Press Release Affirms 3rd Collab in Development
We showed you the early box art last week, and now it’s official: the 3rd major partnership between Mario and Sonic–and therefore Sega and Nintendo–will be another one of Olympic proportions.
Such news was made clear when a Czech article announcing Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games for both the Nintendo Wii and the 3DS was found by The Sonic Stadium. Given recent rumors about the Wii’s successor on the way, this may be one of the last Sonic games for the system and that it will be out for the Holiday season this year, well ahead of the actual 2012 Olympic Games in London. It also means we may now know what the 3DS specific Sonic title is.
The translation is rough, but the piece states the new game will include new sports to play, such as soccer. The 3DS edition is also said to include a new control mechanism.
We will post the proper press release once made available in English, which we suspect will be very soon, if not Thursday. Stay with TSSZ for more as this busy news week gets even busier.

WHY THE FUCK ARE THEY STILL DOING THIS SERIES?
(sighs) I expect better than this but you know Sega & Nintendo Cha Ching!
Well this certainly is going to annoy alot of people…
Yay…???
Ah well, at least the kids’ll have somthing to do in 2012. XD
Think of it this way, nay-sayers…
Collab of Nintendo and Sega = More cha-ching = Better games in the future.
@ darkgomugomu
Because it sells and Sega needs money to fund future games.
It also might gets fans of Mario into Sonic and vise versa.
Hmm does anyone know if Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games sold less?
@SonicLegends It sold way less than the first
Sooooo, anyone wanna beg SEGA and Nintendo for Mario and Sonic Adventure?
@Dan
Thats what I was gonna say….
@Dan
Thank you for the info. If that is the case then I can see this selling even less.
“Okay, team. So Mario is a platformer…Sonic is a platformer…what’s the best way to bring both worlds together and utilize each mascot’s abilities to create a thrilling adventure with emphasis on memorable content and lasting appeal for players both young and old?”
“OLYMPICS LOL”
Joking aside, I’m curious to see what improvements they’ll be making this time around. I assume they might have more wiggle room now that there’s no longer an overbearing winter theme. I’d love to see a mix of old and new events with new characters and maybe even a simple story with characters to interact with.
Well, there was a Sonic game missing from Wii this year…
@RaggtimeSonic
and you say that like its a good thing…
‘Eh, maybe I’ll finally get this one. I didn’t get the first two… but if there’s significant additions and several new characters added (GIMME ROUGE DAMNIT), I’ll probably give it a go. Maybe have a STORY for the Wii version, too, this time… one not so tedious as the DS version.
Eh, don’t see myself getting this.
Great, more shovelware……
Well this is pretty good news I suppose, I mean I’m always happy to see mario and sonic make another game together, cause that just opens up the oppertunities a little more for a REAL Mario and Sonic Adventure game. Which I have no idea why it hasn’t been done by now!! Once again though, I seriously hope they have a nice flowing story. Not something as corny and silly as OH NO!!! EGGMAN AND BOWSER HAVE STOLEN… allll the snow in vancouver and plan to… stop the olympics?? okay?…
I realize that the Mario and Sonic series is more kid-orientated, and the more i think about it, How could they really fit a cool serious story into the olympic games?
Well bottom line for me is I really just want a nice solid story, and not only on the 3DS version like they did with the winter olympic games DS! Eh who am i kidding? I’ll buy it anyway! XD
Well…fuck. There goes more hope for Sonic Adventure 3. They say they’ve got another announcement; let’s hope the last one is SA3.
ALL OF MY HATE!!
I don’t mind another olympics game…this statement is what concerns me…
“Given recent rumors about the Wii’s successor on the way, this may be one of the last Sonic games for the system”
If that’s true please sega and nintendo give us fans on the Wii one last hurra with either a sonic game that’s a mix of colors and generations or a Mario and Sonic platformer adventure that would be great…
Wasn’t there some sort of rumor bout a Mario and sonic game that wasn’t sports??
well i mean, i knew sonic adventure wasn’t coming, but like, i wasn’t expecting this =O
I’m a little dissapointed, but i’ll probably get it anyway because you know, more characters to choose from lolz
OH COME ON…….well, at least the 3DS title is this, and not another full-blown rush effort by Sonic Team.
Ugh… was this the Sonic they were talking about being on the 3DS? What a letdown.
Well at least we can play our lives away somehow until the planet collapses at the end of 2012 so they say…who knows lol? If anything Lets end the great cycle with a bang!
……………………………………………………… Well, now all my hope is destroyed. I REALLY thought SA3 will be announced this year. Sega, but giving us this game, there’s no other choice but to realize I will have to WAIT LONGER, ALONG WITH TONS OF OTHER FANS, for Sonic Adventure 3.
Sonikdude101, you we’re right, and I wish you weren’t.
Well this is nice. Hopefully it’s BETTER than the previous 2 now that I have my own Nintendo Wii. o3o
Sure it could be better but my goodness people count your freakin blessings you spoiled brats! XD
Seriously what else can Mario and Sonic DO? Make a platformer game with 2 gameplay styles? Let’s not steal Sonic Generation’s thunder now!
And SA3, yes that would be great plus it wouldn’t stop other games from being made. (And people stop saying you’d rather play a NEW game. If they make SA3, it WILL be a new game.) Now, I hope they make an SA3 someday, but you’re nuts if you think it’ll be announced this year. There’s hardly ever 2 major Sonic games in 1 year. lol
Anyhoo, this is good news to me. Not as good as possible but still pretty good. =)
No online = no buy. There is absolutely no excuse for it to not have online multiplayer especially for a Wii game in 2011.
How can the Winter Olympics sell poorly, it has ICE SKATING METAL SONIC =T
But anyway…. I’ll buy this title anyway even though I’m not a big fan of sports/party titles >__>
WAIT! I’m not saying that I think this is fake but, something doesn’t add up. Didn’t Crush 40 say that they are going to be writing the music for the 20th anniversary game? In Sonic Generations, Crush 40 isn’t writing music for that game, it’s SEGA.
@ry64 – They have ANOTHER announcement?! Where did you read this I want to see! Oh, and if they announce Sonic 4 episode 2, I hope that’s not the kind of announcement they are going to make, since they already said they are going to make it.
Well, Im really dissapointed…I was expecting something more than just another Olympic Game. I was hoping for some adventure with some awesome story, but this, another “just finish the competition a go to another without a proper story”. Not Way Past Cool Sega, not Way Past Cool. But still, if this the only Sonic game that comes on Wii, I’ll buy it. Still its Sonic. And Im not letting myself to be that sad to destroy the whole Sonic 20th Anniversary. At least guys with PS3 and XBOX 360 will have Generations. Lucky guys
Well, and I didnt expected that our country will know it as first =D
-_- *facepalm*
Horray, more shovelware that most likely NOBODY wanted.
And this is for the 3DS? Damn………. I guess THIS was the untitled 3DS Sonic game.
Yeah, the only Sonic game I give a **** about is Generations. I’ll add Sonic 4: Episode II if the game…:
- Has classic physics, and little-to-no automation
- Has Tails and Knuckles playable (bonus points for Amy)
- Has local/online competitive and co-op multiplayer
- Original badniks, bosses, level themes, etc.
- Has elemental shields
- In general, the game is more like the classics and doesn’t suck.
I think there is only one silver lining that can come from all this…..hopefully we could get a Mario and Sonic platformer on Project Cafe. Mario and Sonic together in HD! w00t!
More Olympics? That’s cool. =)
Though with it being set in London and all, I can’t help but dread the imminently bleak story mode. =P
*sigh* they lied to us and still do the same crap again
but hell, i still gonna get that game!!!
Here it is, in english:

Last paragraph:
“Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games will be available on the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo 3DS. Release date and other information, we wil earn later this year.”
I actualy like the Mario & Sonic series for the DS, but the story of the winter one…
cmon why wold two of the most important bosses in the video game story want to steal snow?!?!
WHY!?!?!?
I also hope they add better characters instead of Charmy and Big
Well, I most likely won’t get this, but I suppose when you think about it, it isn’t that surprising. As far as this being the untitled 3DS sonic game–that’s disappointing, to say the very least. I mean, I was all ready for a brand new game (not another rush, though I liked those). At least we’ll get Generations.
I admit I actually liked Wii Winter Games to an extent (Both Vancouver and Beijing games did get me interested in the Olympics a bit), but I just wonder when they hell they’ll buckle down and make a proper platformer.
@darkgomugomu,
