to Sony’s announcement today that the Sega Genesis Collection will be released incrementally through the Spring and Summer months.
But Sonic 1 and 2 users will be the first released, and subscribers to the Playstation Plus series can download them for free, first. Sonic 1 will be available free of charge for users beginning March 1st through April 5th. Sonic 2 will soon follow, available from April 5 through May 3. Release dates for commoners are March 29th and April 19th, respectively.
Other titles to be rolled out under the collection include Streets of Rage 2, Comix Zone, and Golden Axe 2.

I seriously think Sonic 1 has probably seen more re-releases than any other game in history. Good God, Sega.
Buying each game separately: $30 (6 games)
Sonic’ Ultimate Genesis Collection: $20 (40+ games including the 6 listed)
yeah…
Now to wait for Sonic 3&K.
@ChaoticFox
I think Rayman 2 is right behind it.
50 years from now SEGA will continue to release these games!
@Shawn Smith:
I thought for a moment it is, but then… it had more versions from the very beginning. See:
PC/N64.
The PS1 one, which was actually quite different game (go play both).
The DC one which was actually same as PC/N64, but it was still fresh enough to not count as re-release.
The PS2 one, which remixed the PS1 one in to something… different.
(Not even talking about GBC one. Think about S1 SMS here.)
So far there was no R2 for Java phones, Sega Saturn, GBA, Steam (and that’s actually weird), Wii, GC, first Xbox; and the Dreamcast could count as part of original release.
Only platform on which there is R2 and there is no S1, is, on the other hand, 3DS.
So even if you count normal R2 and the PS1 one (which is also the PSN one) as one game, it’s still far behind as long as I know. On the other hand, both R2 and S1 should get sequels instead of re-releases.
$5 for a rom?
Nobody could possibly be that stupid. Then again people did pay $15 for Sonic 4.
@Mike
Some people like supporting developers that offer a legal way to download their games.
Stealing for FREE? Nobody could possibly be that stupid.
See what I did there? =]
I am so bored of hearing that these games are being re-released. Sega should make a deal so that future console come with Sonic 1 and 2 straight out the bloody box.
