Green Hill, in HD, Clean, and Beautiful
Today’s reveal of Sonic Generations also included a healthy dose of screenshots of Green Hill Zone, in 2D and 3D. Make no mistake, in stills and motion, Sonic’s original stomping ground looks gorgeous.
We have those shots, plus the official logo, some artwork, and more, in the gallery below, courtesy of French website JeuxVideo.
Our coverage of this major reveal continues all day here at TSSZ.

Wait. This uses the Hedgehog Engine, doesn’t it?! I thought they scrapped it…
@Tom Cole: I don’t think SEGA would create an entirely new game engine just for one game and completely scrap it.
Sega never said they were scrapping the Hedgehog Engine… Where do you get that from? Besides, it took three years to develop. I’ve even heard that they may have used a variation of the Hedgehog Engine in Colors, although that is questionable.
I found this out via IGN. Now I know, I’ll probably lay off that lying, Sonic bashing site for a while…
And for using the Hedgehog Engine in Colours… No. Not even a variation was used. The graphics, no matter how pretty they are, don’t have the shine and shadowyness of Sonic Unleashed.
Man, this game makes Sonic 4 look amateur. I am stunned, amazed, floored. I love it.
That classic Sonic promotional image is effin perfect. Wow.
Green Hill is simply gorgeous–I cannot wait to see other levels such as Ice Cap or Lava Reef, or even Hidden Palace. Aw man, Hidden palace in 3D, I would die. And I’ve waited years to see a snow level that could match Ice Cap, though Holaska in Unleashed came closest.
Waiting until the end of the year for this is gonna be a killer.
Maybe they should scrap Sonic 4 altogether. Not that it was bad, but, all these new projects pretty much over-shadow it.
Everyone, I need help. Look at the render of Sonic and Classic Sonic together. They’re both based on original poses. The Classic Sonic is based on this http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/bruhaha69/Sonic.jpg but I can’t for the life of me find the modern Sonic pose. Loads are very close, but I’ve been searching for an hour and I can’t find a single one as identical as the classic one.
@ShadowTG
As far as the Modern Sonic render is concerned, it’s basically a 3D version of the Sonic art used for the Sonic Classic Collection boxart.

@Komodin Thanks dude!
HA! i was right! i knew modern & classic sonic are the same people BECAUSE IT IS TIME TRAVEL!!!
Hedgehog engine started being developed back in 2005, Shadow the hedgehog was one of the first sonic games to deal with more complicated lighting as well as breakable object physics. This was the start of the hedgehog engine and evolved into shattering pots as you boost through them in unleashed.
Uh oh….I recognize those rings with stars in the center in that Green Hill Zone pic….Does that mean Red Ring hunting from Sonic Colors will be in Sonic Generations?
MORE IMPORTANTLY DOES THAT MEAN SUPER SONIC WILL BE BACK? AGAIN? BOTH VERSIONS?
I HOPE SO….CAN’T WAIT FOR IT’S RELEASE NOW! ^^ lol…
I will like the idea of the red ring collecting IF it doesnt mess with the scoring system, but is the result of the unlockables they are talking about.
Wow, I suspected it would be like this but I had no idea it would be so sweet in real life!
this are pics of the ps3 and looks from it, they modified the engine from the wii version of colors and update to look very detail on ps3 so its a mixed of hedgehog engine with patches or fixes that’s what they calling it to look very good on 2D/3D, only thing is concerning how big are the games going to be when they put all this together 1,2,3,SK,and 4 and seems you can play classic sonic and modern sonic so far we are talking about more than 21gb of data alone with videos and characters and zones of all games together wow that’s is amazing and pretty sure the 360 version somehow will fit all that in compressed 8gb disc with missing data and this version of the ps3 is going support 3D gaming on expensive LCD/LED TV .
RED RINGS SUPER SONIC!
HEY!! have u guys noticed that classic sonic IS extremely shorter than modern (in the charecter art) …… soooo, um, what about them box art rumors agin? hmmm.
