Think You Know Green Hill Inside and Out? Maybe Not
Time and time again, with E3 behind us, we’ve seen both modern and classic Sonic speed through Sonic Generations‘s Green Hill stage with little variation.
The video we have below will be different. It’s from ConsoleCreatures.com, and it’s one of the better playthroughs we’ve seen. That’s not just because of the relatively clean and quick playtime; it’s also because we get to see plenty of alternate paths in both modern and classic areas. For example, for Modern Sonic, that bridge toward the end of the stage can be broken, and reveal a new area to explore, if only for a few seconds.
Check it out below.

I’m surprised Ceejus hasn’t made any unnecessary comments on what he calls “Sesame Street Sonic” story and cutscenes. I guess someone’s moving up in the world. But seriously, I’m not saying Sonic should be all about speed, speed, speed from point A to point B, there should definitely be some good platforming. However, without that whole “speed” element, Sonic becomes another uninspired Mario clone. And for the record, I’m not sure how I feel about how some fans like Nicochi and Phantom D’Epix (who may or may not be the same person, but I’m guessing the former) who feels Sonic should control like a ball in wide environments. I’d rather have a cross between Adventure style and Unleashed/Colors style Sonic gameplay.
Wow… Sonic’s end-screen moves are awesome! Watching the gameplay, though, makes me dizzy with vertigo… this is such a cool-looking game, but somehow, I think it would be too intense for me, especially the Modern Sonic stages. Whootness, though.
I think it’s a huge step and improvement over Colo(u)rs and it seems this could be good as Unleashed or even better Adding little twists and turns it looks really good I love the alternate paths this could be my next favourite main Sonic Game along with Unleashed
True enough, Sonic is about speed AND platforming, but what I was personally worried about was the last part of the triangle: ALTERNATE PATHS. Before I saw this video, I was afraid there wasn’t going to be any alternative routes to take, especially as modern Sonic. Unleashed and Colors weren’t exactly heavy on those elements. But seeing this, I’m nothing but relieved. THANK YOU FOR GETTING THE DAMN MESSAGE, SEGA.
