Official Sonic Outreach Site Left for Dead since March
With so much change within Sega of late–the departure of Kevin Eva and the promotion of Aaron Webber chief among them–what was once a key official portal for all things Sonic has gone by the wayside, perhaps for good.
We are speaking of the Sonic City Blognik, which relayed many official news and notes from the other Sega blogs, and occasionally afforded some original content. But since late March, there has been nothing significant to come out that specific portal. There, it’s as if Sonic Generations or Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games were never announced. To be fair, much of its maintenance rested on Eva, who left the company in March, though other community managers occasionally appeared.
It appears, for now, the Blognik will remain dormant. Responding to a Tweet on the matter, Sega’s Twitter feed made clear that going forward, Sonic news will be lumped in with everything else on the main US and EU blogs.
“We post Sonic news direct to US or EU blogs now,” the Tweet read.
While procedurally it doesn’t mean much, that the Blognik will be allowed to decay may indicate a small shift of priorities away from Sega’s flagship franchise, shying away from a more direct link with the fandom. Ironically, those were exactly the bonds Eva sought to strengthen with the Blognik and other initiatives he spearheaded during his time at Sega Europe. Between this and Webber’s promotion, it remains to be seen how much those ties between community and company will wane.

It sounds like Sonic is really being chucked towards the Europeans. Which makes sense as this is were all the sonic sales have been in like forever.
@Danielle
There are PLENTY of Sonic fans in the states. In fact, I’m sure an official SOS America would be a hit in NYC.
That sucks
It’s most likely just a minor cost-cutting measure. In fact, I’m sure SEGA is questioning the value of maintaining the US and EU blogs at all in the wake of facebook/twitter etc.
Hmmmm…argh…more sorrows…Merlina once said ”What good is a world that goes on forever!” & Sonic says “That’s pretty lame!” I can’t remember how the rest goes but y’all get the idea I’m sure. Just hate when something good comes to an end.
@Shadowbane2009
It was Sonic who said “What good is a world that goes on forever!?” because Merlina was trying to make it never-ending.
I get that Sonic was trying to teach a lesson that the world has flaws and whatnot and to accept them for what they are, but in that game particularly he was pretty much the villain. What does he mean when he says that to her? It’s not like the REAL world is ending. And I think people should be able to choose if they wanna go on forever, not be forced to someday end by Sonic hedgehog. (I mean if they die year it’s unavoidable, but unless their’s a consequence, wtf is wrong with the world not ending?)
And did someone say that Europe was where the most Sonic fans were? oh lolz what a bunch of giggles and snickers. XD
If you think THAT’s dead…..anyone remember Sonic Central? The site stopped updating around 2008, and now it’s extinct. If you try to go to the site, it’ll redirect you to the main Sega website with a list of Sonic games.
