In Case You Didn’t Own the Googolplex of Other Re-Releases
From the department of Why? comes another round of re-releases from Sega that ultimately serves as a re-release of several re-releases.
Dubbed the Sega Genesis Classic Collection Gold Edition–replace with Mega Drive as needed depending on where you live–it will include the 46 titles released across four volumes of the past collections. That includes Sonic 1, 2, the combined Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic Spinball, and the Genesis port of Sonic 3D Blast. There is far more to play, detailed in the list below.
The Gold Edition will be available for PC on a physical disc, starting March 15th. Rehashing the catalogue seems to be the new normal for Sega, though to their credit, it is doing well for the games division financially. Sega may very well run out of names to call these compilations first, before running out of the rehashes themselves.
The collection includes:

Hey Sega, how bout you take one of those franchises and try making a current gen game out of it. Keep it cartoony though. Realism didn’t work for Golden Axe and it certainly didn’t work for Sonic.
Coming soon… SEGA Genesis (Mega Drive) Ultimate Hyper Ultra Platinum Edition X. Featuring all you favorite classics but in a shiny box. XD
But in all seriousness whatever brings the money in i suppose.
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at how sad this is…
OH MY GOD, STOP.
Hey, this one has Toe Jam & Earl. Aside from that there’s no reason to re-release all this stuff so much, but I don’t really care… I mean it’s their company.
@Mike
I beg to differ…
So they’re making a ton of money off of this. Hey, if it weren’t for Sonic Classic Collection for DS, I probably wouldn’t even PLAY the Genesis games. (My brother has the collection for GameCube, but I greatly prefer the DS version because it has a Save feature. Yay for save features!)
@Mike
Hell, I’d definitely pay boatloads for a new Comix Zone. You don’t even know.
Aren’t literally all of these already on Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection?
Completely unnecessary. Sega is really desperate for money now aren’t they?
And I would see some extra games (as add-ons) made available for Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection. For example – Shinboi (I think that’s how you spell it) 1 AND 2, and (for the PS3 ver. only) an add-on that actually lets Sonic and Knuckles add-on to Sonic 3/2/1 9for BLue Sphere).
What do you expect. Sega is just a bunch of unimaginative, money-hungrysleazes who get a living by thinking up more ways to market crap to people. They’ve been doing this all their lives. To them sonic was just a static solution to their competiotn w/ nintendo , and so they kept it static for 20 yrs. It’s about time for these suckers to go bankrupt or something, they just can’t make good shit.
