Stop By from June Through July
Just announced today on the Sonic 20th Anniversary feed is word of a new Sonic celebration behind held at Sega’s Tokyo Joypolis amusement location.
The event will run from June 11th through July 10th. Details are a bit sketchy on what to expect–principally because they’ve been lost in translation–but the Twitter feed does drop a hint of seeing Sonic return to his original form as part of it. Beyond that, whatever is happening will be happening for a month, offering locals plenty of time to experience the anniversary festivities first-hand.
THURSDAY PM UPDATE: Thanks to an update on the 20th anniversary page, we now know a little more on what to expect. The event will include a series of Sonic games from the past 20 years on display, though we’re not sure if they’ll be playable or if it’ll just be box art. In addition, promotional flyers, other artwork, and rare early original illustrations created around the time of Sonic’s conception will be on display. It appears that, in many ways, this will be part history lesson, and part art gallery.
We’ll be sure to bring you any more details if and when made available.

Man this makes me wish I could win a trip to well don’t they call it the land of the rising sun? I dunno just wish just once I could see Japan with my own eyes and two feet lol.
Wait, in Tokyo? So that amusement location was untouched by the tsunami I assume? Then again I have no idea where anything is located in Japan nor what areas were hit. Well I hope things get better over there and those who get to go to this event have a lot of fun.
I mean, with such publicity, hopefully Sonic can be seen as a big attraction again. We already have Sonic Spinball in Europe. In the States it’d be cool to have a Sonic-themed something at Six Flags. Do they use any non-Disney franchises in DisneyWorld? I heard there was a Star Wars training ground there so.. yea. lol
I really want to go to Japan, I always have, and this doesn’t help me to contain my excitement at all….
So… how is Japan doing? Is it getting better? Worse? I haven’t heard an update in a while…
Someone please attend and take mucho video and pictures for us who cannot be there. Would be very greatful.
Serpx: We may send Danny over in June to check it out.

@FoxBoy: Tokyo was relatively intact after the quake, as I recall. They’ve had power problems, but aside from that they did okay. Other cities weren’t as fortunate.
Sounds good, nothing like this set for the UK then?
