As with its predecessors, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games for the Wii and Nintendo 3DS is being developed by SEGA Japan and is published by SEGA across Europe and North America, and by Nintendo in the Japanese market. Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games is licensed through a worldwide partnership with International Sports Multimedia (ISM), the exclusive interactive entertainment software licensee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
“Mario and Sonic have had a phenomenally successful partnership and we are extremely proud to be able to recreate this once again with Nintendo and ISM for the London 2012 Olympic Games,” commented Naoya Tsurumi, Chairman for SEGA of America and SEGA Europe. “It is truly exciting to be in the position to develop interactive entertainment software titles based on the Olympic Games, and for Sonic and Mario to once again be a part of this historic event.”
“The London 2012 Olympic Games will be a sporting showcase that will embrace the world and we are delighted to have Mario and Sonic competing once again, this time in the largest number of Olympic sports ever,” says Raymond Goldsmith, Chairman & CEO of ISM.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games will be available on the Wii™ home video game system and the Nintendo 3DS™. A launch date will be announced later in the year.

Weeeeell, they know what we really want. I think more Mario and Sonic brings us gradually closer to that.
Lame.
Hm… More annoucments
Now they need to annouce SA2 XBLA and PSN port.
I hope the next announcement isn’t something stupid(ier)
1 fact that i learn from this: Sonic is pro at soccer xD
That’s so cool!
SA3 2011: I’m just waiting for that hahah.
But that’s cool though, my sisters and I loved the last two, I’ll definitely be getting this one too.
I think they are mistakening those 19 million of actually of wanting Mario and Sonic to continue as an Olympic games series.
ugh… amazing how Sega has the amazing insight for Sonic Generations and then follows it up with this… Also that title is just obnoxious. What about just “Mario & Sonic at London 2012″?
…okay if this is gonna happen… have a REAL and INTERESTING story + some cutseans. lyk how brawl always have theirs. cuz then its lyk: “whats the point of having another Olympic game if i already have M&S 1or M&S 2 or even both!!!”. cuz every one dose the same thing in them anyway. ugh. im a lil disappointed… blarg.
I totally agree with Chrissy. If this game has to come out then so be it, but There really needs to be a good story with some nice cutscenes, like Sonic and Mario poking fun at eachother! Why couldn’t the first two games have the spunk and funny humor that The commercials that advertised the game had? Those were hilarious!
This game is meant to be a casual experience that can be played in a family setting. Most of the people who’ve bought the previous incarnations aren’t core gamers. When you start adding a not-so-simple story, cutscenes and all that jazz, the game starts to lean toward the core demographic.
Companies need to make money, and it’d stupid to not take advantage of the casual gaming boom. I’ve never played any of the installments in this series, and don’t plan to. But I’m fine with Sega releasing these types of games.
They should add two more games and call it “Mario & Sonic Action 52″.
Oh equestrian type events? I want Sonic riding on Rainbow Dash!
Mario’s gonna try to pierce Sonic with that… Sonic’s making a comeback
Wait 2012? This WILL have a story after all!
I love SEGAMew’s comment. LOL
SEGA said that they are announcing 3 Sonic titles this year. Many people think it’s Sonic Generations, M & S London games, and Sonic 4 episode 2. BUT! Sonic 4 was announced LAST YEAR. All episodes count as 1 title. That still means that SEGA has one more announcement to make (hopefully).
Where’s my Mario VS. Sonic crossover fighting game? Damnit, Sega!!!!!
Still doesn’t change a fact that they are making a game most likely NOBODY wanted.
Hope to see a Mario and Sonic platformer / Nintendo vs. Sega SSB-esque fighting game on Project Cafe.
I do like the pic of Sonic with a soccer ball though.
Sweet. The showdown between two greatest video games heroes move on into round three of the Olympic Games. I hope that the next Sega Superstars Series will have the game that is sequel to Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing as long as Vyse,NiGHTS,and Bug at the very least were playable.
@Amuro – That would be SSBB.
@sonic52789
Nope. I’m pretty sure they have announced all 3 titles now. There’s 3 announcements that were to be made around this time of the year and all 3 were announced.
Sonic 4 Ep 2 was announced like in February or March, that’s THIS year. Sure we knew that Sonic 4 Ep 2 would follow and they brought it up. But they didn’t “announce” it yet. (When they announce it, they usually are announcing that it exists already and is in production, which is why it exists. Merely mentioning it before developement is just words and an idea. But announcing it means it’s already in existence, just not yet complete. It’s sort’ve an “Actions vs words” kinda thing)
btw, that art of Mario and Sonic looks awesome xD
Sonic kicking mario’s ass in London hehe
I really hope this isn’t the Sonic 3DS game SEGA was referring to on the 3DS games list, I want my Sonic Rush 3DS or a port of Generations dammit!!
@FoxBoy
Actually Sonic 4 eps 2 wasnt officially annouced and is considerated as rumor.
Secon one this leak said its in early design stages so I doubt it will be relased this year.
Maybe there is another game but WE DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT!
The only leaks we had was SG, Mario and Sonic and SA2 digital port.
There is mysterious Sonic 3DS that was leaked but I think its M&S
Espio had better be playable….
(looks at Mario picture) He’s going to stab me with a javalin!!
(looks at Sonic picture) …(drools)
I didn’t get the first two games ’cause, well, they were kinda stupid, but MAYBE I’ll get the Wii version of this. Mainly for the football.
@sonic52789: I don’t mean Nintendo characters with one Sega character, buddy.
@Amuro – Whoops, sorry buddy. Well buddy at least Mario and Sonic get to fight in that game buddy.
But it would be cool to have like a MARIO vs. SONIC fighting game.
@FoxBoy – Actually, Sonic 4 is ONE TITLE. The episodes are just part of the game that SEGA releases yearly. So there’s still (hopefully) one more title to be announced. I’m hoping Sonic Adventure 3.
Oh gee… What a great announcement. SO WHERES MY M&S PLATFORMING GAME SEGA?
SegaMew: L.O.L.
How is equestrian events going to work with sentinent animals? Isn’t that like…wrong on several counts? D8
Other than that, I haven’t really played either of the games (my sis has the Winter one) but I do love the commercials they play for them, the graphics are cool. 8D
