Will a Merger of the Minds Bring Dormant Project Back to Life?
The hotly anticipated fan project that went into hiding allegedly due to our coverage on it appears to be back.
What we once knew as Sonic Nexus has become Retro Sonic Nexus, and one of the key brains behind it, now executive producer Christian Whitehead, talked about it today on Sonic Retro.
“At the start of 2010, It was decided that Sonic Nexus would be dissolved into Retro-Sonic XG, thus forming Retro-Sonic Nexus,” Whitehead said. “What does this mean? The best levels of all 3 games were picked, and redone to match the XG aesthetic. The title-screen was modified to reflect the name change and while the game story was tweaked, the bulk of it revolves around the events of XG.”
All this is well and good unless it leads down the same road of broken promises that Sonic Nexus once did. Many will remember build-ups by staffers to demo releases around the time of SAGE the last two years, only to come up empty handed. So, other than hinting at a possible release later in the year, Whitehead did not want to speak on when we could see the combined product next, inferring a lot of it depends on follower input.
“Do you guys really care enough about it to warrant it being finished?” Whitehead said.
Overwhelmingly so, if reaction to Whitehead’s words are any indication. So, we might have something to look forward to in the future, though how far in the future remains anyone’s guess. Whitehead says he isn’t working on RSN right now due to his commercial endeavors. Thanks to RGamer2009 for sending this in. “I don’t really like to talk about it because it just results in a news topic where the game gets picked on because of the pointless grudge between Tristan and Brad”
Can’t say I can blame him!
“Do you guys really care enough about it to warrant it being finished?”
I do. Sonic XG is my favorite fangame and the only demo that i still have on my PC to this day.
Holding out for Retro Sonic Nexus Robo Blast 2: Time Attacked.
Tristan, you just did exactly what he didn’t want to happen.
Oh come on, it wasn’t snarky.
If Whitehead has truly taken over the reigns of this project, I can support that. He has the technical know-how (he’s proven that with the Retro Engine) and he’s down to earth with a level head, so he’s not going to make grandiose promises that can’t be kept.
If RSN is the new normal, I look forward to future coverage, as long as it doesn’t drag out too too long.

Thanks for keeping things civil. I’ve put up a blog http://rsonic.christianwhitehead.com if people are interested. I’m working full pace on other things right now, but I still have some interesting things I can put on the blog in the meantime until I have time to go back and attempt to finish this game off.
Good stuff Tax. I’m pretty excited. Presumably, we’ll start hearing more about this in the summer.
This is terrible news. Sonic Nexus was far superior to the crap that was shoveled out onto the sidewalk, and given the title “Sonic XG”. The artstyle is atrocious. Frankly, I can’t see why so many people are creaming their pants over it.
How complete is the game right now? 10-15%? I’ll wait if need be.
Great to hear this is back. I did visit the blog back in march, and was pleased to know it wasn’t completely dead.
The link to the blog no longer works, and unfortunately, I cannot find the topic on Sonic Retro anymore.
Is this project completely dead, or just haulted at the moment???
