“One Step Forward” to Genesis
The milestone 225th issue of the Archie published Sonic comics will begin shipping to subscribers this week. A preview of the big issue has been afforded to IGN.
The issue marks the return of the Death Egg to Sonic’s universe, as well as the death of a major character. It is the prelude to the Genesis arc, which IGN says will “change Sonic’s world for good.” Ian Flynn penned the script. Tracy Yardley, John Workman, Matt Herms and Terry Austin handled the inside art, while Patrick Spaziante handled the cover.
That gategold cover and the first five pages of issue 225 follow Archie’s official synopsis.

The Death Egg is going to take everyone back in time??
“One step forward” . . . . . 20 steps back . . .
They better not kill Sally off.
Eeeewwww, non sonic game characters.
anyway, that “DEATH EGG” Looks cool, more egg shaped.
You know, every time I read something new like this involving Classic, or Genesis, I get more and MORE worried. I hope this just involves the Comic series, NOT THE VIDEO GAME SERIES!
@RogerMyers JR, sonic52789: It’s just the comic canon, dude. It’ll put an Archie spin on some of the games, but that’s as far as it’ll go, so just calm down, kthnx.
Character death was leaked. lol
Sorry Candy, but Im afraid its true. I have the spoiler images.
I know I’m late as hell on this but…when did Naugus get so tall? I know he was originally slightly taller than Sonic, but did they make him taller when Sonic got taller?
@AKnotholeResident Really then? Post them online and give me a link. And if it’s true… WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU IAN FLYNN!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a Sally fan boy. But I am a Sonic fan boy. And it would be the cruelest thing in the world if as soon as Sonic’s love life is perfect, Sally would die……
@csoniccolors
You asked it for. FOR ANYONE ELSE. THIS IS A LEAKED COMIC PAGE LINK. DO NOT CLICK IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILED ON ARCHIE’S SONIC #225.

!!!!!!!!! 1. F**K YOU IAN FLYNN!!!!! 2. Where did you find this? 3. I’m impressed….
Poor Sonic…. his life sucks…..
STILL FRICKIN PISSED OFF AT IAN FLYNN!!!! Does he hate Sonic or something?
Now we only need another 399 shitty friends dead. Well, one tiny step at a time.
I totally agree with that, but why Sally? In fact, all of the Knothole FF should stay! They are the only “classic” characters in the comic!
@Cassidy:
Hold on– that’s not PROOF that you-know-who you-know-what. Unless it outright says that they’re dead, I’m not believing it.
@Andre: What is with you and your vendetta against Sonic’s “shitty friends”? If you don’t like the comic, then don’t read it!
just got this in the mail today ( I have never gotten my issues day of preview pages before). Really good anniversary issue (I won’t spoil the issue, but Ian did pretty well for this milstone) It’s good seeing the FFs take on the Death Egg and kinda wasn’t expecting the conclusion.
@Kiwi555kiwi u actually hav a very good point, Sally may hav only gone in there and sonic thought she died….
I doubt it.
In an interview, Ian confirmed there would be a character death in 225, that it would be permanent, and that it would mean, for the series, that ‘nothing is sacred’.
Unless this is a trick, and she’s only appearing to die but someone else really IS dying, which is possible giving his writing style, Sally is done for.
@csoniccolors Yeah, I doubt that Archie would hack Sally off after both the fans and SEGA told them “No go” during the Endgame Saga. I have two top ideas as to who it is:
1. Nicole
She was the first person to come to mind when I first saw the alternate cover; the breaking glass/shield/fabric of the universe/whatever in the background behind Sonic reminded me of the nanite barrier that Nicole had placed around New Mobotropolis several times- if it was breaking apart, it would imply that she had destroyed (remember, she’s still an A.I.), or at least terribly damaged, and could no longer keep the shield up.
2. Hershey
I know that Geoffry has already stated that his wife has fallen, but he may not be entirely sure and is just trying not to get his hopes up (he’s a pessimist in that way.) Hershey could still be alive and well, doing whatever it was whe was ‘sposed to be doing there, but is killed during/before/after the launch of the Death Egg. Or it could be that she really died earlier, but remember how Sonic was off fighting Naugus when Geoffry told the rest of the Freedom Fighters about her death? Sonic didn’t hear him, and he could just be finding poor Hershey’s body. That could REALLY tie into the “Nothing is Sacrad” thing that Ian has takled about; I mean, finding a corpse of a friend possibly days after they’ve died? That’s pretty dark.
But, again, even if Sally DOES die in 225, and whether or not she comes back, she’ll still be in #226 and #227 at least.
just wanted to say kudos to Ian Flynn, the fact that this issue has pissed me off with its suspense and that cliffhanger means he’s doing hes job well
good show
i love Sally Acorn, i’d go as far as to say she’s my top sonic character other than the hedgehog himself though im liking how Ian’s ruffling some feathers
Remember Ya’ll No Comic Book is Permanent
@JimSweeney
And that’s exactly why comic books have become lame, they nothing but a farce a collection of fake deaths and story arcs and character development that get thrown away on the drop of a hat. I was never a fan of the last two seasons of LOST but I was nice that they lived up to “DEAD IS DEAD” with the cruel twist on the fate of John Locke and didn’t resort to the lame happy ending retcon even if the happy ending afterlife was lame.
Magneto’s a good example of what I loathe about comics, one day he is a deep layered villain that borders on anti-hero who’s progression to hero at times is logical then a hack writer comes and makes him vapid city destroying villain of the month and this all takes place in the same continuity.
well if Sally survives all this would this count as a “death-cheat” even tho we didn’t SEE Sally drop to the floor (unlike ENDGAME where she fell several stories AND survived thanks to a coffin like device that kept her in a coma, now THAT is a death-cheat). This seems like just your regular cliffhanger ending that all media seems to do to get u into buying or watching what happens next (hell SatAM ended on a cliffhanger!). People’s mileage may vary on what is thought of said cliffhanger but I guess u can’t fault what works……
@Andre
Way to be really ignorant and basically admitting that you haven read the comics at all
