Videogame music hub tackles Sonic 1 remix album
First, there was Hedgehog Heaven. Then there was Project Chaos. Now, in the latest in a long line of videogame remix albums comes “The Sound of Speed”, OCR’s Sonic the Hedgehog 1 remix album. They put out a snazzy teaser video a little bit ago – which serves as a preview for a handful of the album’s 13 tracks:

Overclocked ReMix has been one of the central hubs for videogame music culture for more than a decade. OCR originally began as a spin-off of Overclocked.com, a 3D CGI webcomic about videogames and emulation. As OCR’s popularity grew, it eventually took over Overclocked.com, becoming the site’s premiere attraction. Today, it hosts more than 2,000 videogame remixes from 500 remixers. In 2003, OCR released their first-ever ReMix Album “Relics of the Chozo”, based around the music of Super Metroid. OCR’s ReMix Albums would become so popular that the musicians of OCR were chosen to score the official soundtrack for the Xbox Live Arcade and PSN release of Super Street Fighter II HD Remix. “The Sound of Speed” marks OCR’s 25th total ReMix Album.
Currently “The Sound of Speed” does not seem to have a specific release date set in stone, but we’ll keep you posted.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting this album for a while. OC Remix rarely (if ever) disappoints, and this album is sure to be just as stellar as the rest.
Interesting fact: This release will mark the point when every Sonic Genesis title (save CD, but thats well…CD) has seen its own OCR Album release. That’ll tie it with Final Fantasy for the most remix albums.
Go go Sonic!
Do you mean the original Sonic trilogy? Because not every Sonic Genesis title has seen an OCR album, like Spinball and 3D Blast, which are in dire need of attention for remixes.
But yeah, I heard the preview and it is being put together very well. I loved Project Chaos but wasn’t too fond of Hedgehog Heaven, but this one looks to surpass both in their textures and creative styles.
To be honest, I was excited when I first heard about a Sonic OCR album, but was disappointed upon discovering it is just music from the first game. IMHO Sonic 1 had pretty atrocious music compared to just about every game that followed. Only songs I really like are SLZ and the boss music.
sometimes i feel the OCRemix people over use some noises that cover up the beat of the songs they remix, but i hear no issues in this album!
Lovin’ Scrap Brain Zone….
I was disappointed in this album. Not nearly as good as Hedgehog Heaven, and doesn’t even come close to the same ballpark as Project Chaos (Though, to be honest, few OCR albums actually do come close to PC.) I’m actually glad I didn’t know of this album until its release, otherwise I would have been even more disappointed.
Songs were forgettable.
Almost every other song was encumbered by obnoxious sound effects.
Almost every song is in bland electronica style, meaning this one definitely doesn’t have the variety one would expect of an OCR album.
The special stage song was overdone.
Almost every song was “interrupted” for blah original music of the artists. And I mean VERY blah.
All in all, I wish they would scrap this album and do a new one, AFTER listening closely to the first two Sonic albums, which had variety and interesting music.
