Sonic Classic released

Sonic Classic released

by March 18, 2011

But you might want to wait…

After more than a month of “it’s coming this weekend” promises from Hez, Sonic Classic has finally released. Clocking in at a hefty 136mb, the game represents one of the largest, most feature-complete fangame releases, standing next to SFG titans like Sonic Robo-Blast 2 and Jamie Bailey’s Sonic Time Attacked. With eight mammoth zones, a variety of bonus stages, tons of secrets, and as always, seven Chaos Emeralds, Sonic Classic is of roughly the same size and length you’d get out of a real, official Sonic game.

You may want to hold off, though. Hez has stated plans are already in the works for an updated “REV 01” release of Sonic Classic sometime in the future, and reports are coming in from the official Sonic Retro IRC channel #fangames of numerous hiccups, including display problems and the game sometimes refusing to save its progress. For those of you who want to brave these bugs anyway, hit up the release thread at Sonic Retro, and be sure to let Hez know of any abnormalities you might encounter.
