Screenshots, Sega’s Announcement, and Some Windows 7 Phone Confusion Inside
Looks like that rumor was true; Sega’s big mobile racing reveal for this week is Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing for iOS enabled devices, at least.
The press release Sega has below confirms ASR is coming to the iPhone and iPod Touch. It will presumably be available for iPad as well, just without enhancements specific to that device a la ChuChu Rocket! Sega’s release only indicates those systems, but there is some conflicting information on whether it may also be on the way for Windows Phone 7 devices. Some of Sega’s own press listings indicated such a port, but it’s nowhere to be seen in the formal release. We’ll chalk it up as an error for now, but be on the lookout just in case.
Here’s what we do know: the game will be local multiplayer enabled via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It doesn’t appear that the whole roster from its console counterpart will make the cut, but so far Sonic, AiAi, Dr. Eggman, Tails, Billy Hatcher, Ryo Hazuki, and Beat are in screenshots. No price points were disclosed. What isn’t clear is whether this is officially the first of the two of three Sonic related announcements Sega’s Alan Pritchard alluded to a couple months back. If it is, it may prove unsettling for some fans hoping for more.
Those screenshots are in the gallery below courtesy of Russian Sonic scener Woun, after the release. We’ll be sure to follow up with more once made available. Thanks to everyone else who utilized the News Tips system and kept us informed.

Yes!!!!!!!!!
Looks so ugly they aren’t taking advantage of power of the iPhone 4 at all, the screenshots aren’t even in it’s 960×640 resolution! For comparison
You forgot Opa Opa.
Yeah port SASAR to iOS but ignore porting Sonic Colors to HD consoles WTF SEGA
@Jak
*facepalm* stop say that!!!
What’s next? Airport version?
Actually, I take that back, it’s the ChuChu Rocket guys, not Opa Opa.
How exactly would a HD Sonic Colors do anything but piss off a lot of people? If it’s just a straight port with HD graphics, buyers are going to be pissed at not having any extras. If it has extras, Wii owners are going to be pissed about not getting those extras.
Sonic Colors being ported to an HD console would only further fragment the already delicate state of the Sonic fandom.
So yeah, ASR is Sega’s answer to Mario Kart now, apparently. The possibility of a sequel is growing by the day!
Ninetails2000: I for one would double dip for an HD port, even without extras. But that’s just me.

@Ninetails2000
Is this sarcasm or vague ramblings of a console warrior? Sega has been in the business of repackaging the same game with little to few extras for years.
I think Pritchard cheated us… Three Big announcements…
Snopping as usual I See…
*sigh*
More releases for mobile devices…seriously, am I missing something? Because I don’t understand what groundbreaking achievement SEGA will accomplish from this.
…..unless Sonic 1 for the PSN, Sonic 4 for Windows Phone, and SASASR for iOS devices actually count in “at least two or three announcements in the early calendar of next year”, in which I support. I’d rather have a bunch of re-releases on Sonic’s 20th Anniversary and ONE new title than at least three new titles being rushed for the anniversary.
Hypotheticly, wouldent sonic 4 on the windows phone count as one of those announcements too? I really hope these wern’ t the announcenents pritchard was talking about. Also, Tristan, you were right on the money with that prediction!
@KrazeeKidd: sonic 2′s coming to psn too so that would actually make 4 announcements.
@Ninetails2000
you know how many HD console owners want to play Sonic Colors HD? and no I do not care about extras yeah they would be nice but I just want to play the game, it deserves an HD version.
Sounds good! I have never had the chance to play it yet, and I will definately get this version.

“The mobile edition of this speedy title will include all the familiar faces and events players have enjoyed on other platforms” – SEGA
Is it just me or do they contradict one another?
I dont want a sonic colors port, i didnt think it was that great anyway, i liked the other sonic games just fine thank you! Sonic colors had great graphics stand alone anywho.
SO, i will buy this, i enjoy having a portable version of sonic 4 and a full capacity version on the xbox, im sure ill feel the same way, but come on… I WANT CRAZY TAXI PLAYABLE!
@Ninetails2000 :
Overreaction of the century. Most everyone I’ve talked to said they’d gladly get an HD port of the game with little-to-no-extras (besides, who even specified extras when mentioning an HD port?). I know I’d gladly double-dip as well.

Hello, the rest of the world to Sega
