HD System Could Rival 360/PS3 Power
A Game Informer article, citing multiple sources, claims Nintendo is gearing up to steal the show at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo by announcing a new HD system.
The article cannot specify whether the new system will be backwards compatible with the original Wii, nor does it elaborate on the system’s power. There is some speculation the new system could come close to or exceed capabilities held by the XBOX 360 and the Playstation 3. All that is known is that it will be ready for high definition output, and that it will be revealed at this year’s E3, “if not sooner,” says the article.
There are also indications that Nintendo may move beyond the unique Wii control setup, though that too wasn’t speculated on much in the piece.
Nintendo stock closed down five cents on the pink sheets in light of the widely spread Game Informer article.

It’s about time! Nintendo’s been dominating that market ever since the wii came out 4 years ago. And with this supposed new console, that isn’t going to change anytime soon! Nintendo Now, Nintendo Forever!
It’s got to exceed their power. Nintendo isn’t fool enough to release a new console that’s not even stronger than their competitors’ old consoles. Then again, that’s within the realm of reason and Nintendo only seems to own a summer home there.
well wasn’t there a rumor that the xbox is making a new system as well.(i remember a few months back they were hiring.) so if nintendo makes this awesome system microsoft could in fact 1 up them.
good. nintendo got lazy when developing the wii’s hardware, causing it to be less powerful than the ps3 and xbox 360, and unfortunetly, causing many developers to release crappy games on it. except for nintendo, sega, ubisoft, and a couple others, many developers think “easy cash” and make a terrible game. look at what happened to crash bandicoot. my, how the mighty have fallen…
Perhaps this is why Generations wasn’t announced for the Wii? Perhaps it’s coming to Nintendo’s NEW console and Sega just can’t announce it yet?
Current rumor is 1080p and exceeding the PS3 in power.
Probably won’t be getting it. I’m getting the PSP2 and the ps4 when it comes out. (Not a huge Nintendo fan here)

I’ll buy the PS4, Wii 2, 3DS and NGP. Not right away though because as we all know the first few years of a new console or handheld has NO GAEMS.

Wii2/WiiHD (Likely a new name): Summer/Christmas 2012
New X-box: 2015, probably early to get the foot in fast. May be pushed up based on success of Nintendo’s console.
PS4: 2017 if they hold to their current 10+ year console lifetime plan.
As for the specs on the new Nintendo system, it’ll be either around the power of the PS3 (but with more ram and without the Cell processor) or higher. I’d estimate the launch price to be $300-$350.
Microsoft’s new console is the Kinect.

Actually jjman, Wii came out in 2006. It’s been out for almost 6 years. You’re just behind. The DS came out in 2004, and it took them 7 years for a successor. That’s not releasing hardware really quickly lol.
Dude, if I have to hold up my hand and type stuff and miss because my hand barely moves and hits another letter i’ll be mad. No motion controls, just a controller. No junk and games that suck and aren’t even games (Party games, Junk games) the only game that was a big game and good that WASN’T made by Nintendo, SEGA, or a good company was Epic Mickey,
wait. When I was sent a video IGN said it would be backwards compatable with the WII and would be more powerful than the PS3. They called it Wii 2. o-o
love watching people build up hype over rumors of Nintendo going back to the “hardcore” game business, it’s a way more accurate Cycle than the Sonic one.
Finally! The Wii’s hardware limitations severely limit the online capabilities of some online games, and it seriously is last gen. Hope that it has built-in storage (100GB is a nice start). Nice to see that it’s going to be HD too (there’s even a rumor that it has up to 1080p full HD res.), so it should have a HDMI port. The media format should also be DVD-ROM too, so that games can have more storage than the Wii optical discs. Heck, it could be SO powerful that it could even have a Blu-Ray player (but that’s probably strecthing it-the 360 Slim didn’t have a BD player, so why should the “Wii 2″?)
Anyway, I wonder what the new gimmick or whatever of this new Ninty console is. Will it have a Kinect-esque camera? I heard the new controller has a screen on it… :/

Haha, ill bet the new zelda will get ported and delayed. I mean they are a bit late to the party, zelda i mean. yeah nintendo is late on the hd trail, and with xbox announcing kinect and sony ps move. All the systems will be at an even duel with motion and hd, if the new system supports motion that is. Wii wasnt that great to me, i liked the gamecube way more.
The fact that sony and Microsoft threw in motion gaming kinda says, “Hey uhhh, technology is coming to a halt sooooo we cant really get graphics much better, might as well target what the other guy has!” And its a genius plan sorta, you get to keep all your stuff from the system. Thing is, nintendo should make motion an optional thing for the system. They kinda forced everyone to STAY in motion gaming. Anyway, graphics cant blow me away because its something ive seen on other systems. Zelda and Rayman are all id be interested in, and those games will be a while for another sequel!

What if the new system has an optical drive, but only for backwards compatibility? If Nintendo rolled out a new online service, what would stop them from simply giving it a Terabyte drive and having a Steam-like service?
Expect’d. I’d just be surprised if there WASN’T a new console announcement from Ninty. Mainly cuz 3DS came out recently. I like mine, but like any new console, it sucks having no games. :/
I’d hope the new Nintendo has 3D like 3DS does. The 3DS is a bit less powerful than PSP, which is disappointing. but expected. I wouldn’t say the new Nintendo would be better than PS3/360 or give massive support to multimedia.

This explains why Generations hasn’t been announced yet on a Nintendo console, they maybe waiting to release it on this console. Although due to conflicting release dates that might just be wishful thinking.

I don’t think this is a good idea. We’re only just now digesting the 3DS, and some are gearing up for the NGP. It’s like when you finally buy an iPad 2 only for Apple to announce the iPad 3. It’s legitimate bull(OOPS).
No nintendo console has sequels with the same name. There was no NES 2, or Gamecube 2. So Wii2 will definitely not be the name.
Nintendo is trying to steal Sony and Microsoft’s fires. They had their chance for HD. The new rumor is that Sony will announce the ps4 next year at E3 and it will be hologram-gaming style. No tv required. Guess who’s getting it?

aka real games, and not stupid block engine of smash bros or repeat fanservice of mario kart.
If the “Wii2″ don’t have good games (aka nitendo wii GOD games, only have metroid other m, mario galaxy, fatal frame 4, sonic colors and new zelda).
I don’t buy.
