An Even Longer, Closer Look at the First Stage
Via a news tip from Matriculated, we have a more than three minute look at the Green Hill stage from Sonic Generations.
The footage, courtesy of German website 4Players.de, spans both 2D and 3D gameplay areas, and shows off areas not seen before when spliced with a Takashi Iizuka interview.
Check it out below. Thanks to Matriculated for sending this tip in and for converting it to an embeddable Youtube format. If you have news to share, be sure to share it with us by clicking Send News Tips at the top of every page.

OMG, DIDN’T I CALL IT
MUSIC CHANGES DEPENDING ON THE SONIC YOU USE
haha, i rule :3
Oh… my… God…
Bloody AMAZING!!!
DAMN YOU, WEBSENSE!!!!!!
Modern sonics parts look like auto pilot. Get rid of the god damn rail grinding already.
This is perfect!
Man this is just pure awesome right here, PURE ADRENALIN SONIC RUSH THROUGH THE CLASSIC GREENHILL ZONE!!!! This is what I’ve been waiting for!!!! I haven’t felt this kind of excitement since Sonic adventure 2.. I mean Sonic Unleashed was pretty good, and Sonic colors was really cool too, but come on people who are already hating on this game!! 2 hedgehogs, one with classic platforming goodness, with an added boost of speed, and modern Sonic includes all the high speed thrills that have been building up for years.. ITS TIME TO LET THE HEDGEHOG LOOSE BABY!!!!!!!
Ahh, the Sonic game of my dreams is finally here. Almost brings a tear to your eye, you know?
My question is, will this have acts? Or is this all we’re gonna see of Green Hill… Er, Greenhill (;D)? I mean, they ARE including levels from three generations of Sonic, so having each zone only have one act (or two, counting each Sonic’s level) makes sense, I guess. If each zone has multiple acts (which I kinda doubt), then dang. This is gonna be one beefy game.
!
Damn, this is PERFECT!
Love both Classic and Modern Sonic stages, gonna get a PS3 just to play this amazing game
By the way, gotta love the Giant Chopper part.
Um, did he really just uncurl at 0:22?
I love how the first stage is an exact remake of Green Hill act 1. It’s hard to tell because of the camera angle.
Awesome
You think it would be too much to hope that there is an adventure styled game play with the fully rendered 3D levels and the adventure designed Sonic?
This is the footage from that Spanish interview video, only extended and obviously devoid of Iizukaisms.
I love the Classic mode, but the Modern mode is putting me off.
Seeing this makes me really excited to see what the rest of the game will be like!
The perfect Sonic game. Well, as perfect as it’ll ever get.
Lovin’ this already.
This game is looking crazy awesome.
on the modern sonic part, anybody heard that rock music and bass guitar!! JUN SENOUE IS BACK!! I miss that adventure 1 2 and heroes music it was the best!! now its back!!!
sigh, beautiful Classic Sonic… suddenly SEGA and their friggin STUPIS SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED SPEED NO ITEMS LOADS OF GRINDING AGAIN AND STUPID 1 HIT KILL BOOST
If SEGA keeps M Sonic like this then they are gonna FAIL big time.
@blueblur
really a lot of people seem fine with m. sonic. besides this is the first level so we don’t know what items could be added later.
plus you have to admit its beautiful either way.:p
@ShadowTG, I’m pretty sure the layout is 100% original, if it were the same layout, I’m pretty sure a number of people would have noticed it by now.
@Sjmaster I noticed that afterwards. But there’s still the introductory bumpy hills, raised background platform, and ropebridge afterwards. I’m also pretty sure there’s a 90′ slope after the two tunnel-like parts you spindash in, and a field of rings you fly through. So the beginning’s sort of close.
NOICE
looks brilliant =]
my only grudge is sonic M’s boost, id much prefer it if he just run faster, closed his fists and maybe blurred a bit rather than having that whole blue thing round him… But i tend not to boost anyway so i don’t know why im complaining…
Looking brilliant so far, i just hope having classic sonic around doesnt ruin sonic m for people…
I’m super stoked for this game! But, as others have pointed out, Modern Sonic’s gameplay seems too scripted. Not trying to nitpick or anything, just providing input. Hopefully it’s just because it’s the first level.
Anybody else notice some similarities to the trailer in the last couple of seconds?
http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/8442/trailergameplaycomparis.png
WANT. NAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOO
i dont see why you are all BOO MODERN SONIC LOOKS SO EASY!!! its freaken level one guys, this is no different than apotos.
I have a lot to say…about the modern Sonic Level….not much about the Classic….EXCEPT CLASSIC EGGMAN (or Robotnik) ON THE SIGNPOST!!!!!!
A lot of things jumped out at me…for one thing the boost is powered by rings and looks exactly like the boost in Sonic Unleashed….which makes me think this is Sonic Unleashed 2…instead of Werehog levels we have Classic Sonic Levels….and the rings don’t seem as plentiful…for now….and at this moment I think it won’t be AS boost heavy as unleashed was….
another thing that immediately jumped out at me was that the homing attack reticule or lock on thing or whatever was on a grind rail…which automatically makes me think Sonic 06 when the homing attack would lock in on Grind Rails…..which is….actually ok…..I didn’t mind it in that game (EXCEPT WHEN I DIDN’T WANT IT TO HAPPEN!!!!) and I don’t think I will mind it in this game…..so why am I bringing it up is a mystery….
Finally it looks like the Homing attack and Boost may have their own separate buttons…because he did a homing attack even though he still had boost left….which makes me happy…because a lot of times I died when I just wanted to do the homing attack and did the air boost or wanted to do the air boost and did a homing attack…..thankfully it looks like this issue has been resolved….maybe….
other than that…graphics look amazing….game looks amazing…can’t wait to play it…and no…I don’t mind grind rails in any Sonic game….as long as entire levels aren’t devoted to it….RAIL CANYON AND APOTOS DAY ACT III (HD VERSION)! I’M LOOKING AT YOU!….but thankfully it doesn’t look NEARLY that bad yet…thank you….and again…can’t wait for the game! ^^
Friggin Awsome =D
anybody else notice how during modern Sonic’s stage, whenever the boost is used, the music changes? those drums start pounding
Nice touch, but i hope it wont make the music sound too choppy.
Visually the game looks stunning, i would have liked for the person doing the playing to have not speed rushed the classic sonic part, i wanted to see how it looked by playing properly plataforming, and i also realise this must be a build because of the lack of enemies shown atleast in the classic sonic gameplay.
Modern sonic’s part did look kind of automatic, constant speed boost all the way, but like i said, this must be a build and not the finished game.
Still, when will this game come out? in the summer on his birthday or in the fall?
i like how when you boost a fast pace guitar rift is added in, and when you stop its back to normal.
Hey look, more people complaining over nothing.
So why does modern Sonic still need boost pads? His own boost is already powered by Rings, aerial tricks, and destroyed enemies.
A perfect blend of speed and platforming. That’s what Sonic should be.
And it is in this gameplay. Also Green Hill Zone looks spectacular in the hedgehog engine.
I think we might greatly underestimate the Modern Sonic gameplay.
Aw come on SEGA hurry up and show gameplay videos of Remake levels from SA and SA2 already or just show one of them.
Oh noes, uncurling!!
Oh well, looks friggin’ EPIC!!
@darkgomugomu
No they’re not! Stop jinxing it! D; This is exactly what you guys do to the franchise and now to the fanbase, you make false accusations causing them to happen. XD
The game looks nuts! In a good way! XD
To those who feel like complaining about Modern Sonic’s stage…
Remember Sonic Unleashed? Remember Apotos? Remember holding the boost button the near entire time?
Now do you remember Adabat and Eggmanland? You so much as boosted in the wrong place and you forfeited your meagre handful of lives.
First levels are just to show off Sonic’s speed and basic ability set, nothing more. It gets tricky later.
Then, one day, somebody got the bright idea to make a good Sonic game– and this was it.
Seriously, the Classic part I was drooling, until it kicked in on how frakking amazing this would be to play, assuming they got it right XD Oh my GOD I am in heaven.
Please oh please don’t cock this one up, SEGA…
Did anyone else notice the original style “Robotnik” on the “end of act” Green Hill Zone style?
No? Just me? Okay.
wow! this is so Win
i love the gameplay of Classic Sonic and the gameplay of Modern Sonic is so awesome!
this game is for me!
i love the genesis days :3 and i love Unleashed/Colors Speed *w*
Oh GOD! this game is REAL, not a dream
!!!!!!
I love Modern Sonic’s levels. I hope they put in some Sonic CD levels too. Stardust Speedway and/or Quartz Quadrant in Modern mode would be GODLY.
@FoxBoy …Dude i’m referring to other people. Are you kidding me, im freaking PSYCHED for this game! Im extremely pissed at the people who don’t even give this game a second thought. We get everything we want and those “true sonic fans” are STILL complaining.
The gameplay looks tight, the environment looks WAY PAST COOL (sorry had to do that), and to kick it off, the physics are fixed for classic sonic. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that the boost is powered by rings. I’d rather it be like Colors where it was only powered by something else that was rarer. Otherwise, we get the “press boost to win” formula from unleashed. And to those complaining about uncurling off a slope, SUCK IT UP AND GROW A PAIR.
Looks good for a build. Classic on the signpost was a cute animation. And Modern’s voice was dead-on from my imagination. RCS did surprisingly good with gameplay dialog. Stupid Colors announcer.
@darkgomugomu
I know who you’re referring to and how you feel. I meant that there wasn’t much complaining compared to usual so when you comment that there is people will start complaining more often. Do not tamper with the space time continuum. You know what that’ll get us? …Solaris. And you know where he comes from? The flame of Disaster. And you know what that’s from? The game of Disaster. D; lol jk
But still, I’m psyched too and I’m never psyched even when I like how the game looks. XD
- I didn’t see any uncurling. o.O
- I always hated the “boost to win” thing. If memory serves, letting my friends and sister play Unleashed for the first time we learned “boost to die”. xD (Besides, if they’re suggesting you don’t need to do anything but boost then technically you don’t need to boost either so it contradicts itself. XD)
- And I thought the boost was powered by destroying enemies in this game. I could’ve swore I saw XP come from the robots into the gauge. (Like, usually when there’s XP, it powers something in a Sonic game. Like in Sonic 06 and Unleashed. lol) Also, you do tricks in the air to gain boost too. I THINK I saw a double-jump in the trailer as well like in Colors. If so, then it is probably a sign of more platforming as that’s all it’d be necessary for. =P
As for “Everything we asked for”, well if there’s a third Sonic for Adventure series gameplay (or if one of the 2 Sonics take it on) SOMEWHERE in the game (idc where or what stages) then maybe. xD But otherwise, if not perfect, it sure as hell is close. XD Amirite? =D
