What Would You Pay to Own a Couple Signatures?
And now, something that likely will tank in value once Saturday’s Summer of Sonic is over.
You’re looking at the front and back cover to the Japanese edition of the 1991 Sonic the Hedgehog. A copy surfaced on Ebay this week. The game and instruction manual come with it, so what makes this so special?
“This is a one of a kind copy of the original Japanese Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega MegaDrive signed by both Yuji Naka and Hirokazu Yasuhara,” says the California based seller. “The game has been opened in order to be signed, but has not been used otherwise.”
How much is the seller asking? Right now, you can bid on the item for the low, low price of $2,500. If you’re scared the price will shoot up, you might as well Buy it Now for a mere $6,000. No matter what, shipping is an extra five bucks.
Or, you can just take your copy of the game and have Yuji Naka sign it Saturday at SOS. You’re not going? Well, we hope you didn’t really fall in love with that sports car.
Bidding ends late Sunday night.

t-that is a lot of money O.o ….and yeah like tristan said, might as well just take yours and bring it to Naka at the SoS. though….6000$….I could get a thousand Sonic the hedgehog 1 cartridges with that much money
Seller has no idea that it would be cheaper just to fly out to London and get a sig yerself on Saturday. Plus you can have fun on top of everything else.
Uh no… $6000 is sooooo not worth it. I could pay off the van, get a new computer built, have groceries for a month, etc etc.
This isn’t worth $6000, no where even close.
Whoa! An over priced game cartridge with writing on it! MUST BUY!
Lol, wow – still, I’m sure it’ll go to a good home. : D
I’d buy that for a dollar!
I can buy used vehicles for cheaper than this. Christ almighty who would want to buy this?
It’d have to be signed by God himself before I’d pay more than ten bucks for this.
Wow, I wish it was cheaper.
WOW, I would SOOOOOOO buy this….
If I was retarded lol
Yeaaaaaah, no. Haha.
In about 3 hours or less, it’ll be OVER $9000!!!
Instant fly to londen with all my sonic cartridges. I smell easy money xD
1. Sonic cartridges.
2. Naka and Yasuhara signatures.
3. ????
4. Profit.
Problem?
I’d die to have that. If I win the lottery in the next few hours Ill go buy it. xD
What idiot would play that? Seriously. It took me a little while to even find Naka’s signature on it.
Waste of money.
If that is a geniune Yuji Naka signature, then why sell it? it’s unique, dude…
@Dr.Eggfang
HAHAHA!!! Robocop reference ftw!!!
This is wasting money , i wonder if someone will really buy it
…are you fucking kidding me? Who in their right mind would wanna buy that? I’m a big sonic fan, but i draw the line at $100 let alone $6000. Plus it’s just Sonic 1 with some Sharpie on it. If i wanna play Sonic 1, I’ll bust out my classic collection. Signatures aren’t THAT expensive
I’m so buying this cuz I’m a millionaire and I can afford to buy it for $60 000! XD
That’s a lot of money
LOL No. Nice try Naka.
That’s just plain ridiculous, I’m sorry.
Nice, too bad most of the lottery winners aren’t Sonic fans XD
6,000 bucks and you can say, “Hey guys, Yuji Naka signed this.” and they’d be like “Cool.” (or “who?”) and you’d be like “yeah…” and wonder why you didn’t spend the money on something actually worth several grand.
That’s suspicious..
since, how we know it is a real sign, and not a hand-drawn fake?
I already have a copy of Sonic 1. I’m not gonna pay money to have writing on it just cuz it was performed by the guy… the programming of the game was by the guy. That’s good enough for me. lol
Now if it was a really famous actor and he signed something that could be worth money for having his/her signature on it then maaaaaybe. But if I’m never gonna sell it then wtfno. XD
Cool beans, yo, but not interested.
I’d rather have the pal version signed. But either way, it’s a ridiculous price to pay!
I would love this and would totally get it….if I was stinking rich. As is, I’m not crazy enough to buy a signed piece of paper that costs a ridiculous amount of money. Congrats to whoever does buy it, though.
@Chaos_Controller
LOL! South park reference!
Looking at it a little bit closer, are you guys sure it’s Naka’s signature?
I mean, just compare it:

0-0″ Holy… I don’t know whether to squeal that such an item is available for purchase/auction, or gasp at the price..
Looks cool. But its in Japanese and I wouldn’t want to buy something I couldn’t read.
Wow, everybody’s commenting for the prize.
The price is either a joke or it’s real. If it’s a joke, then that’s cool. If it’s real, then they’re really out of their right mind. 6000$? Try more like, let’s say, 60$.
@Cole
No? It’s just a discussion….
I still think the seller is a retard, demanding ludacris amount of money. Shadow Remix and I are collectors, but we’re not desprete. Besides, I already got THREE of Naka’s signatures, and photo proof that he signed it.
Too bad the prize has already been won. =)

I feel a mixture of pity and happiness to the person who actually gets that. Assuming someone actually does. Pitiness for wasting their money, happiness for getting something like that.
Coming soon: Sonic 4 signed by Takashi Iizuka.
=D
@Stan: You get a free pet green-eyed hedgehog complete with a lifetime supply of speed boosters.
To be perfectly honest, I don’t think Yuji Naka-sama signed that copy at all. As a fellow egocentric person, I would sign my own name larger than that.
And the fact that I was a part of Sonic Team at time of signing.
Sweet!
The only person who’d even consider this plausible is Yuji Naka himself. I mean, its not like he’s a celebirty whose signature you can parade around your town with. And like FTA said, you can just barely see Naka’s signature in the first place.
@Amuro
Also, you get the magical ability to WALK ON WALLS! Like fucking Spiderman.
I’m the one who sold it. It’s 100% authentic so chill out. I was asking for a fair amount if you actually know anything. I wish didn’t have to sell it but things happen in life and I was in need of money. That was my most cherished possession and I hope it brings as much joy as it gave me to the bidder who won it.
