A Revised History of Being Blue
It is perhaps a month behind schedule, but Sega today released a short video marking Sonic’s 20 years in gaming.
Available for viewing below, it’s only 3:15 in length, and what was left out may be as interested as what was left in. A lot of Sonic’s side adventures are completely absent from the commemoration, including Sonic Spinball, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic R, and more recently, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and the entire Sonic Riders franchise. While Sonic & The Secret Rings was included, its successor Sonic & The Black Knight was not. Shadow the Hedgehog is completely ignored…and interestingly enough, so was Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I.

Is it just me, or does Black Knight feel like a direct-to-video sequel to Secret Rings? Maybe that’s why it wasn’t counted as a mainstream title, lol.
It just occurred to me that I’ve played all (and beaten most) of the games in this video. That’s almost sad?
I think maybe they omitted some games was that they were only doing one per year, i.e, Colors was the better received game of 2010?

Of course they wont enclude every single sonic game, just the important games, not to mention that sonic 4 isnt completed yet, they didnt release all the episodes

Sweet vid, Sega. Though I wish they replaced 06 and with All-Stars Racing. SO glad that 3D Blast, R, Black Knight, & especially Sonic 4 weren’t included.
I’m also happy that they’ve remembered Sonic CD (known it by now with the mixture of Chemical Plant & Stardust Speedway). I’ve never played CD sadly, but I’ve heard it’s one of Sonic’s best games.

Interesting enough, they’re definetely showing levels that were on the leaked as well as other levels…
Boys, call me crazy, but I think we’ll be seeing Marble Zone, Metropolis Zone, Palmtree Panic, Tidal Tempest, (whatever zone from CD that I can’t remember at the moment), Carnival Night Zone, Hydrocity Zone, Lava Reef Zone, Flying Battery Zone, Emerald Coast, (that second level in Sonic Heroes, can’t remember), and other levels as Downloadable Content. Or at least one of these on the list.

So much for de-listing poorly received Sonic games, ’06 is being considered as a hallmark! (which I completely support btw)

They’ve seriously gotta improve their sound editing skills. Not only did they make Classic Sonic grunt for the THIRD time, they’ve also put a Drummond clip from Heroes in there. Are they trolling us, or what?

yeah, that part really scared me.
At first I thought the logos were neat until it became obvious they were just reused assets from Sonic 4 and Generations GHZ instead of being from the actual games, like a red ring from Colors shows up in the CD logo.

the didn´t show sonic riders(yes i like sonic riders ;P) sad face but o well. sonic adventure is my fav sonic game because off its gameplay and music hope generations change my opinion

Anyone else notice that the gameplay of modern Sonic used for Sonic Generations is the Japanese build (check the Boost guage)?
Also. I’m so happy to see Sonic CD get recognition at last instead of, say Shadow the Hedgehog or the other spinoffs. Wierd to see Sonic and the Secret Rings (a spinoff) and not Sonic 4: Episode 1, though…..
Also, the Generations build they showed must be a newer build……the life icon screen is the classic Sonic head used in the Sonic Team logo…..except in a light-blue gradient color.
Regarding the omitted games, I think what they were going for was games that were important to Sonic’s history.
Sonic1-3, CD, Knuckles: Duh.
Sonic Adventure: First 3D game.
Sonic Adventure 2: 10th Anniversary; last Sonic game on a SEGA console.
Sonic Heroes: Return to roots; first multiplatform game.
Sonic 06: Something goes wrong; we need to rebuild!
Sonic & the Secret Rings: First step to recovery; first Wii Sonic.
Sonic Unleashed: Where we find Sonic’s current play style.
Sonic Colors: BEST GAME EVAR!

. . . . Perfect! I think that’s an excellent explanation of the different games released and featured in Sonic Generations. I find it interesting though. . . Of the leaked (and confirmed) levels, they didn’t list Stardust Speedway or show it in this video. Yet it’s clearly in the game. If the video is a “foreshadowing” as to what levels are going to be in the game, then they probably left out Stardust Speedway because it’s only going to be a boss battle re-vamped from the iconic race in Sonic CD. *breathes* Just an observation. Anyway. . . I’m really excited for Sonic Generations now ^^
The first game that celebrated Sonic’s year is Sonic Adventure 2, which features Shadow, then, Sonic Riders and Sonic the Hedgehog of 2006, which features the Babylon Rogues and Silver the Hedgehog, and now, a video game that features both Classic and Modern. The Classic one is cute with is round body and black eyes.
I like how the video is basically about Sonic Generations by listing all the titles invloved in Generations, including Generations itself. It even pretty much shows almost all the stages that are in the game at least. XD
And I like how when it reaches the games with Modern Sonic in it, Modern Sonic pops up and is all like “Yeah, I’m here too!” xD

The video was awesome! It reminded me of all the great (and not so great) times I’ve had playing Sonic games.
I came up with a Theory sorta. The 5 acts of Green Hill could be Green Hill act1&2, thant Green hill-Emerald Hill/act3 Palm Tree Panic/act 4-act5Under Green Hill/Marble zone.
Chemical Plant Zone going into Metropolis Zone/act 3 idk…….Just a guess of what they might do.
@Sideshowshayne nah i dought it they will have 5 acts but there will probs be 2 main acts and 3 missions. But i do love your idea and i would rather sega did that but i dought it :/
