Now “Uncertain” of Return, Six Weeks of Downtime Now a Possibility
A report from Bloomberg suggests Sony PS3 users could be in it for the long haul regarding continued Playstation Network downtime.
A Japan based spokesperson for Sony claims the company is now “uncertain” when the online service, in whole or in part, will return online. Previously, Sony was shooting for a partial PSN return at the end of last week.
Security measures continue to be implemented at Sony to prevent another intrusion like the one that compromised the personal data from millions of PSN accounts on April 20th, prompting the shutdown. The spokesperson said a May 31st target date to fully restore the PSN remains.
This, while both users and companies get impatient in the face of continued downtime. Another report has a Capcom executive on the record saying the downtime has cost that company quite a bit of money so far.

Eh…
@raggtimesonic Great comment.
I have a jailbroken PS3 so I really don’t care about PSN. However, I am a little bummed I can’t play any new games that require a 3.60 FW yet.
I might just switch back to the Official Firmware so I can play Alice: Madness Returns when I buy it.
A lot of PSN users are moaning about the downtime but here’s the big question. Would they rather have PSN put back online with the same problems and thier credit card and personal deatils up in the air for any Tom, Dick and Harry to snap up? Or would they rather wait for Sony to finish securing PSN so this kind of thing doesn’t happen again. Persoally… i’m prepared to wait… But then i do have a 360 to tide me over. XD
Well this sux but yup. We all became victims because certain people got too high on thier horse and that lead to retaliation and serious backfeed that I bet Sony regrets stirring up. Just remember that if u piss the bees off Sony they will attack back lol, but also remember who suffers because of the stirring up. I won’t encourage hacking especially in this big brother era/anti terror age that can lead u to a lifetime of shit. Sometimes I just wish these companies could come to a medium instead of leading to insane greed.
@sonick123456: Your comment isn’t as special either.
These hackers have costed Sony millions of dollars. I’m not supporting their efforts, but I must say, they did one helluva job, while also (from what I understand) not being able to get caught through the matter (unless I’m wrong on the issue). Wow. Just goes to show, don’t piss off hackers.
Finally we have a date.
@Knuckles Chaotix: You also had a date of “this weekend.”
call me selfish, but i’m more concerned about how this is affecting other companies…. don’t be surprised when you find that your anticipated video games have been delayed because they couldn’t test the games online functionalities…..
for god sakes! It better be worth the wait… although I have to share the interb=net by connecting to my aunts whenever I go over hers -_-
I want internet :’(
Are you serious? I’m getting a new controller today and I havn’t played PSN in weeks, since I had no controller. I bought a cheap crappy one, but that obviously had to get a return. and now i’m hearing this. I hope sony doesn’t loose business, because I want games for playstation in the future.
@serpx “they did one helluva a job…don’t piss off hackers” Don’t say that–it’ll just boost their egos and give them encouragement and attention they don’t deserve. I’m sure after seeing all the mayhem they’ve caused they’re already far too full of themselves; they’re probably half drowned in pride. I seriously hope they find whoever is responsible, so that justice may be had–no one should be complimenting or encouraging them by saying “they taught sony a lesson”, or “sony regrets this or that”, etc, after what they’ve done. We don’t need to glorify this anymore than we have already–hopefully Sony goes back online soon, we catch those responsible, and then it becomes a thing of the past: the hackers deserve no better.
@Goodman
I don’t think serpx was praising them in any way (at least, from my interpretation). He’s just stating the truth. Regardless of whether one is for or against the hackers, the fact is they pulled off a historical cybercrime.
