Think You Know Green Hill Inside and Out? Maybe Not
Time and time again, with E3 behind us, we’ve seen both modern and classic Sonic speed through Sonic Generations‘s Green Hill stage with little variation.
The video we have below will be different. It’s from ConsoleCreatures.com, and it’s one of the better playthroughs we’ve seen. That’s not just because of the relatively clean and quick playtime; it’s also because we get to see plenty of alternate paths in both modern and classic areas. For example, for Modern Sonic, that bridge toward the end of the stage can be broken, and reveal a new area to explore, if only for a few seconds.
Check it out below.

lol he got pwned by the very first badnik xD who hasnt? Im glad to see its really the GHZ we all know and love, simply re-mastered in HD. I wish I had an HD Console =w=
Wow, so many paths.
that bridge breaking thing was one of the first things I tried at sonic boom. Next was the spin dash drift. Both were awesome.
Time to save for a 360 dabbido, it s the less expensive hd console^^
Whoh man that bridge! Oh and the ground falling apart!! Modern Sonic is a huge step up from Unleashed in interaction! And I love the detail in the Animations!
@Dabbido: You don’t have an Xbox 360 or a PS3? How about a Wii? (even though Sonic Generations isn’t on the Wii)
Also, you don’t happen to have a DeviantART account, do you? ^^
I must say, I love that Crabmeat animation after it hits Sonic. Nice touches like that should be more often.
So nice to hear someone enthusiastic about the game talk about it. Most press guys sound like they’re monotonously reading from a script. Thanks Aaron.
Loved the rank get animations, did anyone noticed that both classic and modern finish the rank pose the same way but facing diffrent directions?
The S Rank animations were epic.
Both victory dances were priceless XD
Good god! Next we’ll find an alternate route into Narnia!
Witness the AWSOMENESS of SONIC
Bridge part = Mind blown
No thank you TO what i care about is alternate routes for City Escape If you’re gonna be Aaron’ Webbers Mole now at least man up and admit it.
@Manic:
… What are you talking about?
Manic the Hedgehog, making as much sense as Ceejus, which is little to none. Color me shocked.
@Manic the hedgehog:
No offense, but are you drunk?
wait…I thought we’ve seen these routes before???
Wait a minute. . . Manic’s the guy that was stammering about the Crash Bandicoot thing here, wasn’t he? XD Or was that somebody else? Sorry if it was somebody else. ^^;
@Jmack
I’m with you. I’ve seen all this before. I don’t consider any of this new except that it’s a new vid, but the bridge thing I’ve known for a week now and the alternate paths were nice. The ending animations don’t catch my attention much. Seems like filler to me. Certainly wouldn’t call a victory animation “epic”, considering the meaning of “epic” unless I were to fall onder the fad/trend. XD
Still a nice video, and we got to see Crabmeat laugh. lol :3
The last Classic Sonic level will be so sad, since he won’t appear again in any game. Also gameplay will be over.
Epic S rank animation is epic XD.
@Manic
You know, reading your comment again made it make more sense. So, I’ll interpret: Basically Manic wants to find a way around the City escape glitch and that not showing them that somehow makes GameCreatures a traitor for Webber. Still doesn’t make much sense.
@Amuro
Don’t even get me started on Ceejus. He’s just a troll for the sake of being a troll.
Hold on… Aaron is the guy doing this walkthrough.
The FLATNESS haunts me, Lily
. We played this in like 6th grade and it still doesn”t have any depth. ANd they PRAISE it Lily. They made colors, so they should go forward. Why couldn’t they have given me colors for yeas ago instead of tricking me into buying Shadow. That Carlos dude was right:
“And that’s why its all the more tragic that sonic has only come this far since 1991. I mean the Sonic magic was really strong up to 98 because the Sega dudes focused design efforts on smoother mechanics. I mean the fact that sonic 1 was designed to be a fast game meant that they were all ready a popular alternative to mario. SO If They were in a leauge beyond mario (sonic Adventure 2 vs any 3d mario in 2001), why would they focus on outdoing mario over anything? THey could create a series that rivals something like pixar or the action/platforming games. And why was it always like Sega Japan/Us trying to do it by themselves. Why not ask like John Romero or Tim Schafer or John fucking lasseter or fuckin ANYONE like that to help them bring their already billion dollar franchise into the 2000s and make it something?”
WtF NO thats not me. Jimmy’s a straw puppeter, in my name he is distorting my opinion and he mispelled the worrd 4. damn i
Kevin has sex with his mom and he likes it
As long as I do
blown I will keep typing foul things and defame your seed and tell people that your favortie charter is Chips.
Kevin’s gonna get banned >:)
Kevin’s gonna get banned >:)
Kevin’s gonna get banned >:)
Kevin’s gonna get banned >:)
He has to go to log off now so he can give me head and go to sleep. Be good sonicfags and ban him (VIn) right now. Bybye.
@Vin
……….what?
What kind of biblical disaster happened in the comments here because holllllllly shit!
Anyway hope the demo comes out next week
The comments here are just….. wow.
Anywho, I hope that the gameplay is jut like Unleashed except with better controls and more than two alternate paths, which it probably will be. If the story is just as good as Unleashed’s, this could be tied for my favorite game!
@Vin ………what….the…..fuck!
I have to admit SEGA, I’m actually really excited for this game, it looks VERY fun! Can’t wait!
Also, I like how in Green Hill if you perform a certain amount of combo moves, Sonic does the Sonic Adventure pose
I wonder if in other stages he does other famous poses!
FINALLY, someone at Sonic Team gets the picture! 1:35 – 1:40.
“Many people think Sonic is just about speed, but if you remember, Sonic is very much about platforming, which is what we’re doing right now.” Thank you, Aaron Webber! It’s about time someone besides myself pointed out this important fact.
It seems no one agrees with that, otherwise more people would have liked Sonic 4. That’s the biggest problem with Generations — the modern Sonic stages. Speed, speed, speed. Sonic is not only about putting an emphasis on speed and nothing else. Classic Sonic is about a mix of speed, platforming, and precision control. Modern Sonic is about speed, memorizing stages, trial and error gameplay, and severe lack OF control.
They went back to Sonic’s true roots with the Classic 2D Sonic, why couldn’t they have done the same with the 3D Sonic? What they should have done was brought back the old 3D physics and gameplay from the Sonic Adventure series (except made it good instead of screwing it up and giving it a bad name like they did with Sonic 2006), NOT the crappy speed-only new physics.
Well, that’s it for me again. *Poof*
^ Y’ know, it would be so much easier to take you seriously if you weren’t such a troll. Just sayin’.
@Ceejus
Why return to the Adventure formula for Modern when the Unleashed formula is really pushing for more platforming elements than the outdated Adventure formula ever had lately, and is just so much better recieved overall, anyway? We’d all rather they don’t jump into wide-open 3D realms again unless they have a clue what they’re doing, which they probably woulden’t have without years of toying with it constantly just so Sonic dosen’t fly through walls every few seconds, anyway. And why do that when they could just work on giving the Unleashed formula more platforming elements?
S4Ep1 had less platforming than even the speed-fests of Sonic 2, both Rush titles, and Colours DS. Defend an actual platformer, it might help kill your troll-ness.
@Ceejus
You ALSO must realize of course that Sonic, in addition to platforming, HAS been about speed, at least compared to Mario. Platforming is nice, but if its all im doing, then i may as well be playing a mario game.
@Ceejus
In other words, there needs to be a good compromise between the two. Personally, i thing Generations fixes this problem by having classic sonic have about 30& Speed, and 70% platforming, and modern sonic, vice-versa.
@Ceejus
Both you and Aaron are wrong. Sonic isn’t ABOUT platforming it’s about speed. Momentum is merely the method they’ve decided to use the most to represent speedy gameplay. Sonic is in the platformer genre so there should be platforming unless it’s a Sonic game of a different genre, in which speed should be applied to that different genre’s style of gameplay.
Sonic isn’t ABOUT platforming, but yes it should be there. But no, jumping on a box is no thrill. You must set it up cleverly, just like all of Sonic’s abilities should come to use cleverly. This is what Aaron really means, he just said it in the language the fanbase can actually comprehend, which is difficult to do. lol
Plus, MANY ppl have stated this already. So don’t act like you’re the only one. lol
@Anonymouse
But the Adventure series had more exploration and creative level designs. I think it’d be best to do one more Adventure series game, and the let that be the end of it while making new games in the style of Unleashed/Colors and some games in the Adventure series style, eventually making a game that combines both style into 1 gameplay legitimately as that sounds like it’d be the most fun, challenging yet creative. =)
But more importantly, I think it would have been better had they included Adventure series gameplay in Generations. Particularly with a third Adventure era Sonic. We’d get to see all 3 styles of gameplay and that’d be even more nostalgic as you’d experience more memories and have more levers. lol Or at least more varierty.
Hot. Damn.
I don’t know if this is worth pointing out or not, but he said “go back in time to save his friends…”
@fox boy – yeah. Classic sonic appears in the classic era, modern sonic from the modern era finds him, but the 3 eras in the game is classic, dreamcast, and modern, where’s dreamcast sonic?
I think Adventure Sonic should be there but I don’t trust SEGA with the Adventure-style gameplay anymore because of ’06 and Shadow. @Sonic52789 By the looks of this game, apparently Dreamcast Sonic is essentially Modern Sonic. As for Modern-style gameplay, I’d love it if there was a more open space for you to explore AND speed through.
In addition to generations PS3, I’m getting colours and unleashed for the wii. I also wanna get either rings or knight… which one is better?
@ Shan the hedgehog
I say that Black Knight is better…in terms of gameplay and story.
