The Logic Behind the New Hope
Today, the website for the NiGHTS into Dreams 15th Anniversary campaign was updated with a new call to arms, rare since the campaign debuted during the middle of last year.
The campaign, which seeks a port of the original 1996 NiGHTS to current generation consoles, was invigorated with recent news that the Saturn era title Guardian Heroes will be ported and released to XBOX Live Arcade. To this point, most fans conceded Sega would pass over the Saturn era in porting and updating past titles, and that assumed the company had the internal knowledge to perform such ports in the first place.
“This pretty much proves that nothing is impossible!” said the statement in part. “So what’s stopping us guys from having our favourite game being made available on modern consoles too?”
“If this -did- happen and we got the original game ported imagine how many more new people would be introduced to NiGHTS into Dreams,” the statement continued. “The original game is remembered fondly for a reason. Don’t let a great title go to waste.”
To this point, the NiD 15 campaign has accumulated a touch under 5,000 supporters.

Why don’t they just import the ps2 port? It was pretty much perfect.

Simple, its a bit more complicated that just popping the disc in your system and go.
You either gotta mod it, buy a special disc and casing for disc swapping or you gotta buy a Jap. PS2 System. I´m sure there are a lot of people who really want to play it, but these things I listed probably might scare them off, depending on how much knowledge they have and so on.
So, playing the game on a current system (and potentially in HD) is just easier, uncomplicated. You just buy a points card, enter the code, download the game and BAM your good to go. Plus, like the Website says, many new people who haven`t tried it because they don’t have a Special PS2 or Saturn would get in touch with this game, and experience it for themselves.
So, in the end, its probably HD, new people, and the convenience (and the Birthday of the Franchise) that keeps people wanting this game for current gen systems.
I would buy it if it comes out, I mean, I have it for my Saturn, but imagine it in HD. Yummy! ^^

I hated NiGHTS:JoD people needed to be hunted down over that travesty.
SEGA better give me a port of NiGHTS:ID to wipe the crap sequel out my mind for good.
NiGHTS into dreams is a masterpiece of gaming history and strangely probably the greatest thing Sonic Team ever did… thats including “design Sonic” btw.

Eh, I wouldn’t go as far as to say THAT. Still, it’s a pretty good game, so I hope that this campaign actually pulls through.
The biggest mistake they made with NiGHTS:JoD was giving them voices. Terrible choices and accent… also the whole wii remote control was an annoying way to play imho.
Hey, I liked both NiGHTS games. I was actually suprised JoD was so close to the original in just about every way except the that the story was deeper, and even then it was an identical story. lol The voices were SIMILAR to the original even almost adding a distorted effect and having NiGHTS say “Watch It!” when getting hit! The gameplay was a little more difficult to control but was the exact same gameplay! And the music!
That being said, I currently only have access to JoD and I would like to actually OWN both of them. Porting the original would be really cool! I hope they do. :3
And to the 360!? JoD is for Wii. If I had this on 360 that’d be cool. NiGHTS on 2 different consoles. =D
I know it won’t happen, but I’d like to see a Nights stage in Sonic Generations.
Anyway, I DID import the PS2 game. Great port, they did a nice job. I’m sure that most people would appreciate easier access, though. A lot of Saturn games need re-releases. Sonic 3D Blast, Fighters Megamix, Bug! 1+2, Shining Force III, etc.
I wanna buy this game so bad… And no, I don’t feel like getting a new console/importing.
I got a feeling that NiGHTS into dreams taking the night into a new level. NiGHTS happened to be my top heroine. I really liked this girl.
