No In-Show Presence; Instead, a “Pop-Up Arcade”
Tickets the San Diego Comic Con are always a hot commodity; they typically sell out within days, if not hours. That’s what makes Sega’s “presence” at the show announced today via press release that much more appealing to those who can’t be at the show itself, and that much more clever a move on the company’s part.
That’s because Sega won’t actually be at the show with a proper booth. Instead, the company announced a SEGA Arcade at space they’ve temporarily rented about two blocks from Comic-Con central. All major upcoming Sega titles, including Sonic Generations and Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, will be there, and they will be playable.
The press release also states an unannounced game will also make its debut at the exhibition. A lot of people have been scratching their heads as to the progress or even existence of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II, so this may be something to watch out for. We’ll also have to see if an updated build from Sonic Generations shows up. As it stands now, however, this event will mark the first public demo for M&S 2012.
If you’re in the area and plan to go, Sega will set up shop at 345 6th Street, between K Street and J Street in San Diego. The arcade will open on Wednesday and remain open until Sunday at various hours. Full details are in the press release below.
SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced that fans will get a chance to play SEGA’s upcoming fall and spring releases in SEGA’s limited-time-only pop-up arcade at the Comic-Con International 2011 in San Diego. The company is setting up its own SEGA Arcade space near the convention center and will have a number of its highly anticipated titles playable for all, including Sonic Generations™, Rise of Nightmares™, Captain America: Super Soldier™ and an all new unannounced game. Comic-Con marks the first time the public can get their hands on many of these games before their releases later this year.
The list of games playable at SEGA Arcade in San Diego includes:
- Captain America™: Super Soldier
- House of the Dead: OVERKILL™ – Extended Cut
- Guardian Heroes™
- Rise of Nightmares™
- Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games™
- Renegade Ops™
- Shinobi™
- Sonic Generations™
- and more!
Location:
- 345 6th Avenue (between K Street and J Street) in San Diego, California
Hours:
- Wednesday, July 20th from 7-pm-11pm
- Thursday, July 21st through Saturday, July 23rd from 1pm – 9pm
- Sunday, July 24th from 11am-7pm

Unannounced game? … possibilities.
Unannounced game huh? OH GOD ITS SHENMUE 3!!
Nah but seriously, I want it to be something unexpected like A NEW JET SET RADIO!! Sonic 4 would be ok but I’d definately rather have A NEW JET SET RADIO!! (Maoe it happen Sega)
Sonic Shuffle 2 for the Wii-U !!!!!
I’d go ape if it was a new Jet Set Radio. XD
@Sideshowshayne I agree.
Guess we’ll find out next week =3
Jet Set Radio please!!!!
Guys, i hate to break it to you but it’s likely going to be this:
http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/15/aliens-infestation-is-a-side-scrolling-action-game/
Let’s try to keep our expectations in check, hopefully I’m wrong.
Episode 2?
Maybe Sonic Generations on Vita?
But yeah probably what sonikdude101 said.
i dont think its episode II, because techinically it was announced and was said to be in development. But that could apply to games that weren’t officially announced. What im saying is…..I have no fucking idea
Why do I have a feeling Sideshowshayne is going to be mentioning a bad game like Sonic Shuffle for ten articles?
Wait, if people actually KNOW about Aliens: Infestation, doesn’t that mean it was announced?
Plus, they said they were announcing 3 SONIC titles. . . the first one Was Sonic Generations. Next Was M&S at the London Olympic Games (although it was implied before Sonic Generations). That means the last Sonic title is unannounced. Chin up, everyone.
@BrandonTH
So it couldn’t be Sonic 4 Episode 2 since that was announced?
What about that seperate Sonic 3DS game that’s not Sonic Generations 3D or M&S 3DS?
New Sonic game?
PLEASE BE SONIC CHRONICLES 2. PLEASE, SEGA, HEAR MY PRAYERS.
Sonic 4 Episode II would be okay, but after Sonic Generations was announced my interest for Sonic 4 pretty much disappeared.
A new Jet Set Radio would be pretty awesome though.
@ Shadow34:
No.
@Stephan: If you hold Sega to their every word, you will find it’s dreadfully inconsistent :p Needless to say, it could either be Sonic 4 Episode 2 or another, entirely new Sonic game. .
And I think Sonic Chronicles 2′s development stopped because of EA getting a hold of Bioware.
@SomeDudeOnTheNet
Some of us like a change in gameplay and a good story with many characters instead of the current formula: Sonic runs through Zones, Sonic battles bosses, Sonic beats Eggman, Sonic saves world. Fans of the classic games aren’t the only ones who Sega should have to please, so I don’t mean to sound harsh, but please get over it.
@Shadow34 Yes.
I want either Sonic 4 episode 2 or Virtua Fighter 6….
@Shadow34:
It was a soul-less, generic RPG; It had dull, generic gameplay, it had bad graphics (particularly the character models, and they were BAD, even by the DS’s standards…) with an unoriginal storyline that ripped off Archie Comics’ Knuckles Spin-Off series, and most of the music sucks. Then there’s that pathetically easy anti-climatic final boss. The game lacked depth and didn’t really have any replay value other than replaying the story from the beginning again (with no chapter select, either). The game also isn’t canon because Sonic Team didn’t work on it. Also, it’s unlikely for them to make a sequel since the game bombed; especially in Japan, and the writer of the said Knuckles Comic is suing SEGA and EA for ripping off his story in Chronicles. Oh btw, I like most of the modern games. I just happen to not like chronicles.
I think its the 3rd storybook game
Sonic and the Sparkly Vampires
@darkgomugomu
HEEEEEEEELL no… XD
This video sums Chronicles up nicely:

@darkgomugomu:
LOL!
@SomeDudeOnTheNext
So we shouldn’t listen to a majority of the critics who say it’s decent?
“Sonic & the Little Red Ridding Hood” starring Sonic the Werehog as Big Bad Wolf, Dr.Eggman as Granny, Shadow as the hunter and the main star of the game and only playble character: Amy Rose as Red Ridding Hood!
Make this happen Sega XD
@Idunno
Dear God, I’m getting sick of playing as Shadow. I want to play a SONIC game.
Sonic and…The Goddess of Chaos… Sonic teams up with Pit and Palutena to stop Eris and her army from taking over the world. But only Sonic is a playable character.
Dear God, I’ve been playing too much Kid Icarus this month! XD
@Stephan I said Amy was the only playble character not Shadow.
@Idunno
Misread it. Sorry. Don’t really like playing with her either ever since I played Adventure a day ago.
I’ll give you a hint, it’s a sports game…
@58SllugDrones
…I swear, if it’s a 2K game, I’m gonna rage like Giga Bowser. XD
@Stephan:
I’m merely stating my opinion of the game. I’m not saying it is a fact. Also most critics brought up some of the points about the game I have just made. Game critics’ reviews are never something to go by, because what they say is not fact. It is an opinion. Nothing more. I’m not saying you can’t like the game, I’m saying the game is not likely to get a sequel because of the fact that the game sold poorly world wide, and it flat-out bombed in Japan; it being a mediocre game doesn’t help matters.
Episode 2…
Oh, it could also be sonic storybook 3 for the Wii U!!!
It’s most likely probably going to be Sonic 4: Episode II.
A new JSR? That would friggin’ awesome, but Smilebit, the developer for the two games, went defunct 2 years after JSRF’s release (that game got poor sales BTW).
Chronicles 2? Bioware (the developer of the game) is owned by EA, so that’s not going to happen.
It could also be one of those Sonic games Sega’s Mexico rep hinted at (3rd Storybook game, 4th Sega Superstar/SaS game).
Sonic and the high pitched singer that says “BABY BABY BABY OHHH!”
Sonic has to make him never sing never, so he has to go through annoying fangirls to get to him XD.
Make it happen! Just kiddin.
In my personal opinion, I suspect its too soon for yet another Sonic game to be announced. We’re still waiting for Generations and M&S to come out.
“Sonic 4 Episode II would be okay, but after Sonic Generations was announced my interest for Sonic 4 pretty much disappeared.”
Holy shit, are you me?
@Stephan Hell yes I will.
I demand that Sega recognizes Tails Sky Patrol, and make a Stage of it for Generations.
Sega have said an unannounced game will be making its debut, so that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s playable. It could just be a teaser trailer.
A new Jet Set Radio would make me piss my pants
3 times
@Shadow34
Your statment is THE BEST COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE!
Sadly SEGA only cares about retro fans and new fans that are childreen in majority.
I would welcome new Sonic Chronicles but that probably wont happen. I want to see a game with slower formula where enemies ARE ENEMIES NOT OBSTACLE OR HIT POINT and serious story with some lighthearted moments like 65%serious 35%lighthearted or 75% and 25% but I want to please everyone. Story involving at least 6 playable characters my list:
-Sonic
-Tails
-Knuckles
-Shadow
-Silver
-Blaze
A gameplay that use their special abilities to defeat enemies and discover their own unique ways of clearing a stage and some good vs.Character bosses those are my favourite but of course include normal bosses.
Thats my dream list for next game after Generations that should be published on all HD consoles including WiiU. (I am PS3 user)
HD version of Sonic 1,2,3, and Sonic & Knuckles (+ lock-on technologies) and maybe some bonus games (Knux in Sonic 1 XD) with 3D models,etc. would be awesome.
Sorry for double comment but I need to point few things.
First guys SEGA never said that there will be 3 Sonic games this year. They said that we “can expect 3 major annoucments early this year” I think annoucment of Sonic Generations 3DS was prrety much 3rd annoucment because it was annouced separrtly from HD version.
Second
@Stephan
If you can play as Sonic its Sonic game (excluding smash. Bros.). People want to play as different characters than Sonic. My dream game would have 6 playables listed above.
@SA3 2011
But I don’t want to play as a character that COMPLETELY different from Sonic’s gameplay. I’ve gotten awfully sick of games like that.
