Unexpected Move Following Stern Forum Warning
This morning, without warning, the top Sonic research site Sonic Retro was pulled offline. All aspects of the website, including the Wiki, forums, and front page, are down.
“Sonic Retro is down until further notice,” read a terse message on the page’s Twitter feed.
It’s not clear what’s behind the move, be it temporary maintenance, a malicious attack, or something else. However, we should note that late last night, Sonic Retro head Courtney Grimes issued a warning that advised Retro’s forumers to “stop harassing Sega employees,” and not to bother company members with their personal projects.
We’re trying to track down the full text of that warning, but in paraphrasing, Grimes said such actions have repercussions on the whole of Retro, and warned of consequences if anyone on the site was identified engaging in such behavior in the future.
It’s not clear if that warning and this downtime are related, but if you can help us find or provide the full text of that message, please send us a News Tip. Should this be for an extended period, we hope to bring you more on why as we learn it.

It’s also worth mentioning that they’ve been having lots of site stability issues for weeks, if not months.
well that didnt last long
Retro is down? YAY!
Yeah, I don’t really like Retro. Well, at least the forums. Their database on the games is extraordinary, but I hate the forums and the mods.
God! SEGA is offline, Retro is offline. What next Sonic Stadium? I hope not where will we talk with Sonic fans? TSSZ please check your defences, better be prepared if Retro issue was hackers attack.
Crap that sucks. Hopefully it’s nothing too serious and I wish them the best of luck fixing things–it’s never fun when a website goes down.
I agree with this:
“stop harassing Sega employees,”
Sega only need create a good technical game with essence (aka sonic colors), and not listen fans.
Example: “I hate crisis city, the game is bad”
Lucas Hinz: Legitimate complaints about games and level choices is not what Scarred Sun was talking about, and you know that.
I suspect this has more to do with Jack Skellinghog bothering Naoto Ohshima over Facebook continually, in order to impress everyone. Guess it had an opposite effect!
Obviously this is a sign.
We must resurrect alt.fan.sonic-hedgehog
@Amuro The forums aren’t that bad, they just get a bad rap sometimes.
@Lucase Umm…are you talking about Sonic 2006? There was a lot more wrong with that game than Crisis City. If you’re talking about (secret spoiler stuff) then…um…
@Lucas: The whole game sucks balls. Sonic 2006 has so many glitches, plotholes, and unnecessary parts, it’s not even funny. 2006 was a let-down, no if’s, and’s, or but’s.
Looks like you didn’t get it, Lucas was trying to say that some people hate Generations just because it contains a level from Sonic 2006 , Although Crisis city is actually a good level!
MH MD
Exactly
Thanks
Damn… thats a bummer i hope they come back soon lol, every time i log in i go straight to retro and here hoping to get my daily dose of blue blur.
@MH HD: I hated Crisis City too. Fuck that level.
@ Amuro
Plotholes? Explain. And just because you don’t like it, doesn’t mean others don’t like it. I know, a lot of people hate the game. But, a lot of people like the game. Hey, it was my first 360 game. The likabiltiy depends on your game preferences.
there were some plotholes in 06. The biggest were the Chaos Emeralds and the time travel crap intertwined meaning some the emeralds couldn’t have been collected in prevoius games if u think about it.
@cole
true.
My first actual game was jak and daxter, so that’s why i like sonic heroes (gameplay is awesome for me, but cut scenes were so cheesy that i went like FUUU.) and unleashed. Plus sonic heroes was my first sonic game. my 2nd “game” was sonic mega collection plus so im kind of a bit of a neutral fan.
Some of the plotholes in Sonic 2006:
When Silver gives the Chaos Emerald to Elise after Aquatic Base, that pretty much wipes out Sonic history in a whole, because Sonic would’ve never been able to turn Super. Ever.
Whenever a Chaos Control-induced time warp throws Sonic & friends through time, they all end up in the same place. When it happens to Shadow, Rouge, Silver, and Blaze, they end up in different places.
Why does Mephiles need Silver to kill Sonic when it’s seen that he could EASILY DO IT HIMSELF. And, while we’re on the topic of Sonic’s death, why did he get distracted by SOMETHING SHINY after all the shit that’s gone down in previous games?
When time and space get fucked over due to the rebirth of Solaris, how come every main character is present other than Blaze?
Why did Amy mistake Silver for Sonic when the two clearly LOOK NOTHING ALIKE?
And also, if Sonic was rushing towards Soleanna to save Elise, then how’d he get beat by Tails and Amy, who are shown to be slower than he is?
And yes, I don’t like 2006. I understand that other people like it. Why? I’ll never understand. But if someone says that there is nothing wrong with Sonic 2006, I have a list of everything wrong with the game in both chronological and alphabetical order.
“I suspect this has more to do with Jack Skellinghog bothering Naoto Ohshima over Facebook
continually, in order to impress everyone. Guess it had an opposite effect!”
Yeah I bothered him by sending him one message getting a positive reply and then chatting with him for a bit. You did make me laugh though, thanks.
Guilty pleasure xp
@ Amuro
The Amy thing? Well, it’s just her recurring motivish thing. (SA2, remember?)
I respect your opinion. You had good points about the plotholes. Sonic likes shiny things, lol.
Hmmm I don’t really like Retro either so Woop Woop?….But strange this has happened I wonder who will be next? First Sega now Retro….This is getting dodgy and quite scary Hopefully everything will be more positive and brighter in the near future….I hope
@Cole Alleman
Did you enjoy it….as your first expierience?….Just curious that’s all
Ever since sony, there has been lots of attacks going on. I hope they find these people and put them in jail
Crisis City IS a good level, it was the best level in sonic 2006 actually, but the game didn’t help at all, so i am glad that they will remake the level in Unleashed style, it will be excellent! its not bad just because the game was bad!
There is no blue emerald paradox, I’m amazed how many people can’t understand how time-travel is supposed to work.
Silver bringing the blue Chaos Emerald back in time means there are two blue emeralds. In the exact same way as, if you went back in time yourself, you could meet your younger self. There are two of you. Similarly, there are two blue emeralds: One the Sonic gang has been using, and one Elise had.
It’s really simple. I don’t understand how people still consider it a “paradox”, after five years.
Stop apologizing for terrible writing in a terrible game.
Somehow the blue emerald is sent back in time while being in the special stages for Sonic to collect at the same time. LOST is guilty of this too so they are not alone in the ploory planed out use of time travel camp.
@ K-Y
On the Xbox, yes. I enjoyed it as a first when I got my 360. I’m still proud I have no red ring of death yet, though.
Oh yeah. And about the blue emerald paradox, technically the events of the game were erased so Silver never did erase the past.
The Blaze thing: She sealed herself in another dimension at the end of Silver’s story. She was gone after that.
Time Warp thing: Eggman’s machine only covers time, so they would end up in the same place. Chaos Control, as said by Shadow, controls time and space. That explains why they appear in different places.
For the Mephiles thing: He was busy fighting Shadow throughout the story, wasn’t he?
The Soleanna thing: They could have gotten there before, but that’s unlikely.
It looks like everyone here subscribes to my* “Timeless Emerald” theory. The theory states that the Chaos Emeralds exist in all times, at all times. Therefore, whenever an Emerald is moved from one timeline to another, the ‘new’ one replaces the ‘old’ one, the ‘old’ one taking the place of the new ‘one’. (i.e. CE Blue is moved from 2006 to 1996, 1996 CE Blue disappears and reappears in 2006.) The theory that the Emeralds replace each other comes from the thought that the Sonic crew would have found an 8th (9th, 10th, ect.) Chaos Emerald by now if it existed. The major problem with this line of thought though is that it creates the possibility of the Blue Emerald Paradox.
*I came up with it and named it, but someone else probably thought of it first.
@ Amuro
You’re right about the Amy thing though.
Also, did you get those points from FindTheComputerRoom’s “The Many Mistakes of Sonic 06″?
Stop bitching about Sonic 2006 and let’s start wondering where the hell else we have to go for feedback.
With the forums -still- down we can’t even chat about Generations just by the demo anymore or ANYTHING Generations related because the forums on SEGA’s site is down.
*sigh* I just want to put in my 2 cents…dammit.
@sonichedgehog: How did you know?
@Unknownlight: Okay, smart guy, then where was the second blue Emerald when Elise and the others try to revive Sonic?
@ Amuro
I’ve seen it too.
Lol. Making sense of Sonic 2006′s story is turning out to be a difficult task.
Also, @sonichedgehog:
“The Blaze thing: She sealed herself in another dimension at the end of Silver’s story. She was gone after that.”
But Solaris’s rebirth is fucking over all of time and space. No escape.
“Chaos Control, as said by Shadow, controls time and space. That explains why they appear in different places.”
But when Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles use it, they end up in the same part of Soleanna, not even a foot away from each other.
“For the Mephiles thing: He was busy fighting Shadow throughout the story, wasn’t he?”
No, he was also manipulating Silver, and he can control time on top of that.
The Soleanna thing: They could have gotten there before, but that’s unlikely.”
Sonic is the fastest thing alive. ‘Nuff said.
What paradoxes is the “Timeless Emerald” theory supposed to solve? It creates the Blue Emerald Paradox, but doesn’t seem to fix anything else.
@Dr.Eggfang: You negatively responded to me without even reading my very short post. You responded for the sole purpose of provoking an argument. You are trolling, by definition. Stop it.
@Amuro: There’s only two emeralds in the past. One of them is sent back in time by Silver. Therefore, there’s only one blue emerald in play during the latter bit of the game.
Seriously, follow the path. It all makes sense, if you pay attention.
@Unknownlight: I pay attention to the story. The problem is, Sega did a shitty job at telling the story.
Wow, you check up on an article a little while later and it’s gone from Sonic Retro being down to the many wonders of the plot of 06. Amazing how things can change haha.
@Amuro
You hate crisis city? Why? i thought it was the best level in the game (even though that really isn’t saying much). i was THRILLED to hear it was going to be in generations, when the level list was leaked. now we can see a tornado carry a car in high definition, hedgehog-engine graphics!
Because of the cheap ass Mach Speed Zone. Just TRY and defend the cheap camera angles, dramatically increasing speed, and the sheer amount of shit being thrown at you in that section. JUST TRY TO DEFEND THAT.
Yes, because of that ONE segment of Crisis City, I hate the WHOLE FUCKING LEVEL.
I think the ’06 conversation started with Lucas. Lol. As for Crisis City: After a couple tries, I was actually able to do the super speed section with no damage.
@Amuro
Well…Shadow’s story was cool.
@Unknownlight
It makes the story as a whole make more sense. I’m trying to remember specifics, but when someone shot down my theory a long time ago with the “Blue Emerald Paradox” I kinda stopped thinking about it. If you care enough, you could watch a playthrough with that in mind and see what you think. I’m going to do that and try to remember specifics.
If anyone has the new version of Megamix and a Sonic Stadium Message Board (SSMB) account, then click my username and PM me. A lot of us want to play this game…
If there’s one thing I hate more than Sonic 06 it’s hearing people SPEAK of Sonic 06. Fuck that noise.
lol… People are trying to make sense of a storyline in a sonic game. The writers of these games put almost zero effort into their work and yet you’re going back and forth as if there’s any real thought and intelligence used to create these stories.
The easiest way to make sense of a “story” in a Sonic is like this: Don’t bother trying to make sense of it, the writers sure hadn’t bothered when creating it, so why are you?
@sonichedgehog
…You lie… XD
