An Even Longer, Closer Look at the First Stage
Via a news tip from Matriculated, we have a more than three minute look at the Green Hill stage from Sonic Generations.
The footage, courtesy of German website 4Players.de, spans both 2D and 3D gameplay areas, and shows off areas not seen before when spliced with a Takashi Iizuka interview.
Check it out below. Thanks to Matriculated for sending this tip in and for converting it to an embeddable Youtube format. If you have news to share, be sure to share it with us by clicking Send News Tips at the top of every page.

Ah okay, the boost is powered by destroying enemies AND collecting rings. (That means getting boost is easier lol… o.O)
And doing tricks… and going through checkpoints and going through large rings. o-o
Geez there’s gotta be some sort of counter. xD It looks like they added spindash but why are they spindashing during boost? Will we be able to do a spindash (a proper one) while not boosting or standing still? (Like will he spin in place til you let go like normal as long as you’re not boosting? I hope so. If so, could also be a sign of more gameplay variety.)
This game better have variety! XD It’s gotta mix it up, be interesting. You know? lol
wow…. looks fun… thats all i can say >_<
Wow, the way Green Hill Zone looks, its more like Green Canyon Zone :O
Okay, I don’t hate I. Sonic’s gameplay anymore, it looks pleasantly varied enough. That GHZ remix will take some getting used to though.
This is looking very great, can’t wait to play it.
To everyone saying that the modern part looks too scripted. I don’t think that’s true, it just looks like the person playing knew what they were doing ….. for once XD
I’m sure that if you mess up a little there’d probably be more to explore
Also, anyone noticed that the Modern Sonic remix of GHZ sounds like OutRun2006 ones?
That is funny. I don’t to see the face that Modern Sonic gameplay doesn’t have power ups unlike the classic Sonic gameplay.
The Green Hill Zone Remix sounds a little too close to the original. When I watched the video the first time, it took me a while to notice. There’s obviously some things they need to do on this game, Sonic fell through a tree at one point and the 2D Fish enemies don’t have textures yet, and BLAH BLAH BLAH! I don’t care if the game has more 2D or 3D, as long as it’s fast, has some form of platforming, and plays well.
Just to let you guys know, Stunts are done by moving the 2 analog sticks to 2 different directions.
Also as for the boosting, it seems that there are not that many rings in the stage to make it not so boost heavy (Like Unleashed), which is a good thing.
Also, I don’t think Sonic has a double jump, at 2:07, he just jumped THEN did a homing attack to gain more distance.
It appears that when you destroy enemies as modern Sonic, you gain boost from what looks like Chaos Drives from Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic ’06. Interesting…
wow some people will complain about anything to make sonic look bad(on youtube) i mean the game is still in development and people are saying the game is crap because of uncurling. the game looks pretty good for a beta. plus this is the first level of the game. of course it’s gonna be pretty straight forward. im sure they’ll make the 3d parts more challenging later on or make rings more scarce in the final build. also a lot of people also say it’s using the sonic 4 physics just from a second o gameplay. i really don’t see the relation(other than 2.5d). the physics are looking fine and sonic doesn’t look floaty like he did in 4.(oh also his momentum is okay as well.)seriously any problem you see will probably be fixed in the actual game. this is just the beta version geez. wait after you play it or at the very least see a final build.
Hey Sonic…Watch out for that tree! Opp never mind he just pulled a casper LMAO!
Needs more Sonic Colors announcing during comboing.
yes! the clouds in the background actually MOVE! thank you sega! in unleashed, the skies were a still painting, but here it seems more realistic to have the clouds realistiacally move.
