With It, More Screenshots and Artwork
Further affirming the news from yesterday, Sega today opened up a Japanese portal site for Sonic Generations, making it the first official site in the Sega family dedicated to the next Sonic.
Right now, the site only relays the original trailer from earlier in the month. There are, however, a couple new screenshots from the Green Hill Zone, and with thanks to Woun of the Russian Sonic Scene, rips of both the rendered Green Hill background, and the individual character art of both Modern and Classic Sonic.
All of that is in the gallery below. We will of course bring you more Sonic Generations news in the coming weeks and months. Thanks again to Woun for tipping us off. If you have news to share, be sure to share it with us by clicking Send News Tips at the top of every page.

Oh my gosh…. wait until the horrible recolors for classic Sonic come in….
lol i hate recolours
About time…
Am I the only one that thinks the corkscrew is way (or a little) too big? I can’t be right? Not that it’s a huge problem, just think it’s larger than it needs to be.
@cdrom1019
It IS larger compared to the 16-bit games. But I wouldn’t consider that a problem at all. It looks alright, actually, specially for nowadays huge TV screens.
Any chance Sonic 4 Episode 2 can be done using Sonic Generations’ classic Sonic graphics engine?
Anybody?
*sigh*
The game is looking amazing.
@Andre YES! In fact, I think they should remake the first episode with it
lol what’s all this about recolours?
Wow! That first screenshot looks BEAUTIFUL! XD
@Master Shake: It is, isn’t it? Amazing. =D
As great as it looks already, if “Sky Sanctuary Zone” is in this game, I will forgive and forget everything. I get teary-eyed just imagining my favourite level of all reinvented to this magnitude.
Don’t let me down, SEGA. =)

…What? A man can dream.
@Kits’Okami
Same! Im excited as hell for this, but all i can keep thinking is how incredible the sky sanctuary would look, its the one zone im praying is in it. All of the other zones i like anyway so i dont mind which ones are in, but sky sanctuary is a must lol
However, i also think it will be cool if they release DLC afterwards with extra zones, though im guessing that will depend on the games success
This game better not be aimed at younger fans. Sorry SEGA but “slap stick” humor doesn’t work in a Sonic game. Sonic is a COOL blue edgy hedgehog, not some very immature hedgehog with a childish sense of humor.
If Sonic is EVER going to have “humor”, it should be him being cocky.
What I’m trying to say is that I don’t want SEGA to focus on “humor” in their games. I want them to think “Hmmm, how could I make this game fun/ cool and exciting”.
OH! SEGA, since Sonic goes through levels of his past, and it features very familiar music (for example: Green Hill), when Sonic is going through the Adventure era (best era), could you have the Ice cap level from Sonic Adventure as one of the levels? Please, I want to hear this song again on my TV.
sonic:..slapstick humor doesn’t work in a Sonic game? Uhhh…maybe if you have no humor bone in your body and take video games WAY too seriously. (Which it looks like you do)
I laughed my ass off to some well placed moments in Colors.
@SSC
Can I dream with you then? xD
But seriously, SEGA, you’ve now got the perfect 2D Sonic game engine…kick DIMPS out now and remake Sonic 4: Ep 1 and 2 with this engine NAAOOOOWWWW!!!!
I don’t care if Sonic 4 was a commercial success, it has NOTHING on this.
I wonder if each level will have multiple acts for each Sonic…..
@Haru – So… You’re telling me you busted up at “baldy McNosehair?” Uh, how old are you? I just think that slap stick humor in games ruins the game. Perfect example: Crash Bandicoot (new games).
Also, Sonic has a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT Personallity in Colors. That’s what I don’t like about that game the most.
@sonic52789 I think his personality in colors made him better.
Also, what REALLY bugged me about Colors (other than Sonic’s childish non fitting personality), was Eggman and his henchmen. They didn’t even seem like Villians, they seemed more like a joke than a threat. ESPECIALLY CUBOT, EVERYTHING HE SAID WAS A CHILDISH JOKE. Orbot was fine in Sonic Unleashed, but Cubot doesn’t seem like a Sonic character.
BUT. I do like some things in that game. The game-play was VERY fun. *SPOILER* You get to play as Super Sonic in ALL stages. Plus, MULTI-PLAYER.
There was also one PART of a cutscene that was pretty cool (1:00 – 1:23)
@sonic52789 One of the reasons Sonic had bad reputation was because of his personality. A lot of Sonic fans were dissapointed with the new one though, while some learned to accept his difference. I hated the new Sonic for a while, but then I started to like him. Hes one of my favorite characters now. I also like the humor… a little. Just keep Sonic open for everyone including kids. That doesn’t mean the games HAVE to have slapstick humor, it just means its not based on some story that could offend religion (monsters and storybook), It doesn’t cuss (Sonic and Secret Rings/ Shadow), and isn’t some “Serious!!11!!” story.
@sonic52789
Sonic IS a kid’s franchise. And to be fair i was extremely entertained by Eggman and Co.’s wackiness. It added a lot of charm
@Darkgomugomu – I know he is a KIDS franchise, but Sonic Colors was said BY SEGA that it was aimed at YOUNGER fans that are like 6 – 10. Games like SA2, Sonic Unleashed, Shadow the Hedgehog, etc, are aimed at older fans like in their teens.
Sonic may be a KIDS franchise, but teenagers are still kids BTW.
OH! For those of you who think that SA3 has NO CHANCE OF COMING OUT THIS YEAR because Sonic Generations has a story and is the next main game, read this.
Who said SEGA never released two main games in one year? Just look at 2010, Sonic Colors AND Sonic 4 came out, and they’re both main console games.
and one was a downloadable title
@sonic52789: Yeah, because a black hedgehog with guns and knives who “curses” being hunted down by the military and an alien army is SO appropriate for the kiddies. And in case you couldn’t tell, Unleashed had some slap-stick as well. Neither Unleashed nor Colors had over-the-top cheesy kids dialogue like in Heroes, so I don’t know what you’re complaining about.
@Sonic52789
Sonic 4 is like the classics, which are tiny like the handheld games. So really it’s like making a hand held game while making Colors. I mean, it was done by Dimps and Sonic Colors wasn’t. That should explain something right there.
SA3 and Generations would both be the same team most likely for the type of games they are.
The reason I say it won’t come out this year, and sorry but yeah SA3 WON’T be coming out (this year), the reason IS… because in October it was said to not be in developmenet and not even in plans of developement. So it must’ve been planed AFTER October and then in developement. Even if they started developement in October when mentioning it, it still wouldn’t be out yet. Sonic Generations has been in developement since 2008. If SA3 were currently in developement it woud come out in like almost yeaars. xP
@sonic52789: And also, at this point, does anyone really care about a game blatantly called “Sonic Adventure 3″? Do we really? After, like, five different ports of Sonic Adventure and the success of Colors, which may as well be an Adventure title, along with the hype for this game, Sonic Adventure 3 will not be as big of an announcement in my opinion.
@Amuro – Okay, first of all, Shadow doesn’t use knives, it was guns. Secondly, when I said Sonic is for KIDS, I mean like TEENAGE and under. A LOT of Modern Sonic fans are TEENAGE. Not like Mario where it’s like 9 and under. The ONLY “KIDDIE” Sonic games are: Sonic Colors and Sonic Heroes, And YES I noticed that Unleashed had SOME humor, but I didn’t noticed until I beat the game the second time, and it wasn’t focused on humor that only a 5 year old would find funny.
BTW, I doubt you wouldn’t be thrilled if SA3 was announced.
