And at “Relatively Low Cost,” It Appears

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Sega West head Mike Hayes confirms the company’s flagship hedgehog will indeed be a part of the upcoming Nintendo Wii U when it’s expected to release next year.

It’s how that’s sort of in question.  We neglect to use the term new immediately because, as you’ll see in the quote below, while the case of Aliens: Colonial Marines almost certainly suggests a straight port, whether that will hold true for future Sonic titles is up in the air:

That controller is absolutely brilliant and we have to think of innovative ways to use it. We’re doing high definition Sonics, we’re doing obviously Aliens: Colonial Marines, so you can bring them across, and that’s relatively low cost, which is good news. Then you spend your money on how do you use that controller effectively to make it unique and differentiate it.

If nothing else, Hayes’s words open the door for a consolidation and unification of sorts in Sonic games, with single titles being launched across all major platforms instead of several titles specific to an array of systems.  Thanks to all who sent this in via our News Tips system.
