Takes Over 20% Market Share
Andriasang reports some very good news for Sega: The company was the top revenue generator among all game publisher in Japan for the month of June. This, according to the latest Famitsu.com analysis.
With its 20.9% market share, Sega even beat out Nintendo making bread for the month, and by a sizeable margin. Nintendo, at the second spot, claimed a 14.8% market share.
Much of the success can be attributed to a high price point for Yakuza of the End, which sold about 376,000 units in Japan last month. The latest Yakuza sold on PS3 for ¥7,980, the quivalent of over $100 in US money. In contrast, the next highest seller, Nintendo’s 3DS rendition of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, sold at a ¥4800 price point, or over $60 in US money.

Aboard thats a lot of money for 1 game. (Yakuza). Anyways, damn Sega kicked ass! It was sizeably higher than Nintendo which really shocks me
Wow, that’s great to hear. If SEGA can keep this up, well…who knows! =D
Ok I meant to say Whoa instead of “aboard” I was typing on a droid and must have hit some wrong keys
If SEGA keeps up maybe we will see SEGA console in 10 years!
SEGA does what Nintendon´t! : D
^ Beat me to it xp
^ you both beat me to it!
yea kicking nintendo ass like in the old days
Looks like a very serious case of ass-kicking
Dreamcast 2 in ten years or more keep making good games
Sweet! Thats great!
Beat us to it, ObiV
@Thomas
No… I don’t see “GameCube 2″ anywhere. The only “1, 2, 3″ out there is PlayStation.
I’d see SEGA making a completely new name for a new console. Also, SEGA is an arcade company first. The only made consoles for a bit and stopped. Then they focussed on arcade again and that’s where this “Ring” series is coming from. So their consoles is still less of a focus for them but I do see them making one again someday once they work their way up. Tho hopefully Sonic won’t JUST be on their own console if they do. I’m tired of these exclusives making ppl buy who new systems for 1 game. xD
Still, good job SEGA. You’re rising to success again. =) I wonder what Generations will do for you. xD
Wait, why the hell are we even saying “Sega does what Nintendon’t”? Are you guys just saying it because they BEAT Nintendo at something?
“SEGA does what Nintendon’t”
Do you guys think Nintendo has heard this yet? Lol.
YEAAAHHH SEGA, THAT’S MY HARDCORE COMPANYY!! Although SEGA will be totally screwed when that new HD Mario game will come out…probably in 2013…(Not Super Mario Bros. Mii, its gonna be a different game.)
As much as I would LOVE to see another SEGA console, I don’t think its a good idea..for right now. Think of it, SEGA has a very nice relationship with Sony and Microsoft, but best of all, Nintendo. And probably the ONLY closest relationship Nintendo has w/anybody, it would be SEGA. You don’t see Mario and Halo together, or Mario and that brown guy from Little Big Planet. Instead we all see Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog together
id rather not go on, but point is, right now SEGA has good relationships with a lot of companies, and I don’t think they should hurt their chances by making one in a couple of years. Maybe 10 years is good for SEGA. Then they could go back to the console business, and start friendly rivalries towards Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony
“Are you guys just saying it because they BEAT Nintendo at something?”
………….uh…yes? Why the fuck wouldn’t we? That’s the whole point of the phrase.
@Haru
Shouldn’t the ONLY reason of saying that be that Sega DOES SOMETHING THAT NINTENDO HASN’T DONE YET?
@ObiVanHelgen
Perfect statement! =)
But looking at SonicGo!’s comment, Sega fans will just say it any chance they get, whether it makes sense or not.
New console here we come!
